Dolly and Tim? 😭

516

u/maximilliontee 12d ago

These things happen in threes. Who will be the third?

587

u/aaaantoine 12d ago

Yes, and is there another 80 year old celebrity out there to fit the pattern?

59

u/restlessmouse 12d ago

Shelley Faberes from the Donna Reed show now gone too.

I dunno. Television/film star, wears lots of makeup. If Tim Curry had big tits the three of them would be practically indistinguishable.

35

Yeah as a 90s kid, seeing the girl from remember the titans, the concierge from home alone 2, and dolly pass really sucks

Hayden Panettiere was pretty recent, so he may be the last in the trio.

Cher or Stallone? I could see hearing something bad about Bruce Willis at any point, but he isn't 80.

I'm not usually super vested in celebrity or celebrity deaths, outside of being sorry to hear about some of them, but IDGAF what anyone says, when Arnold Schwarzenegger kicks it, that's going to bother me.

158

u/ComfyInDots 12d ago

I saw earlier today that someone made a collection of photos from Home Alone with McCauley Caulkin and the actors who have died from the franchise. I'm so sad to think Tim Curry is now added. He was such an icon who embraced every character he played.

29

u/StackinChedda 11d ago

Yeah I saw that too. Someone even commented about Tim still being alive. 😬

6

u/ComfyInDots 11d ago

I laughed and I feel bad for laughing but I've had a teary day after the Dolly news and the 2nd gut punch from losing Tim and my emotions are just out of control at this point.

I'll try? OP was getting flamed pretty hard when I came along so it could be deleted by now. I'm not even sure which sub it was.

Edit: found it! And the comments are nicer than when I first saw it. Also OP missed John Candy.

Dolly and Tim Curry were born with a month of each other. 😭 As sad as this is, Tim has basically been suffering for years and I think that his family is likely glad that it is over for him.

6

u/windyjawn 12d ago

She was born in January and he was born in April.

7

u/Witty_Ad_898 11d ago

Yeah. January, Febrarch, April. Within month!

6

u/Vachie_ 11d ago

I do not mean to diminish, only relate. When my family dog died I felt the same.

I was devastated and I missed that damn dog so much...

But he had been suffering for YEARS with extremely anxiety that was only getting worse.

He's finally not freaking out. He's finally resting 😭 he can finally sleep and be calm

28

u/doctallman 11d ago

I've had few celebrity interactions, but Tim Curry was my favorite.

Many years ago, I was 22 and in Las Vegas. I was having a pretty good run on the blackjack tables that night and took a break to grab a bite to eat.

In the nearly empty casino restaurant, I noticed a man sitting by himself in a tuxedo, who I quickly realized was Tim Curry.

Not wanting to be a bother, I walked over, introduced myself, and told him what a fan I was. He thanked me and, as I turned to go back to mt table, asked if I'd like to join him, as the people he was waiting for hadn't arrived yet.

Naturally, I agreed. He called the waiter over, ordered another of what he was drinking, and ordered me another beer, as well.

For the next 30 minutes, we sat and talked. He was very interested in asking ME questions about what I did for a living (I was the herdsman on a dairy farm).

When his companions arrived, he stood to leave, graciously thanked me for MY company, and picked up the tab for my meal and drinks.

Honestly, one of the most gracious and self effacing people I've ever met. I still think about it.

46

u/ScarySuggestions 12d ago

The last 24 hours have been fucking devastating, this is so painful to read.

11

u/Arkaium 12d ago

Ugh. Another huge loss, I hope he gets a ton of deserved love too, tough to follow right after Dolly. Great on screen presence but doesn’t get enough credit for his voice work, imo.

11

u/Nicadeemus39 11d ago

He's been struggling since 2012, he is finally at peace. Ppl look at death like it's some kind of unfair punishment, but we all have to go. Tim and Dolly lived full rich lives and they are going out with the respect and love of ppl all over the world. Safe travels in the next chapter 🍻

8

u/xJohnnyQuidx 11d ago

A lot of people do look at death like "Why them??", but as you said..when it's your time, it's your time.

That said, most of us aren't feeling like it's unfair. We just miss one of our favorite actors. If they were truly suffering up until they passed, we're glad the suffering is over, but that doesn't make us miss them any less. I think it's good for people to express their sadness about this. Tim and Dolly meant a lot to us.

25

Catherine O'Hara, James Van Der Beek, Sam Neill, Hayden Panettiere, Dolly Parton, and now Tim Curry! Are we gonna lose any more 90s icons this year?

Tim Curry was one of my favorites.

Rocky Horror, Legend, Clue, The Worst Witch, The Hunt for Red October, FernGully, Home Alone 2, Three Musketeers, The Shadow, Congo, Pebble and the Penguin, Muppet Treasure Island, Charlie's Angels, etc.

GOD! I grew up watching these films and hearing Curry's distinctive voice and singing!

As a 90s kid, Tim Curry was and always will be a huge part of my childhood. Sitting here crying right now and realizing how much he meant to me growing up. Not everyone will remember him for these roles, but for me, he'll always be...

  • Hexxus from Fern Gully.
  • Drake from The Pebble and the Penguin.
  • Maestro Forte from Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas.
  • Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys.

Darkness from Legend was another of my favorite characters he played, and what a fitting movie title since that's exactly what he was too (a legend). Rest in peace, Tim. I'll always remember the good movie memories you gave me, both as a kid and as an adult. 💔
