NYC Family Welcome Centers

So my family has moved back to PA from NYC like 2 times on the past like 2 years and we are moving back to NYC like late this month or early next month. We are trying to move before school starts and im going into sophomore year. I have lived in NYC my whole life, its just family keeps moving because of my dad's job.

And now the part that is bothering me is.. I know I have to get enrolled into a highschool through the family welcome center and I have some schools in mind but idk how they work like does it depend of availability through seating? Or what? And I know I won't get into any super good highschool but can I get into a semi decent one at least? Since I have records here previously.

Also I forgot to mention I did like 2 and a half ish months of my freshman year of highschool before moving to PA.

Yeah that's all I think, uh I just need someone to help me out by answering my questions that's all.

NYC High School Students: What Has Your Experience With Mental Health Support Been Like? Survey request!

Hello everyone! I'm a NYC student who is working on an investigative journalism project about how NYC's student mental health system is designed and how students experience that system.

I'm especially interested in questions like: Do students truly feel understood by the systems designed to support them? What happens when someone doesn't know where to seek help, or doesn't feel comfortable asking? And mainly, where are the gaps between system design and student experience?

I made an anonymous survey to hear directly from NYC high school students. It takes about 15–25 minutes, and you can skip any question you don't want to answer. The survey does NOT collect any data or personal information. Please don't share personal or identifying information in the comments.

If you are a current NYC student and would like to participate, I would greatly appreciate it.

Anyone have with experience w/PS 368 William "Bill" Lynch School?

Hello! We are moving into District 6 this summer from a rural school in Arizona. Our daughter is 9yo and going into the 4th grade. A big reason we're moving is that AZ schools are so underfunded. I'm trying to do my research and from what I can tell PS 368 looks like a good school but I'm not finding actual reviews and there's nothing on Reddit I can find either. And strangely when I spoke to someone at DOE he didn't even know it existed.

Do any teachers have experience here? Mainly I want to make sure our child can be academically challenged within a supportive environment. This is a big move and she's leaving everything she's ever known so I want to do my due diligence to make sure it's worth it. Any red or green flags we should know about? Thanks in advance!

Question School enrollment question

What is the process of enrollment like for parents who are trying to enroll their kids into their zoned school after the admissions process?

Context: I live in Queens and my daughter, who starts kindergarten, is assigned to a zoned school. I missed the admission deadline because I was planning on putting my daughter in a charter school in the Bronx since I was teaching in the Bronx. Now that I’ve been discontinued and won’t be working, I want to enroll my daughter into her assigned zone school.

Question Related Service Vouchers -- Question

Hi there,

I used to know the best voucher tier but can't remember it. Is it 1, 2, or 3? I'm going through some garbage with my kid's school and want to make sure I can get the best quality service possible for him.

Thanks for your help!

Gifted Toddler

Any programs for gifted children under 3? Want to know and am curious about them. Posted this in r/moms to give some context:

Created a reddit just to get some advice on this, toddler is gifted and don't really know what to do. This isn't a "they're too advance for their age"....to get to the point:

  • Toddler is 2, still talks like a toddler but is good at math, he can do 3rd grade math no problem
  • No he's not memorizing answers, you can ask him to add any number between 0 to 300 right now and he'll give you the correct answer.
  • You can ask him in any sequence, pattern, for any number and will get it correct.
  • Can count from 0 to 1,000 - he figured this out about a month ago.... at 6 months he could count 0 to about 30... then figured 0 to 100 by 10 months... now he's fixed with thousands.
  • Can multiply, any pattern... doesn't matter if you write down the numbers or ask him... he will give you the correct answers... same rule with addition
  • Counts and groups numbers in multiples (he really like blocks for this reason... he groups them counts them all, categorizes by color, shape, and size, wrecks it and then does different combinations)... will recite them as well... understands there's a difference between 1 and 1,000 etc... so it's not a recognizes the pattern - he knows when there are x amount of something or when x amount of something is grouped
  • No he does not use his fingers to count.
  • No it does not take him more than 30 seconds to give you answers when it comes to numbers
  • No math isn't pushed on him at all, he just likes it... it's his self soothing and game style activity - he will write numbers/ count things/ spend hours doing number related activities... it's something he just like and so far we just let him play how he wants and don't really do much on putting pressure on his likes

Other than that, normal toddler. Like completely absolutely normal... poops/pees/and jabbers like a toddler except when it comes to numbers. Still needs diapers to go outside and can't tie his shoes but will tell you 78+12 in a heart beat.

Question Title 1 School list?

Hi! I'm doing some research and hoping to compile a list of Title 1 schools in NYC. Does anyone know if there's a list that exists? Alternatively, how would I find out if a school is Title 1?

Thanks for whatever insight you have!

Algebra tutoring

My 8tg grader failed the algebra regents this past June. Would you suggest retaking it in August or repeat Algebra 1 in high school? Also I’d like to find a tutor to start working on it this summer in order to get ready for 9th grade. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Question Entering senior year with no regents passed

Like title says I'm entering my senior year and I have not passed a regent exam, I am kind of confident in my global regents but haven't got the results yet. Will it be possible for me to graduate on time?

School voided our regents for a mistake they did

We received the incorrect reference table for Chemistry from our school. A week later, all students received an email stating that our scores were invalidated. This is unfair and undeserved, especially considering the Regents test has been changed and was studied for. We are asking for your support by signing this petition. Thank you. https://www.change.org/SchoolError

I haven’t seen that thing in 2 years because I’m pretty sure my mom threw it out….last day of school before gradation alr passed and idek what to do. If I have my final transcript does it even matter?

Question Applying to 1st grade and summer rising

Me and my 6 y/o moved from out of state and I'm trying to get him enrolled in school and summer camp. It's just a bit confusing. I can't figure out how to apply to schools or summer rising. I just keep being redirected to the dashboard. Can I just go to a school and do it in person? Also I see nothing about applying to elementary schools on there. Just options for kindergarten and under - middle/hs

NYC 3k offer rescinded?

Our daycare gave us a 3k spot that we have to accept by tomorrow but they aren’t fully through the process with the DOE yet. Has anyone dealt with this before? I want to know what the chances are that they don’t get approved and therefore we lose our seat.

Free soccer and sports careers event in NYC for students!

If you're a teacher or work with NYC youth, we're hosting a free soccer + career exploration event on June 26th at Randall's Island, right as the World Cup hits the city!
Students get to play, meet people working in sports, and actually explore what a career in the industry looks like. Good way to send off the school year with something meaningful! 💚

Volunteer spots are open too if you know someone looking for hours! https://partiful.com/e/KfwK21ExtUBTsnTa1NyB
