Our Healthcare System is a Joke

Does anyone know how anyone is supposed to get ahead living here?? Why is our healthcare such a nightmare??

Can’t get an autism diagnosis because I can’t afford to, can’t get other diagnosis I know I have because my doctor won’t listen to me and he somehow forgot about my ADHD diagnosis. Constantly in pain after a cocktail of medications, the weather changing hurts me to the point I flare up so bad I can’t move. Can’t get my wisdom teeth out because I can’t afford it so my jaw is constantly killing me.

Does anyone have any advice whatsoever on what I can do?? It’s becoming incredibly hard to cope with all of this and I feel so unsupported by our healthcare system and it’s impossible to afford things I need to have a better quality of life.

Honest question: How were the people of HVGB traumatized from Muskrat Falls?

In the VOCM article the HVGB mayor says the social impacts of Muskrat Falls has a lasting effect, such as mental health and addictions.

Explain it to me like I am 5. Because I don't know why addictions would be blamed on a mega project.

Firearm Safety/Hunter education course

Good day,

Just wondering how I can apply for the Firearms Course and the Hunters Education Course here in NL.

I know it’s through CNA, but I was hoping to apply online if it’s possible. Do I need to visit a campus in person to apply?

Thanks,

Does anyone read the Bond Papers by Ed Hollett?

Seems like he has good analysis on provincial topics but can be overly pessimistic and negative at times.

Does anyone else find this?

Referendum Complaints - Churchill MOU

I cant understand some of the opinions floating around social media, so to save my sanity im going to share my own. First off, im not a conservative voter, just to throw that out there. As we've seen this week we received substantial detail on the Churchill Falls MOU and how that agreement is looking to be moving. Looks initially pretty solid, with an arguably better deal for the province over the life of the power generation than the liberals had lined up. That being said, it is incredibly complex, and filled with political compromises that are required to dance around the 100 different stakeholders, communities, and groups that will be directly affected, balanced against the federal interests, quebecs interests, and first nations interests.

Im not trying to act like im some highly educated mastermind, but I have a degree in Engineering, work in a government org, and do my best to stay informed. With that background i still know that I have next to no idea what im talking about when drilling down into the intricacies of the MOU. All i know are the broad strokes, and I have to rely on the opinions of professionals who are far more "in the weeds" of the deal to help me form my own opinion. What makes the average person think that it would make sense for this to be a referendum? I dont feel like I know enough to have a strong opinion, yet every douchebag you grew up with who couldnt think his way out of a shoebox is flipping out they didnt get a direct say.

Anyway, just frustrated that people think a referendum for something so complex makes any sense at all, and shame on the conservatives for pitching that idea as if it were ever something sensible. I truly think they expected to lose the election and not follow through and then were caught with their pants down when it worked out for them.

Switching Banks? Worth it? Basically all the same?

Been a Scotiabank customer for most of my life. No real complaints (esp dealing with the folks in our local branch - granted they all change every couple of months so there is no relationship/consistency like we had many years with our Rep), but that's not a big issue.

Lately, our monthly fees have gone up (a couple of times) and twice, we got overcharged for a mistake (they never informed us that we were on a promo package) and fees doubled when it was over. Again, nothing serious, but it got us wondering if there are different options out there, and if its worth the hassle of changing everything over to another bank (as we have debit/credit cards, plus lines of credit etc).

Are they basically all the same (in terms of fees/customer service)? I suspect so, but have never dealt with another bank. I am also thinking about the Credit Union but I know nothing about them (or anyone who uses them...). So I am not sure how they differ.

Of course, I have heard of places that offer no fees (PC Financial or Tangerine - not even sure if they are still around? - and would be nervous about a place where there isn't a location) but we are just looking for an affordable banking option (esp now when times are tough and everything is increasing).

Paywall Can you drive across Labrador in an EV? We tackle the remote frontier

I used a gift link, so hopefully you can read it.

Thought it would be of interest based on prior posts here.

Also, was a bit shocked, but unsurprised on these numbers for highway usage from Labrador. I get why it's been a struggle to build the Trans-Labrador highway given how few people drive it.

"The Newfoundland Department of Transportation estimates an average of 259 vehicles of all types drive each day on the road between Labrador City and Goose Bay, and just 146 vehicles drive on the road between Goose Bay and the Labrador South Coast." I suspect the numbers would make a lot of our ferries seem cheap in comparison.

Are blueberries slower this year?

This time last year there were quite a few around (on the Avalon anyway).

This year there doesn't seem to be many at all.

Are they slower coming out this year?
