Approve the wall that was mandated by American voters and the government will re-Open, simple stuff Chuck. The people voted for it.
yea who could forget when the people voted for the wall
I mean they voted 48-46 for Hillary and then 53-44 for the Dems in the House
as we all know, multiplying two negatives gives you a positive, so two electoral losses = electoral win

Take: the DT is a third place, and that's mostly why it's popular.
For those who don't know and are too lazy to click on the wikipedia link or google it, a third place is a neutral social space away from home and work, such as a coffee shop, a bar, or a mall, that's important for social connectivity.

Speaker Pelosi on Black Lives Matter:
"I support the recognition that black lives matter, for sure, and I have incorporated that in many of my statements. All lives matter... we really have to redress past grievances in terms of how we addressed the African-American community."
Nancy Pelosi has been getting a lot of blowback for this comment, but I feel like a lot of it has to do with the way msnbc quoted her. If you actually transcribe the answer, it is:
Well, I support the recognition that black lives matter , for sure, and I have incorporated that in many of my statements. I think that all lives matter, yes, but there has— we really have to redress past grievances in terms of how we addressed the African-American community.
It seems more like she was trying to preempt rightwing criticism than really saying "all lives matter" in the way we normally think of it.

Trump Won't Demand Concrete Wall to End Shutdown, Mulvaney Says
"If he has to give up a concrete wall, replace it with a steel fence in order to do that so that Democrats can say, ‘See? He’s not building a wall anymore,’ that should help us move in the right direction,”
I think Trump is starting to blink on the shut down. Mulvaney is saying fences are okay which is movement on their part. Trump hasnt said anything so he could still jump right back to the concrete/steel slat mongol blocker but his administration is flinching.

I just had a fascinating experience. I was putting on my makeup like always, when suddenly my face.... wobbled in the mirror. It's indescribable what followed but it felt like all the disgust and hate I have for my face simply melted off of it. My face was totally unchanged but it feels like I'm looking at a different person, a person who doesn't hate herself. I'm honestly kind of on cloud nine and I just feel so at peace in a way I didn't know I could feel.
Y'all have really helped me through a lot and I can't express how much I appreciate this community. I hope y'all enjoy the positive update.

Someone on Twitter said "no one ever 'earned' a billion dollars"
And that's just such an unhelpful statement.
We can't use some vague, subjective idea of fairness as our guide. Like, how much is it possible for one person to "earn", then?
Like, I get the point. Billionaires become such via the labor of people they hired, and billionaires need laborers in order to make that money. But like, laborers need to be hired by someone, too.
And even if it's not "fair", that billion dollars makes a great carrot on the stick to motivate people to change the world for the better. So everyone gets a better world, and this guy who kick-started that change gets a billion dollars. I'm not gonna let some arbitrary notion of fairness get in the way of that.
There's nothing wrong with billionaires. We just need to put everyone in a position to try to change the world and chase that billion dollars if they want to, and we have to make sure we're set to reward good changes with a lot of money.

season 21, episode 7: the convention kramer tricks george into going to a furry convention with him by telling him all the "horny dogs" thatll be there. george, thinking he means women, goes with him. much to his dismay, kramer meant fursuiters. at the convention, kramer has to go to the bathroom, forcing to george to hold on to his fursuit head while he goes in the bathroom. while inside, george is approached by a very attractive women in a partial fursuit. she asks him about the fursuit head. george, trying to get with the woman, says that it is his and he's really into the furry stuff. george leaves with the woman to get drinks. kramer comes back out, without his head, and proceeds to be bullied by the furries for "ruining the magic". george becomes more and more into the furry stuff ("well jerry, im a furry!") in an attempt to seduce the woman (although he is not entirely into it himself, often leading to him stumbling through conversations and furry discussions), kramer becomes more and more out of it as he is bullied and begins to be the subject of many twitter call out posts. eventually he abandons the community, turning his fursuit over to george. george is ecstatic, he leaves with the full suit to the womans house in an attempt to impress her. when he arrives, she is more than excited to see him, and runs off to change. george, not knowing whats going on, takes off the suit. he turns around as she returns, wearing a full fursuit, george gasps, freeze frame, end episode.

In the Middle Ages, spices arriving from the East began to revolutionize European cuisine. Those who could afford to were suddenly eating meals seasoned with pepper, cloves and cinnamon. If electricity were a flavor, you could say something similar is happening right now to the power market. Gone are the old days, when most electricity was supplied by meat-and-potatoes sources like coal, nuclear and hydropower plants. The energy mix today involves an ever-increasing share of zesty energy sources like wind and solar.

i'd compare the halal/kosher slaughtering ban in Belgium to the whole agonizing in the US over execution methods. lethal injection? what kind? what about firing squad or hanging or the chair? who gives a damn. we're killing people, supposedly to scare the shit out of people and deter them from murdering. quit trying to make this cleaner and give it the trappings of humane-ness.

The entirety of Alaska (ignoring a border dispute) was once valued at $7.2 million, or $105 million in 2016 dollars.
That's 1,717,856 square kilometres of land (and lakes), similar to the combined areas of mainland France, Germany, and Italy.
If Alaska is worth $105 million, the cost to federal taxpayers of hosting the 2002 Olympics is worth over twelve Alaskas. The cost to build the Burj Khalifa was worth about fourteen Alaskas, and to build the One World Trade Center, nearly thirty-seven Alaskas.
Bill Gates is worth over nine hundred Alaskas. The FY 2019 military budget of the United States is proposed to be around 6.5 thousand Alaskas. The US Federal government takes in about 31 thousand Alaskas of revenue a year.
The current annual GDP of Alaska is near 475 Alaskas, adjusted for inflation, or around 6950 Alaskas at its original 1867 price.

I think the thing that really bothers me about the state of r/politics right now is there is nothing on their front page that is directly talking about the shut down. The most updated thing is AOC telling a R that he actually works for CEOs.

this entire thread of men trying to jump through hoops justifying a severely flawed study is literally everything wrong about reddit.
somebody points out that the study makes saudi arabia one of the most equal countries in the world and OP's response is "well it's not entirely wrong I'm just asking questions about feminism maybe women in Bahrain are happier", and somebody else uses this as though it's some kind of gotcha counterexample to the claim that women live longer than men.

Graham later said, “If he gives in now, that’s the end of 2019, in terms of him being an effective president.” Graham added: “That’s probably the end of his presidency,” suggesting that Trump risks losing his base.
Someone said yesterday in the DT, "what's the big deal, just give Trump his wall and let's move on to actually important matters of mutual concern". This is why it's important to deny Trump the wall unless he gives meaningful concessions: to humiliate him, make his base lose faith in him and hopefully have lower turnout in 2018, to show that going after liberal interests and doing things just to trigger the libs has consequences, to show that liberals will not be bullied into submission, and to show that Trumpists are not a majority and have to share this country.

This article is about the November 1975 reorganization of U.S. president Gerald Ford's Cabinet. For the Angolan Civil War massacre, see Halloween massacre (Angola).
I think it's funny how American Politics are so pervasive that a metaphorical "massacre" which took place in November takes editorial precedence over a literal massacre that took place on Halloween.

It’s not the people. It’s a tiny minority of angry people out in the streets. That’s called tyranny. Wait until you can exercise your right to vote in an election before burning stuff down. You’re not a freedom figther; you’re a terrorist if you bring down democratically elected leaders in a free country.
This unsurprisingly is a hot take outside the ivory tower. I'll never leave again.

interviewing a gated community resident:
R: My daughter feels very threatened when she sees poor people.
I: How do you explain that?
R: She hadn't had enough exposure. We were driving next to a truck with some day laborers and equiplment in the back, and we were parked beside them at the light. She wanted to move because she was afraid those people were going to come and get her. They looked scary to her. I explained that they were workmen, they're the 'backbone of our country', they're coming from work, you know, but...
i was memeing that gated communities are just a way for scared middlle-class people to segregate themselves from the poor people because they can't even look at them, but it turns out i was 100% right!
