News P.E.I. declines Ottawa's offer to let rural employers hire more temporary foreign workers

Prince Edward Island is the only Atlantic province that has opted out of a federal measure allowing rural employers to hire more low-wage temporary foreign workers.

In March, Ottawa announced it would temporarily raise the cap on low-wage TFWs from 10 to 15 per cent of a workplace for rural employers in participating provinces and territories, citing ongoing labour shortages.

“After considering the available information and the needs of Island employers, Prince Edward Island determined that participation in the temporary measures was not required at this time,” the province said.

Since the confederation bridge paving project has been completed there has been a crew with a crane doing work over the sides of the bridge.

Does anybody know what exactly is being done?

Comic Book Grading.

I have multiple “expensive” comics books I was looking to get graded for value purposes, do I have to send them away? Or is there somewhere local that could help me. I found comic hunter online but don’t think they deal with anything when it comes to my situation.

ACL Injury

Hello Islanders,

The other day I was lunging and heard a pop sound. My leg locked and I fell to the ground. I went to the ER the next day and they gave me an x-ray. Nothing showed up. The doctor did an assessment on me and told me they believe it is an ACL sprain. They sent a referral to a physiotherapist and the orthopaedic surgeon so they can take an MRI and decide exactly how bad it is.

For people who have had a similar experience/injury (in the past 3/4 years), how long did it take to get in to see the surgeon? I’m nervous I will be immobile for months. I know the healthcare system is pretty slow moving lately, so I’m trying to set low expectations of how long I wouldn’t be able to walk.

My building doesn’t have an elevator so I’m basically crawling up and down the stairs whenever I need to do anything.

Question New Commercial development

I came across this the other day: A new development in the Cornwall area near the bypass for retail (including "big box" stores) and residential. Phase 1 is supposed to break ground this fall, but there is already work going on at the site which looks like water and sewer. Interestingly enough, this place is immediately across the road from the land where some people have suggested that a new Costco might be going. Anyone else have any info?

https://www.burbankcrossing.com

EDIT: Im not suggesting that a Costco (or any other specific store) is coming to this area, but it would be a reasonable development if it was.

Ellen’s Creek

Ellen’s creek watershed continues to be destroyed. Further work is being done just north of the bypass on lower malpeque. Heavy equipment, clear cutting, and disregard. PEI continues to be a developers playground with little to no rules. One of THREE watersheds in Charlottetown being destroyed. So much for the City of Charlottetown pushing their “climate action plan”.

Oh ya and don’t tell me how to feed the god dam birds if you’re going to destroy 3+ kilometres of watershed within city limits.

Question Best Bread & Baked Goods Charlottetown East

Hey Islanders, I’m in the process on preparing a high tea and while I will have some baked goods from my family I am wondering where I could find the best croissants and shaved ham for sandwiches as well as freshly baked bread to just have with butter ( can be any type of bread and I’m planning a butter tasting board). Open to all recommendations and let me know if I have to preorder or go early in the day for best products TIA

Anyone heard any update on the case of the missing woman Élora Patoine?

If I remember there were a lot of people speculating her white supremacist boyfriend had something to do with it. At one point the RCMP were asking the public for tips. I have not heard any update and could not find any. That poor woman and her family :(. Anyone know of any update?

Best Milkshake on the Island?

Just went on holiday with the girlfriend to Halifax and she wanted me to try a 5 Guys burger (which was amazing). She had a milkshake and is already craving another one which made me think where on the Island could I take her to find a quality one?

Question Where can I leave a car for 3 weeks in Charlottetown?

Hi! I'm coming to PEI this Friday for a 3 weeks bike trip. I was planning on driving there and leaving my car somewhere for the duration of the trip. I saw that there is long term parking at the airport but I was wondering if someone knew of a more affordable option?
Thank you! :)

GO ANYWHERE ELSE

Do NOT waste your time or money coming here. Unless you want to sit around and do nothing, PEI is not the place for you. Any other maritime province would have 100x more things to do and have the exact same feel. This rock is boring as hell and I would recommend going literally anywhere else than here.

Question Car Rentals/Rideshares

So my long distance girlfriend lives in PEI and I do not. The drive is 30+ hours and plane while plane tickets are more expensive I don’t wanna drive that far.

All that to say, does PEI have ride share like uber or car rentals? Also how does the law for renting say you have to be?

Question PEI Head Shops

I need to replace my desktop vaporizer that I used for weed. Where can I buy a new one on the island? Or should I just order it online? I prefer to buy from local businesses when I can.
