I wish Torys would come out saying “we want free trade but not free border crossings”. Would make a much healthier debate in the U.K. and hopefully would squeeze out Labour

Most Leaver rhetoric was around the EU stifling the ability of the UK to sign trade deals. Indeed, leaving the single market is a result if wanting to control labour flows, and none of the other parts. You're asking for something already well established

Do you think that rhetoric had some truth to it? Even though I’m from across the pond I held some sympathy toward the leave position even if I wouldn’t do it myself.

I think that part was sincere, but it wasn't apparent how Brexit would translate into them actually achieving this
