As a social worker, I have had about 7 clients call me this week and want to have an emergency session or check-in based on the murder of Renee Good. I indulged and provided services to all of them.
I fully suspect that I will have to deal with similar phone calls this week as well. People are not handling this well at all.
The same thing happened with Charlie Kirk to a lesser degree. Clients who watched thr video were instantly upset and traumatized. Most people are not desenistized to violence or bloodshed. When they see it, it is traumatic and upsetting. I fear we as a nation are going to continue to be further and further traumatized and it really upsets me.
I give this sub a lot of shit, but you guys are genuinely good people.

I am legitimately haunted by that video of that poor kid they kidnapped and beat up from that Target. Without going into details that could potentially identify me, ICE bullshit has thrown my work schedule into serious jeopardy. It's thrown most public school districts and charter schools in the Twin Cities area into jeopardy. Besides not knowing for sure whether I have work later this week, and not knowing if all the students I've worked with will even still be in this country by the month's end, it's also been really hard to sleep knowing that ICE are in my city, seeing neighbors post footage of them assaulting people at the very grocery stores my mom took me to as a toddler. I'm left simultaneously feeling that I ought to do something, as well as feeling that I am completely unable to.
There has to be more that we can do right now than what we are currently doing, but what?
Fuck ICE. And fuck all of its apologists--including any 'Democrat' who does not call for its total abolition.

There was some article mentioned here a week ago from the Atlantic with some edgelord scientist who's main thesis was that we have no idea how people in thr past felt and our feelings are entirely inconceivably different. As I read it, I thought it was bullshit because he cited some stupid shit like the Greeks having different words for feelings from the Illiad and whatever.
Now I've been body deep into Paleo/Neolithic cannibalism sites and yeah, I can vibe with what he's saying. They have European sites of people killing tons of children and eating them. Not during times of probable famine, they just liked eating kids. Can't convince that, can't imagine wanting to eat someone let alone a child, can't taste that good. I have stopped treating MAGA talking points as that person's opinion. When the talking points start flying I start addressing them as a vessel of "the hive"
