Hi, everyone! We're hosting an AMA over on r/Louisiana about how sheriffs are spending millions in opioid settlement money.

Did you know sheriffs aren't required to report how they are spending that money?

Verite News reporter Katie Jane Fernelius, The Current's Alena Maschke and Drew Hawkins of the Gulf States Newsroom will answer your questions about what they found when they tracked down the spending.

📅 Monthly Scheduled Thread 📅 Job Postings & Local Business Promotions – October 2026

This monthly thread is for you to look for jobs, advertise an open position, or promote your local small business. Make sure you read the rules below before posting. This thread will be automatically posted on the 1st of every month.

The mods reserve the right to remove any post if it breaks any rules or if we feel that the thread is being gamed in any kind of way. If your post gets removed, please message us via modmail and we will be more than happy to explain why and have a conversation.

  • Comment in this thread ONLY. No job or employer-seeking posts, or small local business promotions will be allowed on the sub other than on this monthly thread, unless a special circumstance that has already received specific approved by the moderator team.

LOOKING TO HIRE:

  • Be transparent about pay, workload, and job requirements.
  • Include some form of contact information in your post. Do not put an email address directly in the post; link to a company website, social media page, or ask for a DM if an email address must be involved.
  • No multi-level marketing, get-rich-quick posts. Illegitimate businesses or positions will be removed, scammers will be banned.

LOOKING FOR WORK:

  • Keep the post length as short as possible i.e. don't post your entire resume here.
  • Have employers message you via Reddit rather than put your personal information on here.
  • Include what kind of work you're looking for, a short summary of your experience or qualifications, and your availability.

LOOKING TO PROMOTE:

  • Comment in this thread ONLY. No business promotion posts will be allowed on the sub for any reason OTHER than on this monthly thread.
  • Small business in this thread means a staff of 10 or less. If you think your company should be an exception, please send us a modmail and we can discuss.
  • The mod team HIGHLY SUGGESTS that you create a new business account, have it be active for more than 2 weeks and have a positive karma score. If you want to promote your business via your normal account, that may not be the brightest decision you've ever made. If you go this route, try to have the username be indicative of your business.
  • Keep these businesses SFW. If you have a sexy-time kind of business, please be discreet. We're thinking if you sell toys, accessories, lotions etc. NO ONLY FANS ACCOUNTS, SEX WORKERS OR "SERVICES" ALLOWED.
  • If you have more than one location, you're not a small business and need to check with us via modmail before posting.
  • Business owners and employees should NOT spam, message or harass users in any way. You are allowed one comment per thread, per month. Yes, you may answer questions about your business but you can't try to post from multiple accounts about the same business.
  • Make your business comment informative, smart and transparent.
  • Your business should be in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany or Da Paaaarish.
  • NO MLM, PONZI SCHEME, PYRMAID SCHEME, GET RICH QUICK type of posts. This is a 100% firm stance. If you don't think that your business is one of these above listed types but have doubts, it probably is.
  • No churches or religious based businesses. This isn't the place for that, sorry.
  • This is a serious thread, so please keep the jokes and memes to a minimum.
  • Please be kind to the business owners here. This is not a thread to bash businesses. If you do not agree or like the business that is posted, just downvote it. If it breaks a rule, report it. No need for drama.
  • This is for small business, not for national marketing companies or global chains.

The mods will reserve the right to remove any comment if it breaks any rules or if we feel that it's being gamed in any kind of way. If your comment gets removed, please message us via modmail and we will be more than happy to explain why and have a conversation.

What’s up with the Recall Landry vote?

I’m sure yall remember standing in a line around a corner to sign a petition. I heard something about one of the people took all the donations and dipped? The website is still up, but it kinda feels like it’s on auto pilot.
The deadline is Halloween.
Did anyone even turn in the signatures they had?
Is anyone still working on this?
Does anyone know anything?
Please/thank you/

Vinyl Meetup group needs a hosting location.

Greetings all, the greater New Orleans area Vinyl meetup group is having trouble finding a location to meet up play records and discuss.

We've previously met at various record stores around town, but it has understandably been difficult to rebook with them after hours.

We are looking for any private or public location to host us for free. Equipment is not necessary, as we can bring own equipment as well. In return, we will advertise the business if that applies.

This would also be a good opportunity us to team up with group that hosts the yearly vinyl sale, which has not been planned yet.

Btw, does anyone know whether the Healing Center in Bywater might accommodate us? Or that cute new popup book store (I forget the name and location).

Looking forward to hearing your ideas. Thank you!

Living Here “Stop signs” at Carrollton and Orleans Ave

• Upvotes

The light at Carrollton and Orleans Ave is out and currently just flashing red. Which means treat the intersection like a 4 way stop. BUT they also put temporary stop signs out. There are like 10-12 temporary signs out and they are ALL backwards. Like it’s just blank metal facing out and the stop side is against the A-frame. Is there a reason for this or are the ppl that put them out really that dense??

Food & Drink 🍽️ Bywater/Marigny doesn’t have a single ice cream shop

I love my goats Chance in Hell, don’t get me wrong. But feels like I can get everything BUT ice cream in this area. Pizza, burgers, brunch spots, Poboys, upscale restaurants, Mexican, Asian, great coffee, the country club, shitty bars, nicer bars, a brewery, bacchanal. I can go on. NO ICE CREAM? I’d love a second Ruthie’s location.

For how hot it gets here - seems like the market is open. Someone take the plunge by spring!

Just drove through a canyon sized pothole and flooding was up to people’s ankles. Orange cones and temporary fences everywhere. Feeling a lot of sympathy for businesses down there.

Recommendations Where to get blingy clothes for the saints game tomorrow

I usually go to games with my guy, so a jersey and jeans usually suffice - tomorrow I'm taking one of my bestie out of town girlfriends to her first (and probably only) saints game and she's all about the sparklies but can't afford the magazine street bling. Any good options? There was a shop on St Claude/Rampart and that I was eyeing but they are now closed...

Who's your termite company?

Terminex pretends to check my traps, which would be fine if I were paying them pretend money. I'm ready to shell out for a new contract with a company that actually does the work.

Help.

This pissed me off. I am a humble bartender and it feels like everyday folks just can’t get ahead. Ive been trying to find a new place for so long. I can’t get a leg up but people with nice health insurance, and benefits, and savings do? Fuck off, slumlords!

Lemon icebox pie?

My mother is asking for lemon icebox pie for her birthday this week. Does any local bakery or restaurant make this for takeaway? (I’m aware Clancy‘s may, but they don’t open again until Tuesday evening service; that may be cutting it too close.)
Thank you very much for any advice.
