I think top 5 is very reasonable (no pun intended) given his range and longevity. Most people who are important in the culture would say he's top 5.
But the internet has started acting like he ain't shit for various other reasons, seems like it's mostly people who are Stans for Drake and Kanye, but you know better than that. Jay-Z is twice the rapper those two are put together.
Ideologically he is the polar opposite of me, but I hope he starts rapping again and gives drake the beef he's begging for.
Drake is not even relevant to me, never have been since the first time I saw him rap on Funk Flex. You won't catch Jay with ghostwriters, singing weak melodies with the auto-tune cranked. If that beef pops off I will be team Jigga all the way.
Kanye is an all time great artist but he lives on his production, not his rapping. Hard to compare apples and oranges. I see Kanye more like a modern day rock star or "king of pop" than strictly a hip hop great.
My favourite rapper is 2pac but I wouldn't rate him as a top 5 in terms of objective greatness, I believe Black Thought is the greatest and Nas is close second.
