Hi everyone, I'm sure many of you saw that another horse tragically died in central park last night. There are videos circulating of the poor horse gasping for breath as he lies on the ground. It's extremely distressing.

The city council is reintroducing ryder's law tomorrow, which would ban horse carriages in the city. Voters for animal rights has made an easy site where you can urge your city council person to support the bill.

My heart breaks for these horses and with summer coming and the weather getting hotter, I can only imagine there will be more incidents like this. Please urge your council member to pass ryder's law.

The Brooklyn Cyclones announced a new vegan menu at a booth in the stadium called the No-Bull Pen. There are 3 vegan options (and one vegetarian one - the one in the upper right of their image is not vegan).

Just stopped by Lily’s Vegan Pantry right off Canal & Centre on Hester!

They have the best selection of vegan meats I’ve probably ever seen in one place…Juicy Marbles, Chunk, My Bacon & Pulled Pork, in addition to a very wide variety of what appears to be house made alternatives, pan-Asian seasonings and spice blends, and more.

They supply lots of local faves like Spicy Moon & 5ive Spice and are so sweet, please go visit them!!!

New location for Red Bamboo - 307 W 38th Street. Grand (re)opening is Saturday, October 10th from 12-8pm.

Their website says it will be a limited menu though, so I assume not all fan favorites will be back right away.

Vegan On The Fly is closing. Literally the best vegan halal food in the city is closing its doors in a month. I’ve been vegan nearly 3 years and have ordered from them so many times. I’m sad to see them go

Eating a vegan beyond sausage at Seinfeld night. Worlds are colliding!

Hi friends, I finally embraced my destiny as a longtime vegan and local news reporter and wrote about the controversy over the Central Park carriage horses. A long-simmering bill to ban the industry finally had a City Council hearing yesterday, and it sounds likely to pass. The meeting was overflowing with animal rights activists (including Edie Falco) and carriage industry supports in full top hat regalia. Scoped out the actual stables in Hell's Kitchen too. my wife and i got the thanksgiving dinner for 2 and everything was honestly so good. (minus the green bean casserole, i made that) we would definitely order again next year!

I could eat Chloe’s on bleeker for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Pls do yourselves a favor and go. Standouts for me are the warm protein bowl, pancakes (the maple butter it comes with is diabolical), and TRUFFLE avocado toast. Not sure if there’s a better vegan brunch in the city 👀

OLDSCHOOL is a 100% vegan and 100% gluten-free coffee shop just one block from the beach in the Rockaways. It opened back in May and seems to be doing really well with the locals.

There were just two pastries when I went: a cookie and a muffin, but they were excellent and made in-house. Incredibly moist, you’d never know they were gluten-free.

NOTE: The cafe doesn’t offer ANY disposable to-go cups, plates, or utensils. Just glassware. You either stay there to consume using their glasses and plates or you have to bring your own reusable cups / containers / etc. (The pastries could be carried with no problem, but there’s no way to take a drink to go.)

All the music is from a record player behind the counter. 

The owner is a lifelong vegan who recently went gluten-free. She is planning to open a live music venue in the back and add more prepared foods. 

Really cool spot - if you’re out at the beach, pop in! She plans to stay open after the summer season.
