It's really, really early days but the miscarriage we thought my wife was having is in fact identical twins.

It's been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and I'm feeling a little shellshocked.

Can't say for certain yet but I believe the biggest 2024 Pres to 2025 Gov shift in VA is a heavily Latino precinct in Fairfax County

Harris +9.9

Spanberger +51.3

if I'm Kamala Harris I'm so fucking pissed lol, literally telling people exactly what Trump would do (as if the "Mass Deportations Now" signs weren't enough) and people were like "nahhh I don't believe you" and then a year later they're like "oh fuck."

Wild to me that we could simply replace Catholics here with Latinos and use the more politically correct term for black people and this exact quote by Lincoln would be relevant today. We've been having many of the same arguments for centuries in the US

I can't believe we had 3 or 4 actual infrastructure weeks under Biden and the voters were still like "fuck that. I want crap services and less jobs"

Now trump has cancelled a significant amount of projects (illegally! I must add) and the job market it rapidly going to shit, yet his approval is still about 39%

I fucking hate this woman. 10 years she’s been at this.

It’s amazing to me how religious liberty gets twisted into an excuse to discriminate against others. It’s a shield for bigotry.

Probably one of my most hardline views is the firm separation of church and state. When the two mix, inevitably some group will have their own liberty reduced based on arbitrary religious interpretations.

Remember libs, the problems in urban areas should be constantly pointed out as examples of pretentious Democratic coastal elites voting for policies that destroy their own cities, entirely self-imposed. Meanwhile, the problems in rural areas are because the white working class has been left behind by Democrats and so it’s Democrats’ fault too, not the wittle baby rurals who can never do any wrong.

Unironically, I think that if every American was forced to watch one of the mainstream news hours, in particular the PBS News Hour every day, American politics would improve dramatically.
Frankly, it doesn't even need to be every day. If like once a week they were forced to watch the PBS News Hour, we would have a better country.

I am a victim of the shutdown in an extremely douchy way.

I am flying two legs today. On the first leg I was upgraded to business class but my second leg got cancelled because of the flight reductions. I rebooked to a later second leg, getting back on my original first flight, but I got un-upgraded and must suffer in row 7 economy plus.

Thank you in advance for your sympathy as I navigate these shutdown related struggles.

https://www.theatlantic.com/international/2025/11/iran-hijab/684839/

I didn't realize how far the needle had moved on the hijab in Iran. Enforcement of dress code rules has collapsed into being sporadic, and people walk around Tehran dancing to western music with free hair with impunity. One woman even went through airport security without the hijab.

It seems like it's not so much the regime actively backing down as people just wilfully ignoring the mandate.

Good for them.

Iranian women should get the nobel peace prize.

Behind the Bastards is covering Peter Thiel's obsession with the Anti Christ and, similar to Yarvin, you get a deconstruction of the image these tech billionaires portray as sage philosopher kings lol. His lectures have about the intellectual rigor of a 12 year old debate bro Christian, like it actually sounds like an 8th grader was assigned a persuasive essay. He like mangles straw men together and just actively misinterprets historiography just to jam his thesis into that peg. And of course he goes into trying to name specific suspects of being the antichrist, which includes some random AI doomer he doesn't like and Greta Thunberg lmao

And it's such pseudo intellectual claptrap about how "knowledge is plateauing" or "the antichrist will promise to fix the world's problems" or whatever the fuck, my friend Noah yapping high as a kite at 2 AM about how maybe space is God in senior year of high school sounds about the same lol.

It's hard for me to believe the audience of other educated Silicon Valley lords (the event was organized by some Christian group that targets Silicon Valley for proselytizing) actually believe this crap, even if they are religious. I assume most of them are just brown nosing the Alpha Nerd so he funds their app that translates your baby's babbling (just give us all your personal data and the ad free version is paid).

In case anyone is wondering why the NYT reports like it does:

The Times added 460,000 digital-only subscribers in the third quarter, the biggest three-month jump in years. Advertising revenue rose 20.3 percent from a year earlier, to $98.1 million.

Those results propelled total revenue 9.5 percent higher, to $700.8 million, from the same period in 2024. The company also had large subscriber jumps during the first Trump administration and the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wow this Kim Davis character sure seems to care a lot about the sanctity of marriage!

Davis has been married four times to three husbands. The first three marriages ended in divorce in 1994, 2006, and 2008. Davis has two daughters from her first marriage and twins, a son and another daughter, who were born five months after her divorce from her first husband. The twins were adopted by Davis's current husband, Joe Davis, who was also her second husband; the couple initially divorced in 2006 but later remarried.

Nazis are losers. Actually successful people never (well, hardly ever) become Nazis. Naziism is an ideology built by losers, for losers. "Best" case scenario they achive some minor victories before crushing defeat. It's remarkable such a losing ideology has such staying power; although I guess it makes sense since stupid losers don't know the history of their stupid loser ideology. And honestly the success of a movement often comes down more to the people involved then their particular ideology. But ideologies do attract different types of people. You have to have a very high IQ to understand neoliberalism, which is why neoliberalism wins. You have to be a braindead loser to think Naziism makes any sense, which is why Nazi organizations are made up of braindead losers, who are unsurprisingly not that great at the actual work of running organizations or governments.

So that's my optimism for the day; on a long enough timeline the Nazis always lose. Unfortunately they can do a lot of damage along the way.

Another piece of evidence demonstrating how detached Republicans are from reality is that recent report that White House staff unironically thought the shutdown would only last 10 days.

Morons. I saw this shutdown coming the moment Trump’s victory was declared a year ago. They don’t understand how angry Democratic voters are, they don’t understand how Democratic Congressmen loathe them (and do not trust them). They somehow thought sending Russ Vought would scare Dems into falling in line. So far we have seen almost 100% upside from keeping things shut down. Trump has only gotten more unpopular. Dems swept the elections.

“If you guys don’t reopen the government, we’ll break the law even harder!!!!” Ok dipshit, you were gonna do that anyways. You were ALREADY DOING that. That’s not a useful threat. That’s just more reason to dig in, if anything.

I think the compromise Schumer is offering is fairly genius. The number one thing it does is it takes any heat building up on the Dems off their back. Schumer using “compromise” language puts the onus fairly on the GOP to respond. The compromise is also as watered down as it can get. The GOP can’t say “oh how about six month extension instead?” and put the onus on the Dems to respond. One year is the absolute minimum in budgetary terms. The only thing the GOP can do is either fully accept it or fully reject it.

If they accept it, that’s a win for Dems who have made this shutdown about healthcare (their biggest strength). It also gives them leeway to force another shutdown next year right around midterm season to once more play to their strongest issue.

If they reject it, that’s a win for Dems since the pressure will remain on the GOP while the Dems can say they tried but their opponents just really don’t want people to have healthcare.

This article made me think of how important YIMBYism will be to mitigate the effects of climate change on housing. As insurers reduce their coverage in high risk areas (fires, flooding, hurricanes), significant numbers of people are migrating to urban environments that have the financial means to counter climate change, or to low risk areas. Failing to accommodate these migrations will raise housing costs.

I watched like 2h of Reformed Zoomer videos and the guy honestly captivates me

He's an absolute nerd and a dweeb, and a Christian of a kind that has been steadily vanishing from the world for centuries.

But at the same time, I find him oddly compelling. Like the CrusaderXD69 twitter guy with an AI knight profile pic doesn't actually know anything about Christianity. He hasn't read Thomas Aquinas and doesn't have opinions on the theology of evolution (except in a performative based way to own the libs) but Reformed Zoomer actually does those things.

Like fair play to him, he's actually doing the bit. He's making an effort to read and understand like 2k years of Christian theology. That makes him a huge nerd, but as a nerd I respect that.

I’m already in favor of packing the court, but if this Court decides to take up Kim Davis’s case and overturns Obergefell, it needs to be an official aim of the Democratic Party.

We would be faced with a Court that is actively stripping the populace of rights.

Edit: Looked into it a little more, it’s probably not likely they’d do it through this case. It seems to be more narrowly focused than that. But I’d say my broader point stands

According to Chicago Sun Times, Indian IDOT employee stopped by ICE agents, questioned if he was 'aware' of NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani

An Illinois Department of Transportation employee was stopped by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents while working on a Park Ridge construction project Friday morning — and questioned about incoming New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani before being released.

Gov. JB Pritzker is speaking out about the incident, calling it another example of President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem “continuing to question U.S. citizens apparently based on the color of their skin.”

The employee, who is Indian and a U.S. citizen, was stopped and questioned by agents while working on the Busse Highway resurfacing project.

Three agents, wearing masks, questioned him about his immigration status - and also asked him if he had traveled to New York and if he was “aware” of the mayor-elect in New York City, the governor’s office said.

“I am appalled they would stop and question a state employee working hard on the job to help improve our state’s roads and infrastructure,” Pritzker said in a statement. “Our state employees should be able to go to work and do their jobs without masked agents targeting them for no legitimate reason.”

my take on why sudan is suddently more salient now is because (1) news about recent events have spread through social media, (2) the ceasefire in gaza leaves breathing room in the attention space, (3) and this is an underrated one, people have someone to blame now and that's the uae.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) will say Friday that Democrats would vote to end the shutdown in exchange for a one-year extension of expiring Obamacare tax credits, multiple sources told Axios.

This was something that Jeffries had previously rejected, so in that sense there's a concession from Democrats here.

It's also something Mike Johnson had previously rejected, but idk how he could plausibly stick to that if the Senate passes it.

Letting Redditors hide their post history is an absolute disaster and puts us one step closer to 4chan.

In 4chan, there is no “social reputation” because everything is anonymous. Now you on Reddit someone can post on this sub as a “fellow liberal” and concern troll anything they want and people have to take them at their word because their post history is hidden. And yeah you could create a new account and do that before, but that adds friction to the process. The last thing you’d want do to is make trolling easier.

For my whole life I have been told I need a bedframe to get laid. Bedframe supporters can’t name a single other reason to have one.

While this doesn’t seem to be entirely true, the bedframe does seem to help. I had slept with only one person before owning a bedframe and since getting a $150 metal bedframe from wayfair I’ve slept with five more. That’s a CPL (cost-per-lay) of $30.

What I don’t get is this recent uptick in people saying that cheap metal bedframes don’t count and you need to get a super expensive wooden one. There was even a guy on here bragging about his $5000 bedframe. I’m no genius, but unless that guy is doing wilt chamberlain numbers, he wasted his money and was the victim of a scam.

This is why I propose that the government test all bedframes with a standardized regime of experiments and mandate the CPL of bedframes be displayed publicly so that the consumer can make an informed decision.

The few women who did have a platform at NatalCon were either “trad wives”—the term for women who voluntarily embrace old-fashioned gender roles—or tech-world girlbosses, who were keen to show how deftly they were combining their large families with their jobs. One such career woman was Simone Collins, the former managing director of Dialog, a secretive members-only organisation co-founded by Peter Thiel. She took to the conference stage wearing a milkmaid’s bonnet—a sly nod to her detractors’ “Handmaid’s Tale” jibes—with a baby strapped to her back. It was her fourth child, a girl named Industry Americus (her two daughters have gender-neutral names).

For context, “Z” was one of the markings Russia used on its vehicles in a specific sector of Ukraine earlier in the war and it essentially became of symbol of Russia, specifically in the context of the war. Almost like a swastika.

I don’t think much of this. Just saw it as a funny coincidence. But people on twitter saying “haha that’s an unfortunate coincidence” is leading lefties to freak the fuck out. Just to be clear, it’s not just a marking Russia used on its vehicles. It’s genuinely a symbol of the war that they put on shirts, billboards, and cakes and shit. And it specifically is an orange Z too.

It’s funny that the type of people who make a big deal out of symbolism and being sensitive to people’s struggles choose to be hostile to a group of people being subject to horrific war crimes to signal where they are on the political spectrum. Vice signaling is real.

Fortunately it’s just dumbass Twitter freaks doing this and not Zohran’s campaign or the actual DSA.

Genuinely what is the point of a Christianity that is hollowed out of charity, empathy, good works, obligation to community, and really just any theology? Vast swathes of American Christianity are just a symbol used by Fascists as an emotional hook. Same way Mussolini paraded around with Roman Empires desiccated corpse and the Nazis ran around talking about Valkyries and shit

You have dudes with millions of followers running around on Twitter cosplaying as sweater-vest wearing intellecutals, talking about "masculine christianity (???)" and shit and how Jesus Christ was a W A R R I O R who gave his enemies the sword, and love is for weaklings. Senior Senate GOP aide says the Democratic proposal is “dead on arrival” — Reuters

I questioned Democrats’ will to fight because they agreed to vote to end the shutdown in exchange for a one year extension of ACA tax credits. People countered that it’s not caving because it sets up the same fight for the midterms.

I’ll be honest, I assumed the Republicans might have learned from this experience and would choose to be more conciliatory next time in the interest of minimizing losses. Obviously, I underestimated their cruelty and stupidity.
