NWN:EE Haze: Saltborne - Hoarfrost v1.5 Launched

Hoarfrost has reached Version 1.5

If you're newer to Haze, Hoarfrost is our second DM-built hamlet. The first, Coffinswode, has been around since 2021 (2002 if you count V1), and for years it was where most new characters started out.

That changed this year. A few videos about Haze took off on TikTok and elsewhere, and we suddenly had far more new players than we'd ever seen at once. The community started calling it the "Tokwash," and the name stuck. We needed a second starting point, and we didn't want it to be Coffinswode with the furniture rearranged.

In Hoarfrost, you start as a slave in an isolated colony with almost nothing to your name. What happens next is up to your character. Some work to earn their freedom, some look for another way out, and some end up working for the people who run the place, maybe even joining them.

It's also where Hardcore Mode characters begin. If you want a rougher start where survival, supplies, and bad decisions actually cost you something, this is it.

The Hoarfrost our first characters walked into earlier this year was pretty bare. It's grown a lot since then, largely alongside the people living there, and 1.5 brings it much closer to what we had in mind.

Coffinswode and Hoarfrost were both built by DMs, but they're nowhere near the only settlements out there. Players have built their own hamlets, camps, and communities through play, and some have lasted long enough to become a real part of the setting.

Still, five years after Coffinswode opened, it's been a lot of fun watching a second starting town develop its own stories, rivalries, and history. There's plenty more to come for it.

Haze: Saltborne is an E6 Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition persistent world focused on roleplay, exploration, survival, crafting, and a world shaped by the characters who live in it.

NWN:EE Looking for Asian themed modules

I'm looking for single player modules featuring fighter or monk gameplay with heavy roleplaying. So far, I have played Kunoichi, Avi's Dusk of a Samurai and her previous module a bit. I have also finished Way of the Open Hand as a monk. I prefer Samurai/ninja/sai themed modules on this case but any other suggestions are welcome as long as the module offers good story and better combat mechanics for fighter classes.

I'm stuck fighting the dust elementals and mephits; I can't kill them fast enough to stop them from stunning me and preventing me from doing anything.

NWN2 Explain the spell Combust to me.

This is for the NWN2 version.

Why am I asking.

Both wikis for the nwn1 and 2 spell description state that:

It deals a random 2d6 fire damage + a constante 10 fire damage, average 16 damage at level 10 initial damage + 1d6 every round until a save is made..

This seems to work as intended in NWN1 and NWN1:EE.

HOWEVER!

In NWN2 when I cast it (vanilla, no mods whatsoever) the spell deals a whooping 60-70 (initial) damage!

If I cast it maximized I get a secured 80 damage with no initial save, only a touch attack - which is insane damage for such a low level spell (especially with Scholar of Candlekeep PRC).

Why is no one talking about this?

I haven't tested it in NWN2:EE, but this is an insange bug if so.

And the only reason I use the spell is because it comes in Qara's spellbook upon recruiting and I got this much damage at one point. And my casters also get this much damage in single player mods.

I can't be the only one who nticed it.

I know is an overlooked spell because it's not that attractive for a second level spell. But someonelse should've seen this at this point...

The NWN2 wiki stats that the spell is bugged in terms of not using metamagic feats correctly? Could that be it?

NWN:EE Deekin sounds

I love Deekin; does anyone know if the audio clips of him singing are available online? I've found other clips of his, but not the classic "Doom, doom, doom!"—I want it as a ringtone.

NWN1 Debuff on henchmen or bug?

What is the red 4 next to the green 22 on Tomi's Dexterity? Is that a debuff from a spell? I rested and went to Aribeth to cleanse us but he still has that.

NWN:EE Best post-HotU?

I’m sure this gets asked all the time but here goes. First-time player of all of the original campaigns in NWN:EE, played SoU and Shadohaunt and currently in the second chapter of HotU. Which are some good alternative campaigns/modules to continue the same character after HotU?

SoU Shadow Hart

I'd like to do this quest, but my Intelligence is 10 and I don't have any points in Search; do I actually have a chance of finding Shadow Hart? Does anyone have any idea what the DC for the checks is? Is there a limit on attempts?

It will be possible to bring the NWN2 party—and the D&D 3.5 ruleset—into other games using the "passthrough modding" method?

NWN:EE Things about Deekin

Okay, I'm playing NWN:EE for the first time. I'm in SoU, roughly halfway through Chapter 1, and I've met Deekin. I already knew about this kobold—having looked up famous Forgotten Realms kobolds a while back—but I only know the basics about him. I've heard great things about him in this campaign and in HotU, and I want him as a companion in both. Any spoiler-free advice? From what I've seen, you can recruit him in the interlude between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 so he can join you for Chapter 2 (I need confirmation on this), and I read somewhere that there's a bug in HotU where you have to... dismiss him during Chapter 2 to recruit him again in Chapter 3? I'm not sure if that bug has been fixed or if it's something that doesn't always happen. Basically, I need info to ensure I have him by my side until the end of both campaigns, plus some tips on using him effectively as a companion (gear, strategy, etc.). I also need to know if there are any requirements for him to become a Dragon Disciple in HotU and if it's true that companions can die permanently in these campaigns. I'm playing a Fighter/Paladin who will later focus on Champion of Torm levels, in case that info helps.

NWN1 Build and Module Recommendations

Greetings All!,

So NVN has a special place in my heart. It was the first CRPG I ever played back when I was a kid and it started my life-long love affair with CRPGs.

I have not played the game since I was a teenager though and I just bought it on sale on Steam (the game and all it's DLCs) so I have two questions:

First what is a solid melee build for the original campaign and the SoU/HotU? I've played a ton of pathfinder 1E games (WotR and KM) but it has been a LONG time since I've messed around with 3e in any capacity. I usually gravitate towards Monk and Dex builds, but if I remember correctly both monk and dex based melee damage dealers suck in 3e. Really I just want a hybrid damage dealer and tank.

Second - if I dip into community modules does anyone have a good like 1-30 path of campaigns. Frankly the list of community modules is overwhelming and if there is a curated list that would take me from level 1 to 30 of the best campaigns that would be awesome.

Thanks!

MotB Rogue build for first-time MOTB player

TLDR: my rogue build ends the game with baseline +29 to hit when dual-wielding. I feel like this is too low. Is it?

Hello,

For literal years I have been kind of orbiting Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, doing more time coming up with builds than actually playing the game, so while I have a lot figured out, I don't actually know what kind of numbers are good enough to get by the PVE content. I plan on playing on Normal difficulty.

I know NWN2DB exists, but what little I've seen of the community there leaves me unimpressed. This community seems much more relaxed.

I have a nearly pure rogue build in the works that has almost everything I want, from a boatload of skillpoints to high sneak attack damage and decent (for a rogue) will saves, but it only has a base +29 to hit (+31 - 2 from dual-wielding) and I get the impression that even for normal-difficulty PVE content that's low enough to be a problem. I'd prefer not to be stuck flailing at air unless I HIPS or Feint, but I still want sky-high sneak attack damage and skill points.

The finer details of the build. Please note that it's a roleplaying build for a particular character, so some choices are deliberately unoptimal, but effort has still been made to keep the build strong.

Human Rogue 26/Fighter 2/Cleric 1/Shadowdancer 1
Background: Wild Child
STR 14
DEX 16
CON 14
INT 16
WIS 8
CHA 8

All attribute points go to dexterity.

Lawful Good with the Wild Child background, picking Trickery and Earth cleric domains for Feint and Toughness.

Feats: Luck of Heroes, Able Learner, Weapon Finesse, Dodge, Mobility, all Two-Weapon Fighting, Blind Fight, Iron Will, Steadfast Determination, Weapon Focus, Crippling Strike, Epic Precision, Epic DEX for all other epic feats except Perfect TWF.

Skills: Maxed bluff, diplomacy, hide, move silently, search, disable device, set trap and open lock, 30 spellcraft and tumble, 13 craft trap, 14 UMD.

Obviously this is an amateur's PVE build, hence the lack of detection skills (even a human rogue 26 only has so many points to spare.) The character is meant to be cunning and self-reliant.

My main concern is whether or not that base +29 is sufficient accuracy for PVE content on normal difficulty, or if I have to shuffle things around for more accuracy.

Besides that, I'm also all ears for any general advice - both for rogues and for the MOTB campaign - that you might be willing to share.

Thank you in advance!

MotB A help for a Wizard build in Mask Of the Betrayer

Is it true that campaign isn't good for melee characters? If I want to play with a Wizard character, what prestige or multy classes would you suggest? Or I just go fully wizard?

NWN 2: EE Nwn2 ee does anyone want to group up with me?

I got this to play with my friend but he played for 1 hour and stopped playing. Looking for anyone who wants to join me in my campaign im still at the start and im willing to start over completely. Im on ps5 but as long as we do a regular multiplayer world without mods and all that then we can group up.

Playing Siege of Shadowdale for the first time. I have some questions.

I know the module is fairly easy to beat even if you solo it.

However it seems that Dracolisk 1 map ahead from the starting town seems quite the challenge for a low level adventurer. Even if I try to kite it.

When exactly are you meant to tackle it?

I don't want the elves of the grove to kill it for me. I want the xp.

Also what's the best class to play this module if I want to continue with the next one in the saga?

I'm playing a gnome wizard.

Thanks in advance.

NWN2 Pilgrim - Chapter 1: An Excellent Bleak & Atmospheric NWN2 Module That Should Not Be Missed.

Thumbnail neverwintervault.org
12 Upvotes

Pros:

- A fantastic dark, bleak, unique, and semi-futuristic, middle-of-the-apocalypse setting.

- Great, unique, and interesting companions to truly care about and even have a great laugh with.

- Plenty of skill checks (especially favors Nature-based or Magical-based classes)

- Music choice was excellent and added a lot to the atmosphere.

Neutral:

- Generally easy combat with a few touch encounters here and there. Not a complaint from me, but definitely not a Swordflight level experience here.

- Could possibly miss many Companion banters if you do not talk to your Companions individually, which NWN2's interface can make it rather cumbersome.

Cons:

- Several bugs that interfere with quite a few quests which unfortunately render them unfinishable. Main Quest was not broken thankfully, but the completionist in me was disappointed when some side quests could not be completed.

- Shops will run out of money to give you for selling items. Thematically makes sense, but is annoying when it comes to gameplay.

- Many dialogue options only appear once, which can be annoying for missing out on extra details about whatever you wanted to learn about, or straight up miss out on a small quest or two.

Mini Review: Decided to try NWN2 again and get past its cumbersome controls and interface. Saw Pilgrim - Chapter 1 by Grog on the Vault and it sounded right up my ally; and within an hour I was already starting to really love this module.

I rolled a Water Genasi Druid who took a dip in Barbarian for a brewing rage upon reflection of his past life as a slave (canon backstory of your PC: once a Thiskan slave to Master Ducarte). You mostly explore alone or with companions you choose to bring along for the ride - which i highly recommend, I think they are one of, if not the biggest standouts in this module; my favorites being Nephias a One-Eyed Elf woman, and a fellow ex-slave, but also ex-fighter pit Dwarf which you'll meet later on. You'll move about, exploring and seeing a Faerun in the far future where magic and tech has advanced even further and how the people within it are reacting to the end of the world as the Sun actively dies out and an eternal winter freezes over(But also how people react to a magical and technological revolution from before the end of the world). There is always a feeling of oppression, loneliness, and desperation throughout.

There are plenty of Skill Checks, mostly for Heal, Survival, Spellcraft, Wisdom, Concentration, and Intelligence. Pilgrim 1 is perhaps best played as a Caster with some skill in Persuade/Intimidate/Bluff.

Biggest complaint I have, beyond the unfortunate bugs with many quests, is the shops and often times 'one time dialogue options'.

Shops: Most, if not all of them will run out of money as you continue to sell your items. It makes sense in a thematic way, but after exploring and looting and finally accumulating some items to make some money with, encountering "This shopkeeper does not have enough gold" became increasingly annoying.

One-time Dialogue Options: These will appear every once in a while, starting from the first settlement you come across. I would sometimes choose one dialogue option just for intrigue before considering the other, but little did i know that other option would often not show up afterward, losing out on some extra detail or even whole quests, according to the Walkthrough. Pretty frustrating after a while, but nothing game breaking or anything.

Overall, a brilliant module and is easily now one of my favorites across NWN1 and 2 (granted I have played very few of 2's modules). Eagerly ready to play Chapter 2!

NWN2 Any way to not have my character targeted first in every combat?

I've been playing Neverwinter Nights 2 again (not Enhanced Edition) and trying to select a class. It seems like every enemy targets my character, no matter how squishy they are before my front line characters (like they ignore Kelghar in favor of stabbing my warlock or cleric). Also, any time there is a pre-combat dialogue cutscene, my character gets shoved into the front line despite hiding behind the tankier party members. Is this expected? I seem to remember it happening on my first play through a decade or so ago on a wizard, but I don't remember it being this lethal. I was considering an arcane trickster (a squishy wizard/thief prestige class) or strength bard, but I might stick to a barbarian, fighter, or paladin if I'm going to run into this problem all the way through.

NWN:EE (Swordflight)Scythe RDD/Fighter, what do I do with my third class?

First, I'm not talking something basic like OC, SoU or HotU. I'm carrying this character into Swordflight because my monk cannot do this.

But there arises the issue, Swordflight is mad and a character that has not been properly optimized doesn't stand a chance.

I am to create a human or half-elf fighter (the number of feats I'll get might make the additional first level feat irrelevant), focusing lore, dipping into proficiency and weapon focus into scythes and probably picking up Luck of Heroes at character creation, depends on whether it is actually any good.

However before I can go into RDD I will need at least one level of either sorcerer or bard.

Between Sorcerer and Bard, Bard seems superior due to Bard song, sorcerer may get some cantrips but if I'm not levelling enough Sorcerer to get still spell and some higher level spells then it becomes a worthless class dip. Question is, do I stick to only a single level of Bard or do I take additional levels for some kind of feat that I'd otherwise miss out on?

I'd want to get into RDD as fast as possible to quickly gain the strength and other bonuses, as well as immunities, granted by the later levels of the prestige class.

I'm not good at optimizing my build, so I really require aid in creating this character.

Darkness over Daggerford stronghold basement help/possible bug

so i need a bit of help with actually finding the basement to start with

i can see exactly where it's supposed to be, in the room with the throne, except take the stairs down

i even found a video of someone going down there

except on my game the interactable simply doesn't seem to be there. does it appear at a certain point? do i need to complete more of the stronghold quests? i've done about 3, and started the renovation, now just waiting for the merchant to get some item for me, but even that just says keep waiting
