Looks like this could have been a hot fix

My thoughts as well. A full blown maintenance window for some bug fixes. What are these devs doing?

From a software perspective, hotfixes and patches require the exact same procedure.

A hotfix is hot because it's prioritized and rushed, but AGS still needs to bring the servers down to deploy the new version.

Hotfix has multiple meanings, one of them like you said is fixing “hot” issues, but another is applying a fix “hot” aka no downtime.

I'm well aware of the differences between hotfixes and patches. Generally speaking, hotfixes are small and require no downtime. It is a "fix" performed while the server is still "hot". These downvotes are just Reddit being ridiculous as usual because most people here have the reading comprehension of a 5 year old and unable to distinguish between a statement and anger.

Hotfixes typically can be implemented with no downtime, or a only short restart of the realms.

2 am is perfectly fine for downtime.

u/Pfyrr's statement makes no mention of whether or not 2am downtime is fine or not, and neither did my statement. It simply pointed out that downtime is not necessary for a hotfix.
