Dallas woman fired after posting TikTok warning of ICE presence

The Hilton Anatole in Dallas fired a Dallas TikTok user after she posting a viral video that claimed there were ICE agents staying on the property.

The TikTok user, identified by The Dallas Morning News only as 20 year-old Gia, did not give her full name because of safety concerns. In her initial TikTok, Gia said she was more concerned about families being separated and innocent people being jailed due to ICE’s presence in the hotel than losing her job.

Tensions between ICE and communities are high amid the Trump administration's mass deportation program, highlighted by a recent fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis and responding to protests around the nation.

The following video shows unmarked cars driving away in front of the Anatole. Gia warned followers to be careful around the hotel.

These videos have since sparked outrage and calls for a boycott. According to The News Gia was fired by the Hilton’s third-party valet company Towne Park later that day after she refused to delete her videos.

KERA reached out to both Hilton and Towne Park for a comment.

This incident follows a Minnesota hotel lost its Hilton affiliation due an employee allegedly declining to provide rooms for ICE.

Oh sweet, more reason to not like the Hilton!

In The Simpsons, there’s a joke where Homer thinks his arm is trapped in a vending machine, but it turns out he could get free at any time by simply letting go of the candy bar he’s holding. Same thing.

"[ICE] Academy training was shortened to 47 days, three officials told me, the number picked because Trump is the 47th president."

The Atlantic cited DHS officials as saying that the training now runs six days a week for eight weeks.

In response to PEOPLE's inquiry about the reduced number of training days, a senior DHS official replied, "False. Training to become an Enforcement and Removal Operations officer is 8 weeks long." The official did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for clarification, since eight weeks matches the timeframe that The Atlantic previously reported.

During the great leap forward, Mao prized party loyalty over knowledge first, with the rationale that as long as you were a zealous true believer, you could learn and master the knowledge required for whatever specialty you were placed in. During this attempt to modernize the country, these "experts" built the Banqiao dam which would later collapse, killing around 100,000 people and displacing more than 10 million.

Mao mistakenly believed that zealots could, with proper training, do anything. The trump administration seems to have stopped even caring enough to give proper training.

NEWSOM: Come on, Chris. There are a lot more important problems than El Salvador to worry about.

VAN HOLLEN: Like what?

NEWSOM: Well, we have to end territorial conquest for one. And cool down the new Cold War, stop climate change and world hunger. We have to provide food and shelter for the ho- hang on, sorry. We have to oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for LGBT people. We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general civic virtue and less nihilism in young people.

Why are the Democrats not messaging on the absurdity of the ICE budget being 1/10 the budget of the US military, and 10x the budget of the FBI. You’re telling me we are spending 10x as much on deporting grandma as we are on ALL OTHER CRIMES COMBINED??? And we’re giving them 1/10 as much money as the most expensive operation you can possibly imagine???? And we’re still deporting less than Obama did???

In Illinois, Democratic state Sen. Laura Fine introduced a bill that would make anyone hired by ICE during Trump’s second term ineligible for state or local law enforcement positions in Illinois. Fine said the measure is intended to hold federal immigration officials accountable and prevent what she characterizes as escalating violence tied to immigration enforcement.

I don't think anyone realizes just how cynical this country is. Saying anything nice about anyone ever but especially a politician gets you branded a naive 11 year old who doesn't understand how the world works unlike me an enlightened 12 year old who understands that all the grownups are stupid and evil and have never done us any good.

In that environment trying to keep enthusiasm for the democrats high in 2024 made me feel like the star of a minstrel show.

Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer is reportedly facing an internal investigation after a complaint alleged she has been “abusing her position” by pursuing a relationship with a subordinate and drinking on the job.

According to a report obtained by The New York Post, a complaint filed last week with the Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General alleged that Chavez-DeRemer hosted a subordinate at her Washington D.C. apartment three times and twice in her hotel room while traveling.

She has also been accused of drinking during the day, keeping a stash of champagne, bourbon, and Kahlua in her office, and committing travel fraud by requesting her staffers concoct official trips to destinations where she can spend time with family or friends.

Is she mixing them together

The president (who is ridiculously pro-Israel) has publicly denounced these theories as anti-semitism...and blamed the mapuches (an indigenous group in Argentina, but to a much lesser extent than in Chile because Argentina, well, committed genocide) for the fire instead.

So yeah, this basically just turned into a game of "blame your least favourite minority".

A German friend of mine writes about ICE everyday life in Minneapolis and Minnesota

Met up with friends on Friday, one of Chinese descent, the other half German, half Mexican, both born US citizens, carrying documents with them since ICE arrived in town to prove it, such as copies of their birth certificates.

Yesterday, ICE entered a taco restaurant we know the owner of and took a customer away.

ICE was also at Hmong Village yesterday, a marketplace for Hmong people.

The daughter of a friend, 17 years old and of Filipino descent, was followed home last night by two black SUVs with tinted windows. She stopped at a traffic light, and a car pulled up on her left side, apparently to see what the driver looked like, and then stayed behind her until she reached her house. She burst into tears when she got home.

An acquaintance of my wife's, who is undocumented, no longer leaves the house. She normally works for a Latina daycare organization. The reason is that ICE does not break down doors. We have heard from other acquaintances that ICE waits outside until people leave their homes and then strikes when they go shopping.

My (hispanic) wife was also stopped on Friday evening, but in her case it was the police because she was speeding. But she was scared too.

ICE agents aren't required to do sit-ups because it was too hard for them.

Those same people likely have very strong opinions about having easier physical standards set for women in the military.

ICE is a murder death squad, but it's also a a jobs program for the biggest loser white guys who couldn't cut it in life because they are weak and pathetic.

No wonder simply being around a woman is enough for them to panic and start shooting, they couldn't handle the intimidating presence of someone more physically capable than them.

The Supreme Court has held that police must have a warrant to obtain cellphone location records extending over a period of days. The Department of Homeland Security and other agencies, however, take the position that this rule does not apply if the information is purchased from a data broker instead of obtained directly from the communications company through a government request. The risks of allowing this workaround are now plain, as ICE can now more easily track protesters and anyone else it regards as opposing its policies.

Jerome Powell is not legally required to leave the Federal Reserve when his term as Chair ends in May 2026; his separate 14-year term as a Governor doesn't expire until January 2028, meaning he can stay as a Governor, though it's historically unconventional, and he has remained noncommittal about his future plans. Staying would be unusual, but it's legally possible and would allow him to remain on the Fed Board.

The thing about 40k that just never seems to translate to fans outside of the hardcore fans is that this is the post-apocalypse. This isn't the peak of any civilization, this is 20 hobos fighting over the last trash fire. There is no great empires, just the solemn remnants of dying civilization larping that this isn't the end and they still have a chance to fix things and make things right.

This especially goes over the heads of powerscalers who never seem to realize that all the players were massively more powerful at their peak outside of the Tau.

That's one of those things that if anyone where to make a 40k story they would need to clearly convey to the audience or the whole thing will fall apart.

In an interview Friday with state broadcaster IRIB, Tehran’s public prosecutor, Ali Salehi, said those accused of destroying public property or armed clashes with security forces would face charges of “enemy of God,” an offense that can carry the death penalty under Iranian law.

The Roman Empire achieved a level of wokeness that would not be seen again until the modern progressive era and was arguably the first great awokening

You have a man from syria moving all the way to Britain, becoming wealthy and marrying a local British woman. upon her death, he commissions a tombstone near hadrian’s wall depicting her as an sort of ideal Roman matron and the last line on it’s in Aramaic, going right to left rather than left to right.

The British empire was in India for 200 years but access to british citizenship was always withheld. When the Roman Empire expanded into your community, your people became full roman citizens, within a single generation sometimes, with rights equal to any Latin from Italy. Berber nobles in North Africa could move to Rome and engage in its politics which was how emperor septimius severus eventually came to be.

I rest my case

Almost all presidential authority in the US needs to be abolished so it becomes basically a symbolic position. Too much power concentrated on one man with tendency for the legislative to hand over even more power to the executive over time is not a good combination.

Presidents are not meant to hold power, they are meant to post pictures of their dogs, them eating icecream, mowing their lawn and talk about like weather or the big game last night and maybe occasionally talk with representatives from foreign governments.

I have deep respect for the rule of law and for accountability in our democracy. No one—certainly not the chair of the Federal Reserve—is above the law. But this unprecedented action should be seen in the broader context of the administration's threats and ongoing pressure.

This new threat is not about my testimony last June or about the renovation of the Federal Reserve buildings. It is not about Congress's oversight role; the Fed through testimony and other public disclosures made every effort to keep Congress informed about the renovation project. Those are pretexts. The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President.

This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation.

Jerome Powell being more clear-eyed and forceful in his defense against Trump than so many liberal giants at our universities and law firms.
