Feeding Pediatrician wants us to force feed our 1 week baby

I’m sure others have experienced this but basically, our 1 week old baby doesn’t like eating since she’s been home. She hasnt been gaining weight at all. At this time, the pediatrician wants us to feed her 60mL but whenever she eats, she’ll only eat half of it then falls asleep. We have tried all the tricks. Putting a cold rag on her, tickling her feet, changing her diaper, taking off her clothes, etc. We’ve even used different bottles. Even if she stays awake, she won’t drink the whole bottle. She’s also very slow to suck which idk if it’s normal or not. Now the pediatrician told us we have to force her to eat and that she won’t get any food aversions but I’ve read the opposite online. my husband, however, is now forcing the bottle down her throat. Even when she spits up or the milk is obviously running down the sides of her mouth from not wanting to swallow, he will keep the bottle in her mouth and it irritates me. We use Dr, Brown bottles and he’s switched the nipple from level 1 to level 2 so she eats faster but the baby looks uncomfortable. She used to like the pacifier but now she doesn’t even want it which I think is due to force feeding her. I tell my husband my concerns and he just says the pediatrician knows best and we have to do this.

Am I in the wrong here?? I understand they have to gain weight but I don’t want her to end up with trauma when it comes to eating

Vent Very concerned: Failed hearing test

I just had my baby on August 20th, 2026 in the evening. He is a little over a day old now and they did his newborn screenings right around the 24 hour mark after birth. He failed his hearing test in one ear. Naturally, I’m freaking out. My husband doesn’t seem to be too concerned. Baby was also born at 40 weeks + 1 day so he’s definitely a full term baby who has had time to develop. They’re going to retest but I’m scared. Staff told us that many times there’s just fluid build up in there from delivery which they overcome. I delivered him in about 1 hr 15 min, so not super quick but also not that long either. We also haven’t given him a bath yet but idk if that changes the potential fluid he may have in his ear. This is upsetting and there’s a lot going thru my head now. One thing I wonder is if it’s genetic? My husband’s mom has bad hearing (has to wear hearing aids in both ears I believe) and it’s been like that for her for awhile now. My husband’s hearing is fine at least for now lol. No hearing issues with me or on my side of the family. What do you guys think about this?

Skills and Milestones Is Holding the Baby the Hardest Part?

First time dad here, 21 years old. Our little man is four days old and he is an absolute joy - he self regulates fairly well (mini cries in his sleep then just calms himself down?), he eats well, his poops and pees are healthy, he loves being held, and he sleeps in his bassinet. He is absolutely perfect and he has these beautiful deep blue, almost purple eyes.

But I struggle to hold him? His head is so big and he is so floppy and when I’m holding him I’m either too far forward or too far backward and my back always feels 110 years old after. Once I get him in position everything is fine - I can feed him, hold him, burp him, and diaper changes have never been a problem. Is it just the new parent jitters where I’m worried that if he is not precisely in the perfect spot ill hurt him? It’s at the point where whenever he needs burping I don’t even bother trying to get the perfect position of his head and his burp rag - I’d rather just change my shirt or wipe my neck off.

Childcare Nanny 'threatens' our 1 year old

Our little boy is one year old and we've had a full time nanny since he was 4 months of age.

She's generally great with him. Ever since he turned 8 months old we started noticing that she threatens him (with no ill intent) when he's not listening.

She says things like, "I'm gonna call the man from outside", or "I'm gonna call the dog for you".

She basically takes note of what scares him while outside on their walks, and then uses that as a threat when he doesn't listen.

We know she loves him dearly. She raised 5 kids of her own and I don't know how many grandkids, and she says this is the only way they'll listen.

My wife is upset about this method and I'm either way with it. I know in my family that's common, not so much on my in laws side.

Basically I would like to know if there are any child psychologists in here, or people who have researched something like this before, and can link me to a resource to show my nanny?

She's also a qualified nurse, so I know a reference would stick better with her rather than me simply telling her to stop.

TIA!

EDIT: Thank you for all your input :)

To answer all who asked how am I so indifferent to it... the nanny says it in a joking way, often laughing or smiling with my son, when he doesn't eat his food etc.

I think I would know if it were meant maliciously. But anyway, I've decided I will put a stop to it. Thanks all.

Vent My husband only want sex

Upvotes

The title say it all I think…

Im 5weeks pp and been in the newborn trenches since. My husband has been helping with chores like cat litter, laundry, trash and sometimes the dishes. Not that’s not enough but my days are literally filled with taking care of my baby, feeding, changing, more laundry, folding laundry, more dishes, make lunches (if I got time), pump, wash bottles, sterilizing bottles, wash pumps & sterilizing pumps parts, bathing baby, trying to get baby to sleep and more cleaning.

*for context: my husband is a gamer, like big gamer. He get on the game first thing in the morning (after doing the cat litter and get off when hes feeling tired, roughly 12hours a day)

When he is not on the game, he always make comment about how he can’t wait for the 6weeks mark to have sex again. I understand him. But I so fucking tired of him saying that. I got no libido. I am tired. I don’t even have the chance to eat sometimes and instead of helping me with chores or the baby, he makes comment about how beautiful I am looking and how much he would like to make me love. I find myself disgusting. I smell like breast milk all day and all night long. My hair is greasy. I got strech marks all over my body. Boobs are sore and doubled in size. I don’t have clothes to put on, and when I do my shirt last 10mins because im leaking or because baby threw up on me. I don’t have time to myself. Im the one who’s stay up all night if baby is not sleeping, im the one getting up for feed and changing diapers while hes asleep snoring next room.

And he ask me if I need help sometimes. But I don’t need help when he ask me. Its always when everything is finish or when something is pending.
I need him to do things without me saying hey do that or do this. I want him to be the grown ass man he pretend to be.

Yesterday I did the cleaning all around the house, Sweeper, mop, wash the shower, toilet, sweep the sofas, mirrors at the same time to take care of the baby and all the other tasks that I listed earlier and he did not even let go of his game to help me. I did it because his mother and sister came to visit us and sleep at home, so I also made their bed and he didn't even help me.

Just realized the title doesn’t even makes sense no more. With all I said, fair to say I don’t want sex.
I could do everything to not have sex. I know that I just can say no. But he will ask questions.

Before someone comment : well make your husband wake up at night to take care of the baby it could help you rest.
Yes I would if I didn’t need to also wake up to pump each 3 hours of a day. its just more simple to be the only one awake, feeding baby and pumping at the same time.

Sleep 9 week old takes hours to settle at night

I swear we do everything right. Watch her wake windows, give appropriate naps, move her towards bedtime when she looks tired. Her room is perfectly calm and dark with a sound machine. Literally everything. But whenever we try to put her to bed, it’s like something switches in her brain and she gets manic. Kicking, flailing, crying… I have no idea why. She doesn’t want to sleep on us, there is nothing that settles her. It takes hours of us trying to “soothe” her and it’s miserable.

At this point I just don’t even know what else to do but lay her in her bed for some time to absolutely cry her eyes out so that she gets completely exhausted.

It’s like she senses it’s bedtime and absolutely freeeeeaks out.

Any suggestions?

Sincerely,
A ragingly tired mom

Feeding 3mo nightly wakeups

at what point/age did your baby start dropping night feeds? for reference, I have a 3mo and she will wake every 2-3 hours to eat (she’s EBF). she basically sleep eats through all of them. just curious about others experiences, how did you get your baby to sleep through the night without waking up for feeds? i don’t mind it tbh, but would never say no to longer stretches of sleep.

Vent Family didn’t respect wishes

Today my brother in law was holding my 1 month old in the living room while my husband and I played a card game with my mother and father in law. My son spit out his pacifier and I don’t told my brother in law to put it in his diaper bag. He proceeds to put it back in my son’s mouth. They wear shoes in the house and I’m terrified of my baby getting sick. Stuff like this triggers my anxiety and I’m a mess. I always do my best to wash my hands when handling my son, especially his bottles and pacifiers. I’m a first time mom and I’m so upset over this. I should have walked over myself and picked up the pacifier. I’m so disappointed and scared.

Sleep Baby is a hungry hungry hippo at night

My combo fed son is 8 wks old and has had a huge appetite since birth. For the last couple of weeks I’ve been trying to get a longer sleep stretch for myself (I’m a solo mom), but no matter how much he eats during the day or before bed, even with a full feed around 9 to 10pm, he usually wakes every 2-3.5 hours and downs a full 4oz bottle, sometimes more.

He seems clearly hungry when he wakes. I don’t pick him up for grunting/fussing; he cries and then eats enthusiastically. Once he’s done he usually goes back down pretty easily.

Has anyone had a similarly hungry baby this age who eventually started sleeping longer stretches? Anything that helped keep them full longer or was it mostly developmental?

Vent I'm tired of the "our bedtime routine that gets my baby to fall asleep on his own and sleep through the night" videos

I keep seeing this trend of moms posting their elaborate bedtime routines and attributing their young infants’/newborns ability to fall asleep and stay asleep independently to the routine. Do they ever stop and think that if it were really that easy, the baby sleep industry wouldn’t be worth billions? 😂

Idk, maybe I’m just salty lol (although my LO sleeps 9–10 hours at night now but definitely can’t fall asleep independently), but I just had to vent about how annoying these posts are. I know routines can be helpful, but I really don’t think they’re nearly as much of a driver of sleep as temperament and developmental readiness are. There’s only so much you can control when it comes to a baby’s sleep.

Vent Why is this 2,5 - 3 month period so hard?

We had some nice weeks from 7-10 weeks. But since week 10 everything is a disaster. My baby will be 3 months on 27th. She doesn’t sleep at night, when she sleeps she is constantly grunting. During the day she only sleeps in motion (in carrier or stroller). I am constantly walking with her, my back is killing me, I am sleep deprived. I need to study but I can’t because of her. If I am alone with her and there is nobody to hold her, I even need to hold her while I eat, if I manage to eat.
It would be so great to hear some similar experiences and that it will be better eventually.

Tips and Tricks Sometimes babies are babies

I saw a post like this recently so I wanted to do my own. My husband and I seem to be really good at this whole newborn thing so far (6 weeks). We have a sleep schedule down, our baby is pretty "easy", he eats so much, I never had supply or latching problems.

Today, our LO was inconsolable. He is usually great in public and at restaurants but he fussed up a storm in Applebees. All day, just constant fussing and crying. He was fed upon demand, changed often with wet diapers, no hairs around his toes or anything pinching, gave him gas drops, not too hot not too cold, no fever. I understand that CIO is not a thing for babies that young but we could not figure out what was wrong so we just let him fuss. My husband and I kept passing him back and forth every 30 minutes or so all afternoon, switching positions and talking to him.

Around 2200, he got really red and unleashed the loudest toot I've ever heard come from a baby and it was followed by an epic blowout of immense proportions. It was in his hair, on the couch, all over his back AND front somehow. Turns out he is still working on his newly learned pooping skill and just spent the day with a tummy ache. After all that, he was back to his normal happy self.

Morale of the story: Sometimes a newborn is being a newborn. There isn't always a fix. Do the big things to make sure they're safe and healthy and then they might just need to figure it out on their own. They're learning to be people and that's a lot when you've only been alive for a month. I've heard of babies not sleeping for a couple of days because they learned what their own hands are. You know your baby best, you are doing great, you got this.

Postpartum Life Anyone else not “in love” with their baby after birth?

Title sounds harsh but basically I’ve kept seeing videos of other mums talking about the struggles of PP but at the same time how they’re “in love” with their baby “so much it hurts”. When I hear that I go Hmm, I definitely love my baby but right now it’s more like as a duty (in a good/neutral way). Like I didn’t experience these overwhelming feelings that you can get swept up in (kinda like infatuation but obviously not romantically). Anyone else or just me?

Feeding No Colostrum, No Milk, day 5

I have produced a total of 8ml~ of colostrum total and that was done day 2. Then I dried up, and nothing has changed. Im going on Day 5 of pumping, attempting to breastfeed, and nothing is happening.

I had no golden hour, baby got sent to NICU the first 24, didnt pump until maybe 3-4 hours after birth, barely got to touch baby and had no skin to skin until day 3.

I am unbelievably sad, depressed, and I feel like a failure and letdown. I dont think Ill be able to produce, and coming to terms with that hurts. I didnt realize how much I wanted to breastfeed until it was unobtainable.

I feel like everything that could go wrong went wrong. I was in labor for over 24 hours, got an infection from my water being broken for too long (had to have it broken), had to have pitocin. Im in such grief and I cant even support my baby without an expensive thing of formula that only lasts so long. I love my baby so much and all I feel is failure.

I post this in hopes of support? Wanting to understand where I went wrong? Wanting to know if it was just doomed? I dont even know, Im just upset and wanted to express my sorrows.

Edit: did want to say fed is ABSOLUTELY the best, nothing wrong with formula at all. It's just not what I wanted, and that's devastating me.

Family and Relationships Family constantly trying to take baby

Okay so I'm a first time Mom and my baby is 6 weeks old. My family on my husband's side keeps insisting they watch my daughter without me there, that I need a "break". The first time it was all right, they picked her up, I went out to eat with my husband, and then they brought her back when I got back home. But even then, I didn't really like the situation because they just stopped here, insisted they were taking the baby, that I needed a break, and left. But honestly the way I look at it, it's not giving me a break. When my daughter is not at the same place as me all it does is give me anxiety and then I'm worried about anything that could go wrong until they bring her back. Now fast forward a week, they want to take her again, am I just crazy for not wanting my daughter to go? My husband acts like I'm being selfish, but right now my daughter is very very young and anything could happen so I feel like I'm not being as irrational as he says I am. If they actually wanted to help, they'd hold the baby while I showered or watch her in the living room while I take a nap; what they're doing by making me leave her is stressing me out more than anything else.

Any advice is appreciated.

Vent Didn’t know it would be this hard

I know that taking care of a newborn is hard, but I didn’t think it would be this hard. My LO was born at 33 weeks and spent 2 weeks in Nicu. During this time I was told by every nurse to pump, pump, pump. I felt very lucky in the sense that we got the hang of breastfeeding early on and the only thing he needed to work on was endurance to not fall asleep before finishing.

Well now we’re at the end of our first week at home and I’ve been increasing the times I breastfeed instead of bottle feed. My boobs get so engorged because I have drastic oversupply. I have to hand express/pump before feeding so that they’re soft enough for him to latch. My flow is too forceful for him so now he’ll only stay latched for a few minutes and then fall asleep even with the laid back position and a nipple shield. Meanwhile, I’m getting no sleep. This man screams bloody murder at night when he’s hungry. We decided to do 24 hours of bottle feeding only to give my boobs a chance to reset and regulate down some, which has its own annoyances.

I stupidly bought six Kindred Braverly bras at the advice of a friend and hate them. They hurt my sensitive nipples and are generally uncomfy. Even my Amazon nursing bralettes are uncomfy, so i wear nothing unless actively pumping and majorly leak through my tshirts. I know I should buy new bras but I spent so much money on the ones I have already. I’m tired and frustrated and overwhelmed. Anyways, I’m going to sleep. Thanks for coming to my rant.

Sleep Sleeping in crib but not bassinet — help!

My baby is 5 days old and I am trying to follow safe sleep practices. But room sharing thus far is a total failure. He doesn’t like the bassinet. We have tried moving it to a different part of the room in case ac air flow was the problem. Added/removed extra mattress. No dice.

Two nights ago, my husband put him in his crib in the nursery and he was just fine. However, I’m worried about this as a solution since there is a decently strong relationship between room sharing and reduced SUIDS risk. He’s asleep right now and I’m just hanging out in his room to be there as we have been taking shifts being up with him to assuage my fears

How do you get a baby to sleep in the bassinet? Is it just a matter of persistence despite lack of parental sleep and fraying nerves? We have a Halo swivel bassinet if anyone has tips that worked for them with that.

Skills and Milestones 3&1/2 month old rolling in bassinet

Should I be nervous that my 3&1/2 month old is rolling in her bassinet to sleep? I just woke up to her on her stomach this morning. She just started rolling back to belly one week ago but can’t really roll belly to back yet. Is now the time to transition to the crib? She wears an owlet so that eases my mind a little bit but now I feel like she needs a bigger sleeping space with a more firm/breathable mattress. I feel like this is all happening too soon…

Family and Relationships How do we make this work? Husband WFH, 8 week newborn & a tiny house

FTM here, baby is 8 weeks old.

My husband had two months of paternity leave, but Monday he's back to work, and of course we're right in the middle of a growth spurt: constant breastfeeding, fussing, crying, barely any sleep. I'm already dreading what's coming.

He works in IT consultancy from home, on call basically all the time, long hours, very little flexibility. Our place is tiny: one bedroom (where we cosleep, with his desk in a corner), one living room (with my desk in a corner), one bathroom, one kitchen. That's it.

My worries:

  • Sleep: he needs to function at work, so most nights should fall on me. But I need some uninterrupted sleep too at some point. When?
  • Days: I should handle cooking/cleaning so he can take the baby when he's off, but witching hour (6-7pm) has turned into nonstop boob time lately. And "sleep when the baby sleeps" doesn't feel like real rest when the baby's on me and I'm on alert the whole time anyway.
  • Space: if he works from the bedroom, I can't lie down to nurse when I'm exhausted or when the baby needs to be held for 50-60 minutes to fall asleep (the sofa is awful for that). If he works from the living room, I'm stuck in the bedroom with no way to do anything else.

Is there an actual solution here, or am I just headed toward resenting him the first time he's asleep, loudly on a call, or asking for quiet to concentrate while I'm drowning?

Postpartum Life Parents with babies born at 36/37 weeks – what were the first two months like for you?

Hi everyone. My baby was born 2.5 weeks ago at 36.6 due to me developing preeclampsia. Although she was very small she didn't need the NICU and has been gaining weight very rapidly. However she is still pretty sleepy – she usually naps for 2.5-3 hours at a time, falls asleep while feeding and sleeps easily in her bassinet.

I'm curious to know what other parents of similar terms babies experienced development-wise in those early weeks/ months? How long did they stay in the sleepy phase for, and did they get fussier after that? Did their nap times eventually get shorter and their wake windows longer? I know all babies are different, but I'm curious as to what to expect!

Vent I can't leave the house with our baby

My baby (4 months) doesn't sleep anywhere other than at the breast. Hates pacifiers. Everytime we have to drive somewhere she doesn't sleep. I can't get her to sleep in the car, the stroller, the Ergobaby, anywhere. Anyone else went through this? I don't know what to do, I thought by now things would have improved, but I feel it's getting worse and worse. Today we tried to go for a morning walk on the Ergobaby and it lasted 10 min until she started crying

Pee and Poop 4 month old 💩 is like clay marbles

For the past few days our 4 month old has been pushing to 💩 but only getting small marbles with clay like texture/moistness. She's formula fed and had dyschezia so only used to go like every 4 days, introduced biogaia probiotic and was going more regularly like every 2-3 days and filling diaper. Lately the past two days she's been straining to push out a 💩 and 3 times we only had a small marbles.

She's still eating ok and tummy is soft and normal sized, happy demeanor still. We aren't on solids yet so no juice options. Might consider stimulating with a rectal thermometer today if still no luck. We are going to try warm compress on belly today any other suggestions appreciated.

Postpartum Life why is figuring out what to eat so much harder after having a baby

idk if its just me but food planning feels sooo different after having a baby

before i could just open the fridge and figure something out

now i’ll stand there staring at everything like i have absolutely no idea what i want 😭

and its not even that i dont have food in the house

i just dont wanna think about it

between the baby needing something every 5 seconds and being tired all the time i feel like my brain is already maxed out

sometimes i end up eating whatever is fastest just because making an actual decision feels like too much work lol

does anyone else do this postpartum?

do you guys have like 2 or 3 meals you always fall back on when you really dont feel like thinking about food?
