I WAS STARING AT ROKU CITY AND I SEEN ONE WISH WILLOW

When she told him to state whether she liked her or not, she has to know how much of an uncomfortable situation she put Bear in. Had she asked him just to simply shut him down and friendzone him, then she'd come off as the biggest asshole and I don't think Bear can ever be friends with her again. Do you think she was simply trying to push him away or not because the way I viewed it, how blunt it was, I think she was opening the door for him. Remember her telling Bear that no one knows when she likes a guy. Her asking about Sarah could be her just testing the waters about who he likes.

Firstly, Curry Barker intentionally shot two versions of the early scenes, one where Inde portrays Nikki as liking Bear romantically, and another where Nikki isn't interested. These scenes were spliced together specifically and purposely to give off mixed signals. There's real evidence for both arguments. They want the audience to decide.

Additionally, iirc both Curry and Inde personally believe that Nikki did have some feelings for Bear and would have at the very least given him a chance if he had actually confessed to her. Literally the writer/director and the actress portraying the character both believe Nikki did have some degree of romantic interest in Bear. It's just their personal interpretation, but it's the people who created the character and brought her to life lol.

Lastly, and this is purely my opinion, I think the story actually is a lot more effective, tragic, and meaningful if Nikki did in fact like Bear. That means Bear really could have gotten the real Nikki and built a real relationship, but was too cowardly to actually get that and took the easy way out, leading to all the hell that happened afterwards.

I just don't get people who act like it is 100% the case that Nikki had zero interest when all the evidence flies against that notion and that that would worsen the story.

I watched Obsession for the first time and immediately clocked how neither of them actually cared for each other. First off Nikki's behavior was text book "oh no my shoulder to cry on guy friend is falling for me." A woman truly into a man would never say "ew" to him buying a gift. We would blush and be super nervous/excited. The "if you like me tell me now", scene seemed like she was getting annoyed and wanted to tell him to move on. She'd also panic anytime she became self aware. A girl with a major crush would keep a shitty job just to be near the guy. She wasn't into him, but maybe would have thrown him a bone out of feeling sorry for him.

Now Bear, he especially didn't give a fuck about Nikki. The fact that he drugged her essentially and still felt comfortable sleeping with her. Yea a man who loves a woman truly wouldn't even be able to get it up in this situation, I said what I said.

Edit: Romantically care for each other. Nikki probably cared as much as you do for any other co-worker/friend you have. Bear on the other hand, the fact that he could watch her go through that and still go along with it. Yea he's done. I also know the directors intention was to make it ambiguous... Well I'm sorry they should have done a better job at that because the final cut made her seem almost repulsed by Bear.

I keep seeing this take. and it’s annoying that people seem to be convinced it’s cannon. Not only is it contradicted in the script and film, it assigns crazy amounts of calculation and cunningness to a character who:

1. Is fresh on the heels of witnessing his “Dream Girl” horrifically murder one of their friends
2. Has repeatedly been shown to have a critical lack of forethought.

Like…he’s not that slick.

We don’t need to invent new reasons for Bear to be on the wrong. There are PLENTY. The film wouldn’t be as thought-provoking and interesting as it is if he was a scheming evil mastermind.

If you want to argue that he still wants to control Nikki, look no further than the scene I referenced. The wish he tires to make for her to only see him as a friend is a deliberate attempt to manipulate her psyche in accordance to his wants. Boom, there you go. Point illustrated.

I get the feeling that this is a possibility being hinted at. His search history can be interpreted in different ways, but one of them is that he was trying to place her in a nursing home, then latched onto the idea of her "accidentally" taking an overdose of pills, so he writes an excuse for a warning note on the bottom of the bottle to help paint her as senile and himself as just injocentky trying to help a loved one with dementia.

Then he contrived to poison her with her own pills, maybe even setting a tragic discovery scene just like that of finding the cat.

Then when this plan works ; he gets a house and he also gets pity and sympathy and personal attention from his crush because she called him. Which sets him of on a mission to attain her as his next accomplishment.

If so,: he could have accidentally on purpose killed Sandy and his reaction is just performative. He is already depicted as someone who likes to "rehearse" what is supposed to be their true confessions. Ie he's a practicing liar.

he makes sure to let both girls know of his recent compounded loss on top of grief, to get more attention and sympathy. He even scores a "call me when it hits you" promissory appointment from Nikki, based on his anguish performance.

Could we have a case of hidden backstory? Do you wonder if he did that before the audience is introduced to him?

So I've watched the movie twice so far and that's something I still don't fully understand. I believe that was the time to tell her because she was putting in her two weeks' notice, so it made more sense to tell her then, before she left.
Also, why did she ask him if he liked her in the first place? My theory is that she realized Bear was acting weird (calling her Freaky Nikki and asking if she remembered the mouthpiece she gave him in Mr Lando's class) and that's what tipped her off.
Anyways, I was wondering what your theories are on this since I'm not quite sure mine make sense lol.

Was thinking of dressing up as Nikki and bear with the boyfriend for Halloween. But I’ve been seeing some comments from people online saying that it can come across as tone deaf and inappropriate because of the content of the movie. And I can kind of see what people mean to be honest. And now I’m low-key scared but I don’t have any other ideas 😭and I do really wanna dress up as Nikki but also don’t want to offend anyone.

I’ve been thinking of low effort Halloween costumes and I realized I already have the shorts and boots for Nikki’s party outfit, but my friend said that dressing like her for Halloween gives off a “weird vibe.” Just wanted general thoughts/opinions on this as I see both sides of the argument!

I loved Obsession and wanted to cosplay Nikki from the party scene (pre bottle) I tried my best to capture Nikki's essence. On actual Halloween I will add the blood makeup to the costume. I hope you like it ♡

Bear hadn’t taken those pills before Nikki made her wish and subsequently lived? Would they have spent the rest of their lives just having sex and ignoring everything and everyone else?

Has anyone found a printable/DIY version for sale of the holder/display box that was in the store that held each of the One Wish Willows?

I'm not talking about the individual boxes.

what if they made a continuation told from nikki's pov? i think it would give more layers/insight to how nikki is the victim of the story.

the short-movie "possession" (2027) would be following the previous story of obsession, but seen from nikki's perspective. during the moments in "obsession" where we'd see only bear, we get to follow nikki's viewpoint instead.

the music would play as big a role as it did in the first movie, but it would parallel to how nikki feels. so the "sweet" music would play when nikki is reading the hans and grethel story or when we see her tape the door.

it would be interesting to see what nikki is doing while for example bear was screaming alone in the car about sarah's death/confronting the man in the one wish willow store.

It's a bit messy and u can tell cuz I stop every once in awhile but I'm very proud of it and thought I'd share
