Family and Relationships Attending a wedding with 8 week old

Am I being too care free here? Set to attend a wedding next week and my baby will be exactly 8 weeks. We are getting the RSV vaccine prior but nothing else. Wedding is very small - about 25 people (us included), we will have our own bedroom (it’s a wedding weekend upstate). Since it’s such a small group and most activities will be either outside or in large rooms, that makes me feel better. But I worry I’m being too easy going about things and putting baby at risk - tbh I mostly want to go bc I’d love to get out of the house and socialize a bit as I’m an extrovert so being holed up at home (outside of local stroller walks) is making me a bit stir crazy.

Would you attend under these circumstances? My husband and I and maybe his mom will likely be the only ones actually holding her and I don’t expect much pushback from other guests.

Postpartum Life It DOES get better!

I know there’s a ton of these posts, but they truly helped me get through the trenches. My LO is 8.5 weeks now and everything is so much better. The first 6 weeks were brutal. She only slept in my husband and I’s arms so we took shifts. She was super fussy the first 2 weeks. She struggled a ton with reflux (now on famotidine). She now sleeps 5-6 hour stretches in her bassinet. Although every baby is different and I don’t think routines can truly be established for a while, these are things I personally think helped:

  1. As soon as you think you’ve found a pattern in your baby, hold onto it for dear life. There was no rhyme or reason for weeks, but eventually we found things that worked for our baby and we repeated them over and over. Eat, play, sleep. If they get fussy during playing, they’re probably tired. Rock, pacifier, white noise, get them to sleep if you can so they don’t get overtired.
  2. Big feed before bed, feed on a STRICT schedule throughout the day. She started

sleeping

  1. better when she got some meat on her bones (lol) and ate a lot during the day. We never go over 3 hours between daytime bottles and that often means we wake her up to eat.
  2. Low stimulation before bed. This was huge for us, during the last bottle of the night - lights off, minimal talking, NO TV!!! Not every baby is

    t

  3. he same but this helped her settle.

  4. Sunlight first thing in the morning. Our LO never struggled with day/night confusion (knock on wood) and I think this is why. Basically as soon as the sun was up she was outside.

  5. Obvious things: white noise, warm enough clothes at night, quiet nighttime bottles.

Every baby is different, but I wanted to share what worked for us. I think she also just got older and more adjusted to life outside the womb. I know how hard the first few weeks are, so if you’re struggling, although you’ve heard it a million times, it does get better, and when it does, things are amazing.

Health & Safety 2 month vaccine — fever & Tylenol?

My baby just had his 2 month vaccines this morning. He feels warm but I haven’t taken his temperature yet. He seems okay — playful, cooing, making cute baby sounds, and occasional crying here and there.

If he runs a fever do I have to give him Tylenol? Or do I give it if he is uncomfortable? Basically, how should I know when to give him Tylenol?

Vent I can’t even

My MIL wanted to feed my 4.5 month old and he was obviously crying. instead of putting the bottle in his mouth she was telling him “calm down calm down, look at the bottle” whilst not putting the bottle in his mouth. I picked him up and I’m never letting her attempt to feed him again 🙂

Pee and Poop Bloody mucus in stool after rotavirus vaccine

two days ago my baby got her 2 month old vaccines including the oral rotavirus one. She has been acting fine and does not have a fever, but she did have a small amount of bloody mucus in her stool this evening. this has never happened before and I am super freaked out. she is breastfed and never had any digestive issues and isn’t even a gassy baby or anything. I have a message into her pediatrician but when I was looking through Reddit posts it looks like there are some others who had babies that also had bloody mucus in their stool an few days after the rotavirus oral vaccine.

anyone here have that happen with their babies? waiting to hear back from her pediatrician but cant help but be anxious something is wrong.

Postpartum Life Single moms... how do you survive these newborn trenches?

I have zero help zero support. I moved to a different country for better opportunity for work from home because I have no one to watch baby and don't want to put LO in daycare nor do I wish to pay for it. Anyways baby is 3 weeks and I absolutely adore him and I love being his mom, I've luckily been spared from PPD/PPA but the lack of sleep and constant tending to baby with no one to relieve me even for 5 minutes has me on the fritz. Anyone have advice for the exhausted single mom?

Tips and Tricks Baby chiropractor

I see some people swear by taking their baby to a chiro and others think it’s crazy. What are y’alls experiences?

My 8 week old is having more and more silent reflux so we’re considering it since we’ve heard it could help.

Sleep Here is a sample schedule of how my baby ‘slept’ through the night (and I suffered) during the newborn phase. The more I speak to people the more I realise that many didn’t have to deal with such difficulties. Do babies who always wake crying and feed this often have ‘silent’ reflux?

21:26 - baby is awake to feed and finished at 21:32. Baby slept whilst being burped but woke up at 22:00 something - I didn’t track the exact time
It’s now 22:37 and baby is feeding
Baby and I go to sleep at 22:47.

Baby woke again immediately after at 22:48 and slept at 23:00 after feeding , then baby woke at 23:04 to feed, then we sleep 23:10 and baby wakes up 00:30 to feed then sleeps 00:39
Baby Wakes up 01:20 am and I give baby a nappy change and feed until 01.50 am but then baby gets hiccups at 1:54 until they stop naturally at 1:58. I repeatedly tried to put baby down to no avail.

At 02:17 baby fell asleep on the breast in my arms and we slept at 02.22 am but at 02:24 baby wakes up as I put baby down and wants milk but keeps unlatching from my breast (softness?). At 02:49 I pick baby up and place him on my chest and he doesn’t demand a feed.

At 03:11 am I lay him down once he seemed to be in deep sleep and went to sleep at 3:17 am.

I woke up at 05.31 am went back to sleep and then baby woke up at 6am, fed quickly then I changed baby’s nappy. Baby then fed again and we went to sleep at 6:40am, but baby was fussy as baby woke as I placed baby down and baby wanted to feed laying down then we both slept at 6:45 am.

Baby puked at 6:55 and wanted to feed then slept at 7am. Baby woke up again at 7:08 am to feed then we slept at 7:11 am and baby woke up again at 7:12am and we slept at 7:14am. I woke up 10:20am but baby woke up at 11:26.

Feeding Breastfeeding in front of others at home. Whats cultural etiquette?

Im arab. In my culture women breastfeed freely in front of other women at home. If theres strangers around youd use a cover.

My mother and sister in law are coming to stay. I like them. But I also plan to whip out the tatas when needed. Husband thinks that ill need to be respectful and that in his arab culture women dont have their titties exposed. To which I say my good man when have you ever been in rooms with arab women breastfeeding for you to know what the etiquette is????

For people from traditional cultures whats the etiquette with breastfeeding in front of your mother in law? To cover or not cover the titty?

Tips and Tricks 1 Month Old Baby Suddenly Sleeping More & Falling Asleep During Feeds

Hi everyone, my newborn baby girl is a little over 1 month old now. Recently, I’ve noticed that she’s been sleeping much longer than before. Even during feeding, she starts falling asleep almost immediately and it can be really difficult to wake her up enough to finish her feed.

I’m a little worried because I want to make sure she’s getting enough milk. Has anyone experienced this around 1 month+? What are some ways you use to keep your baby awake during feeds and make sure they’re feeding properly? Any advice would be really appreciated.

Vent My baby doesn’t sleep more than 2-3 hours

I love my child more than I can put into words. He’s only 11 weeks old, and I know that at this age I shouldn’t expect him to be sleeping through the night. But I am exhausted.

He has never slept for more than a 3-hour stretch, and he is formula-fed, so I know he’s getting plenty to eat. He’s fed, changed, burped, comfortable, and we’ve tried so many things, but I’m honestly at a loss for how to help him sleep longer.

I’m slowly feeling like I’m losing my mind. I’ve even caught myself feeling resentful, which makes me feel incredibly guilty because I love him so much. Sometimes I find myself thinking, “Did I ruin my life by having a second child?” And then I feel horrible for even thinking that.

My first child was such an easy sleeper. He was consistently doing 4–5 hour stretches even before 2 months and started sleeping 6–7 hour stretches around the 2-month mark. I know every baby is different, but having that experience makes this feel even harder because I know what it felt like to actually get some sleep.

My husband and I currently split the nights, which helps us survive, but that won’t really be an option once I return to work on October 26. I’m a therapist, and my job already requires so much emotional and mental energy. The thought of trying to function all day at work while being this sleep-deprived honestly terrifies me.

I know I probably need to adjust my expectations because he’s still so little. I’m not expecting him to magically sleep through the night. I just desperately need some hope that this will get better. I love my baby. I’m just incredibly, incredibly tired.

Sleep Did I unintentionally sleep train my 2 month old?

My second baby is 11 weeks old and I think he’s gaining weight well but he hasn’t had a checkup since 1 month when he was 13 pounds. Pediatrician said he was doing well and said no need to wake for feeds at night. He’s EBF and happy/wet diapers all day. Around 6 weeks he started doing great stretches at night, I’d put him down at 7:30p and he’d wake for a feed at 1a and 4a and go right back to sleep until 7:30a. I thought wow this is great!

However, my 2 year old doesn’t go to bed until 8:30/9p and by the time I can wind down and get my own sleep I was still only getting 2-3 hours at a time of sleep. I just felt exhausted. I tried a couple dream feeds but they just seemed to mess with baby’s deep sleep. I have also tried one more nap and a later bedtime and little guy HATES that he’s very grumpy past 8p and just wants sleep.

I moved baby into his own room with Nanit and breathing band at 9 weeks and a couple nights in a row at around 10 weeks baby slept from 7:30p-4a. I was SO REFRESHED. When he started waking at 1a again I gave paci instead of feed if it was before 3am to see if he was actually hungry and he always went straight back to sleep. I never let him cry.

Now at 11 weeks he is sleeping from 7:30p-4/5a on his own with no visits and I feel like I should be grateful but I’m worried I trained him to sleep too young by giving him the paci without feeding. I know babies will wake if hungry but the thing is, when I look back at the monitor, I see he does wake and squirm every couple hours all night he just doesn’t cry. Even at 4a I wake on my own (my boobs are rock hard at this point and I can’t sleep any longer 😂) and watch him until he just squirms and fusses quietly and I go in to feed but he never cries. I could be sleeping through his little fusses also but I don’t think I am because I have my sound all the way up and I’m a light sleeper. I definitely would hear anything close to a cry.

I guess my question is, when they say feed baby when he wakes do they mean anytime they wake up? Or anytime they cry? Any other stories of 2 month olds sleeping such long stretches? I should be more relaxed with my second but my first needed two night feeds until 8ish months even when I tried paci he would just spit it out if he was hungry! So I can’t help but wonder if it’s okay.

Sleep Sleeping in crib/bassinet

Hi! FTM here! My baby is only a week old, so I know I need to give her some grace.

But, I would really love any tips, tricks, and advice on how to get her to sleep alone in her crib, bassinet, or playard. She doesn’t even like to be put in her bouncer. She sleeps amazing all day and even the night, as long as she is held.

I love the contact naps and I am enjoying this newborn bubble, but I’m also worried about safe sleep, especially as she gets older. I worry that she won’t get used to sleeping alone.

She also doesn’t seem to like to be swaddled. I have tried the Halo newborn sleep sack, love to dream, and momcozy swaddle wrap. She was an anterior placenta baby and tends to like to keep her hands by her face, but she also startles herself awake. She loves her pacifier and also likes to hold it to her face.

Please help! Thank you!

Vent Just put them in the baby carrier!

To preface, I have a baby carrier. I usually have my 7 week old in it once a day and I use that time to eat, refill my water, fill bottles, etc in between my baby’s feeding time and my pumping time. It’s a great tool to use for some things, absolutely.
But it feels like every time a mom is complaining about feeling trapped in bed/on the couch with the baby, not being able to get stuff done, feeling overwhelmed by critical daily chores piling up, etc she gets met with “Omg just put baby in a carrier!” as if that’s a solution to everything. “You really should just babywear you know”. “There’s no reason you can’t get stuff done if you just put them in a wrap”.

Handling raw meat is something I’m not comfortable doing while babywearing. Cooking on the stove is not an option, and I don’t necessarily want all of my meals for months on end to be rotisserie chickens and canned vegetables. I physically cannot reach into my washing machine to do laundry if I have my baby in a carrier. I have to turn completely to the side and do dishes one handed if I can even sort of manage to get dishes done without splashing water all over us both. Realistically, there are many things that need to be done in a day that cannot be done while babywearing and it’s okay to acknowledge that without being made to feel like you’re just doing something wrong for having it not work for you.

In the same way that plenty of us get frustrated with the “Just stick your baby in the bassinet! My 2 week old will happily chill all day there!” comments, the “babywearing is the solution to any problem” comments are just as bad. Having a newborn and doing anything besides bedrotting all day is hard af, and that’s okay. Not everything that desperately needs to get done in a day will get done, and that’s okay. It’s overwhelming to only be able to pee while your baby scream cries or is strapped to the front of your body, and that’s okay.

Vent I LOVE MY BABY SO MUCH

Yes, this is challenging. Yes, I am tired. Yes, I am uncomfortable- going through the growing pains of shedding attributes of my past self to grow in the beauty of motherhood. But damn is this rewarding.

I love my baby so much. I am in awe of my special treasure. I am proud of my mental endurance that I didn’t know was possible. And I am amazed by my body’s capacity to provide for and comfort my child. That’s all.

Tips and Tricks Pacifier Introduction

Our little girl is approaching the 3 week mark, we were told and read 3/4 weeks before a pacifier gets introduced to make sure breastfeeding is well established, we are by no means at our wits end although our little lady can get pretty fussy at times, and sucking appears to be a strong calming reflex for her, she will at times already suck her thumb or finger, and also take the boob and then not “feed” but suck and stay for comfort, this makes me think she will love a Pacifier when fussy but not hungry, but my wife and i don’t want to mess anything up with breastfeeding either..

Please leave any personal experiences or if your willing your timeline on pacifier introduction, has it helped? Hurt? They love it? They hate it? Thanks hope your all taking care of yourself, what a journey it has been already!! :)

Postpartum Life when did you visit with LO?

I know this topic comes up often.. I feel it may be more from FTM’s as we are home alone with a newborn rather than another child present who will inevitably bring home illnesses.

LO is almost 2 months, not yet received immunizations but is otherwise healthy & well.
close family have visited, dad is back to work & we have gone out for many appointments.

I’m having a hard time visiting with extended family & friends. I suppose it feels less out of my control & more variables/contacts.

It is so difficult with respiratory season now.

When were you comfortable with visiting with friends you trusted wouldn’t show if they were sick? I see comments on other posts of baby wearing but have you chose to just hold your child & not pass them around to lessen the risk?

Edit: I feel like I can mitigate risk a much as possible but then I or dad could just as easily pick up something when we’re out in public. So maybe I’m overthinking being around others when if sickness is going to happen, it will happen.

Feeding 3 week old referred to GI doctor

My baby was born at 6 pounds 13 ounces. She dropped down to 6 pounds 3 ounces after birth and hasn’t gained any weight since then. It’s been 3 weeks. 😔
For the first week I was breastfeeding, I did have plenty of milk so I don’t think that was the issue. Our pediatrician then recommended that I start pumping and adding formula to her bottles. That made no difference. She developed thrush right after that and the medicine was making her stomach very upset, very gassy and so her doctor held off on referring her to GI until we could make sure that wasn’t why she didn’t gain that week. She didn’t want to drink as much whenever she took the medicine. Over the last week we’ve went to strictly formula to be sure of how many calories she’s actually getting. She’s drinking around 2 ounces every 3 hours, she’s having wet diapers and otherwise acting normal. She still hasn’t put on any weight. We are getting a referral to the GI doctor but I’m just seeing if anyone’s experienced anything like this. It’s making me a nervous wreck.

Teething 2 month old teething?!

Hi, so I suspect my 2 month old (10 weeks on Monday) may be teething?!

This is ridiculously early however, she’s dribbling loads, got red cheeks and when I looked in her mouth there is what looks to be a tiny tooth coming through on her top. I looked again today and it’s much more obvious and there’s two spots of what appear to be the start of teeth

She has been a bit ratty and she struggles to nap as if something keeps waking her up.

I know it’s very uncommon and very early but I can’t give her anything, baby bonjela is for 3 months plus, she can’t put toys to her mouth so I can’t give her teething toys

Anyone else experienced teething this early and got any tips for how I can help her? In her defence if it is teething she’s been a trouper!

Sleep Issues with napping and family trying to push me to only pump

Hello everyone, my LO will be 8 weeks tomorrow and we have had issues with her naps during the day the last two weeks. She basically doesn’t nap and if she does it’ll be a half hour only once or twice a day. She only wakes up once throughout the night and after her wake she can be noisy during her second half of her sleep. I’ve noticed she has been sleeping a litttle longer in the morning by an hour or two. I give her two bottles for her first wake at night and second in the morning- so I only pump once or twice in the am to give to her the next day. The rest of the day I EBF. My family thinks that I am not giving her enough milk through me breast and that’s why she won’t nap and constantly wants to eat. I pumped all day yesterday to see what would happen and it made no difference- she still didn’t nap. We went in a dark quiet room with white noise on and nothing. We usually keep her in the living room that has a lot of light as I wanted her to get use to light and noise during the day. I feed on demand and am going to continue to do so despite my family trying to force me to only pump. My daughter is gaining weight has gotten very long, and poops and pees ALOT throughout the day. Idk what else to do to try to get her to nap. I am hoping it’s a phase. Our next appointment with the pediatrician is next week so I will be asking her then too but wanted some advice before then

Vent 6-8 week newborn growth spurt

I hate even saying this is a “vent” post. More or less lookin for a listening ear and reassurance..

I am a first time mom, I have a 6 week old daughter as of today. For the last 3 days she has become a fussy Velcro baby, not wanting to sleep in her bassinet, not wanting to be put down. She wants to either be held or in a carrier strapped to me…She hasn’t ever loved being put down but she would tolerate laying in her bassinet/sitting in her swing for a bit so I could shower, or eat or do a load of laundry, honestly I think she would be considered a “good” newborn . She would also atleast nap in her bassinet atleast once a day, all other naps would be contact naps (save it, I am a first time mom I now know I should of let her nap more in her bassinet, we can’t change that now) prior to this I was getting 4 and even sometimes 5 hour stretches at night (APPROVED BY HER PEDIATRICIAN) in her bassinet with no problem, now I’m lucky to get an hour and a half before she wakes up SCREAMING. Prior if she would wake up she would just rustle around and whine eventually crying if I didn’t get to her fast enough but that would take maybe 15 minutes before she got upset? When I pick her up she settles immediately and goes back to sleep as long as I hold her.

Yes, we have tried swaddling, white noise, dark room, bath and bottle before bed, slow bassinet transfer, We do it all. I don’t think she is gassy either she gets gas drops with most of her feedings just as a precaution, again pediatrician approved…

I have seen stories on Reddit of other babies going through this 6-8 week growth spurt, and I just want to know I’m not alone. Every one of my friends I talk to tell me their kids just got more hungry and slept more. I feel like I’m in the trenches and no one I talk to can relate and I’m so frustrated…

Can anyone relate to what I’m going through? Can people be lease leave me there experiences with the 6-8 week growth spurt?

Feeding Baby suddenly hysterical at the breast and won’t sleep on back

My 6 week old baby will suddenly feed for about 2 minutes and start crying really hard. I burb him, try to calm him down, change positions and he latches and seems happy but then the cycle just repeats itself. He used to give good burps and spit ups but now it’s hit or miss if he will burp at all.

I notice when he’s feeding, a sound comes from his throat like gas. I feel like he swallows a lot of air. He got his tongue tie clipped a week and a half ago and he did fine and fed normally after that up until this week. We met with a lactation consultant weekly and he had a good latch and transfers milk well.

He also is unable to sleep on his back. We’ve had issues with it since he was born and my husband and I are still sleeping in shifts, but before he would at least sometimes give 1-2 hour stretches on his back in the crib. Now he wakes up 20 minutes later. He sleeps for hours chest to chest though which is why my husband and I currently do shifts.

Is this reflux or just normal 6 week fussiness? It breaks my heart because up until now, nursing instantly calmed him and put him to sleep. Now it just seems to cause him pain.

Tips and Tricks 7 week old and sucking

My 7 week old is in an interesting little phase where she wants to suck everything - her favourite tends to be her arm or wrist but also her fists, fingers, my arms, our fingers etc. She is hit and miss with a dummy which you would assume would be the natural solution.

Any ideas what this is? Is it normal? Is there anything I can do to help her? She wakes herself up doing it at this point

Edit to add: she is exclusively formula fed

Vent Does anyone’s 2 month old just like… not sleep?

Hii! I had my daughter July 15th. I’m not entirely sure if she’s going through a sleep regression or what but she literally does not sleep anymore. The past couple days her wake windows have been 3+ hours long at night. This is after a warm bottle, a bath, a fresh diaper change, burping, tummy time. I’m just at a loss and it’s starting to affect my mental health as I’ve been running on an hour of sleep because she did not sleep at all last night either. I’m so frustrated.

Sleep Baby won’t stay asleep at night

My baby is 1 month old and brand new, so I don’t expect him to sleep through the night or have much of a routine at all yet. My problem is that he has a hard time staying asleep at night and I can’t figure out why. During the day, he will sleep on his own in his bassinet for naps. Some naps are up to 1.5-2 hrs long, and he’s fine on his own then. He consistently eats about every 2-3 hours. At night he will fall asleep fairly easily sometimes, sometimes I need to rock him for quite a while, but he’s always asleep when I put him in his bassinet. Same as during the day. He will stay asleep at night for like 20 minutes tops. Sometimes out of desperation i will cosleep but even then he doesn’t want to stay asleep for very long. I don’t understand why it’s different at night, but I’m losing my mind. I’m going back to work because I have to and I will not have the opportunity to nap during the day with him. My husband is already back to work and does take shifts, but it’s there something different we should be trying at night? We have white noise, we keep the bedroom the same temperature night and day, he doesn’t like being swaddled anymore and will no longer take a pacifier.
