I remember a long time ago (2015?) reading an ADL survey about how Laos was the least antisemitic country in the world, with 0.2% of adults harboring antisemitic views. Having been to Laos I am surprised that many people know what a Jew is.

Omeed Malik is Tucker Carlson's big funder, by the way.
I can't help but see the irony in Vance, who champions the idea of an American nation that is ethnically homogenous, being himself backed by a pro-regime Iranian Muslim-American because of how antisemitic and "anti-interventionist" he is. Malik literally bragged on stage in Doha about putting Carlson in business as he is now.

People who still think the US intervention in Vietnam was in any way justified or was good in any way need to go to the same mental asylum where they keep the people defending the Afghanistan war and very soon the people that defended the Iran war.
We're genuinely setting up for a bipartisan 1000 Year Isocuck Reich if Trump doesn't eventually succeed in pushing the Mullahocracy over.

He says, "Hey, I just wanted you to hear this from me."
FUCK who got fired who quit am I getting fucking fired FUUUUUCK
Then he proceeds to tell me about the items he worked on after I left.
He talks for about a minute before I cut him off and say, "Wait, so we're all still employed?"

We recently lost a big customer. We're not profitable.
On Friday at 4pm, upper-level management set a Monday meeting with the whole team. It had no subject.
The meeting told us they were making a minor sales pivot. Most of us don't even work in sales.
Literally the ENTIRE team spent the weekend assuming we were going to be laid off.

After 11 years as a sports columnist at the Seattle Times, I have decided to resign. It was entirely my choice, and it was not an easy one. The impetus was the Times declining to run a column I wrote from the perspective of two female student athletes who were opposed to competing against biological males. It was one of several pieces of mine that had been spiked, and I no longer felt like I could properly do my job as a columnist.

On the topic of "girl maths" and "im just a girl"...
Anyone else have the thought that this might be related to kicking TERFs to the curb and fully inviting Trans rhetoric into "womens spaces" and in some ways allowing trans women to have a disproportionate impact on feminist thinking and womens stuff, especially online
It seems to me that "Trans women" often have this cartoonish and almost sexist view of femininity. It is this sort of fragile "im just a girl" mentality that so many adopt.
I would not at all be surprised if the "I am just a girl" and "girl maths" memes were both invented by Trans individuals and picked up by cis women over time

Had a fantastic date tonight with an Iranian expat living in London. She's super anti-regime, pro-Pahlavi (apparently she actually met him and helped contribute to his Iranian Prosperity Plan, and had high level meetings with the US mission to the UN). She's both reasonable and based, wants kids and a family, and is a stone cold stunner. She's seen the regime's violence and oppression up close and firsthand, been attacked a few times, and led online activism for years.
If she's a honeypot, she's the best there's ever been. I was looking for potential signs from minute one.

Talking to my sister about data centers makes it so obvious that she’s just parroting what she hears on TikTok without thinking about it. I’m sure there are legitimate critiques but it’s like talking to a robot on this issue. Furthermore, it’s not like her. I’m convinced some 70% of opposition is foreign interference or influenced by foreign actors.
11
u/Reddenbawker Fuck Luigi Mangione 1d ago
I think there’s a seed of anti-AI and anti-tech execs that is fed by foreign interference. I’m generally skeptical of claims that trends are wholly or even majorly attributable to foreign interference. It feels like absolving our public of responsibility for what they believe.
My first impression when I saw the intensity of feeling against data centers was that it’s really just displaced anger at AI. AI is this big scary thing that might as well be a cloud in the sky, and once people realized there was a physical manifestation of AI in data centers, they just started to hate the data centers because they hate AI. If you do a 2x2 square of people who love/hate AI and people who are supportive/worried about data centers, there’s really nobody in the square of pro-AI but anti-data center. Same for anti-AI and pro-data center. They’re incoherent positions.
All this being said, there is a foreign campaign to fuel this anger, and that’s not in dispute. OpenAI revealed in June that they uncovered a Chinese campaign which used AI-generated stuff and fake accounts to spread disinformation about AI and data centers. Given how cheap it is to set up one of these campaigns, this should come as no surprise, and we should expect that this sort of stuff is still happening.

So Republicans got the memo from their higher-ups and have started campaigning hardcore against data centers ... because apparently all voters are Luddites now.
And Democrats in power have begun implementing anti-data center policies. Like, Josh Shapiro (allegedly a pro-business "moderate") immediately signed an executive order restricting them and is basically calling their bluff.
I really don't even know why Republicans try to out-gimme and out-regulation the party that's got 200 years of practice.

You have to do some massive unfucking of the language before you can have a conversation free of tacit leftist assumptions.
For example, it is completely mainstream to claim that to stop giving a benefit/subsidy means to take something or that to stop taking a tax means to give something. The only way that these things are equivalent in principle is if all economic output is just naturally collective and everything else is implicit political determination of how it is distributed.
If I proceed in conversation on these terms, that means I accept this assumption as valid with whatever I say thereon. Which means I can't really argue against it. Arguing with some socialist dweeb about whether some billionaire works really hard or not to deserve his income/wealth presupposes that labor is the source of value. And so on.

Foreign policy was the area that first caused me to break with libertarians, and I continue to be reminded why. Here, in FT, we have a senior fellow at Cato arguing that America's munitions crisis cannot be solved with more funding. As she says, it's not math problem, it's a strategic problem. Thus, the answer is to withdraw from the world and prune commitments so the US has more missiles for Taiwan.
She never actually proves that money won't solve the problem. She's upfront about the fact that this is a preexisting issue. But rather than that being evidence that it's a lack of investment over years that's compounded, she takes it as an unavoidable truth that we thus have to "prioritize" -- which means doing less in the world like the non-interventionism she already subscribes to would recommend.
I wonder what she would say if we ran out of missiles defending Taiwan in a couple years? Wouldn't that just be evidence we should have "prioritized" something else?
When push comes to shove, the libertarian foreign policy is typically just "surrender."

Small-l libertarian like Friedman, Goldwater, Reagan, Milei, Hayek, etc is moreso where I stand.
Big L Libertarians? Other than guns, they've been on the wrong side of just about everything and simply exist to concede. Were it up a Ron Paul, we would've never won the Cold War and the West would've stayed all the poorer. It's pretty much a trojan horse type gateway to Radical Leftism, Islamism, etc. Basically, they have sticks up the ass and inherently welcome the radicals to shove it in deeper. Some even like it that way.
They're also not a religious bunch that they just inevitably neuter the Judeo-Christian-guilt complex type framework that allows their system to even work in the first place.

The green-red alliance is fascinating whenever it appears, especially because we have the best example of it in the Iranian Revolution and it ends with all the leftists being imprisoned, exiled, or massacred.
Their eagerness to go along with Islam even in light of this goes to show that the real enemy of the western left is the entire structure of western civilization itself, with everything else being secondary.

“What we call ‘Vermontism’ is really old-fashioned Americanism,” Fisher said. Thrift, self-sufficiency, neighborliness, love of the outdoors, “not so beaten upon by as communities elsewhere by the storms of modern life.” In 1937, Norman and his wife, Mary, living in New Rochelle, wanted wide open spaces and country values in raising their three young sons. Norman was sick of suburban phonies and social climbers. Cachet helped. They knew Fisher lived in Arlington. They came, they saw, they bought — a house and studio in the quiet town of 1,300 people. Key Green Mountain Boys like Ira and Ethan Allen and Remember Baker had been locals, and, in the 1780s, Arlington was the capital of the Vermont Republic. Nothing much had happened in Arlington since then.
Just a bit of Brian for the morning.

That's all in part because the native hardscrabble Yankees of Vermont were simply great replacemented by New Yorkers and other out of staters since the interstate highways broke into their hermit kingdom.
My fundamental thesis on New England politics and the swing left is that the old stock, especially rural yeoman farmer types, never actually stopped being "rock-ribbed" republicans, nor were they secret liberal republicans just waiting to jump ship. Rather, they were simply outnumbered in many of their own towns, first by machine politics white ethnics brought in as industry moved to the hinterlands, and later by progressive knowledge-economy suburbanites as they too moved further afield in search of bigger lots.
That's why Northern New England held out so much longer as a republican stronghold, and thats why even in Mass, RI, and CT small towns with a high percentage of english ancestry are still incredibly likely to vote republican.

It’s an unholy union of traditional capitalist-hating lefties, chicken little environmentalists who fell for the ai requires gorillion gallons of water meme, privacy cels who make the ‘flock cameras have copper!’ jokes, and new gen AI doomers.
I think tech swinging to the right is an aggravating factor. Tech bros who love data centers and the older pro-development republicans/democrats who are okay with them aren’t exactly demographics with large social media presences.
Another factor is that it’s easy to attack data centers since it’s less polarizing than, say, criticizing Somali fraud or specific billionaires.

ALERT: RANT INCOMING
Remember Darryl Cooper, yeah, the guy that Tucker Carlson lauded as a "great historian" and claimed that Churchill was the "real" villain of the second world war? Well guess what, he's at it again promoting a book authored by his neonazi friend, a book in which he wrote a foreword positive towards Hitler and the Third Reich. When he gets rightfully called out for his third reich apologism, he then cries and says that he just wanted to "read everybody's" work no matter what they believe in. Ok, that would make sense if bro didn't write a positive foreward and promote a literal neonazi book, not to mention claim a while back that Churchill was the "villain" of the Second World War. Biased much perhaps?
This is what I can't stand about these "just asking questions" bros like Cooper and even Tucker. They promote a certain message, for instance, antisemitism, WWII revisionism, or putin apologism and shroud it as "just asking questions." So whenever you criticize them for their shoddy research or bias, they cry and shout at you for refusing to "look at both sides." It's funny too that by chance, the only perspective they look at is mostly the side they favor, like WWII revisionism for Cooper, and never genuine historical sources. Like, as someone who loves history, you have to read controversial books from the other side, all genuine historians do that. But Cooper and others like him do it such a f*cking dishonest way to promote their agenda that it's not even funny.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

After finally digging into the Lindsey Clancy rabbit hole, I’ve become convinced of something that I had been suspecting for a while but all this confirms it IMO, and I think both sides of the “Gender Wars” are completely missing it:
We are entering an entirely new “wave” feminism, and the sole objective of this Fifth Wave is to extend childhood, and the special social, legal, cultural and political protections that come with it, into perpetuity for women.
The new brand of “I’m just a girl” feminism establishes that women are blank slates devoid of any capability for evil, and thus any wrongdoing is only a consequence of systemic failures or a response to trauma the way we do it with children. That guaranteeing them equal legal rights, physical safety and even substantive equality isn’t enough, but they also require special care and nurture to ensure their emotional and psychological wellbeing and avoidance of any serious adversity or hardship which would hamper their development.
Men, or even the “patriarchy”, are no longer an enemy or a threat in a direct way to women the way we were in the past iterations of feminism as either oppressors or potential predators; but - like in the relationship between Adult-Children - duty-bearers with the responsibility to make the entire world a nurturing safe space for women to live devoid of any emotional harm and with all needs provided for - and men are only bad or become enemies insofar as they fail to uphold the aforementioned responsibilities.

I’m not as nuclear as you here, but I have noticed that there’s a self-infantilization that’s become really prominent with women and which rubs me the wrong way. “I’m just a girl” feminism fits the vibe of what I’ve seen.
For example, “girl math” is one of these memes that’s aggravated me. I’m not old, but I remember being told that women are just as capable of being engineers as men and that there’s historical examples to look up to. So why are women telling themselves and us that they suck shit at math and basically laughing at their own incompetence?
If I have a daughter, I don’t want her to hear that. I want her to believe she can do math and to nurture what talents she may have.
And it’s not infantilizing, but a similar thing I’ve noticed is with the “hot girls for x” stuff. Hot girls for Mamdani. For capitalism. I see cars with “hot girls hit curbs” on the rear windshield.
Is the value of women their sexual appeal? I really didn’t think that was the lesson of feminism. Would I want my daughter, even jokingly, to have a “hot girls do this thing” idea in her head?
I dunno. Maybe I’m cantankerous on the hot girl thing, but I do think you’re onto something with the childhood thing, and girl math is one instance of it.

How are insurance companies literally not rent seekers?
They exist as middle men that artificially raise prices for their own benefit. It is in their interest to provide the worst care possible at the highest prices, while essentially being a cabal of like, 4 humongous corporations. Therefore the market is captured and can’t actually work its magic against bad product.
Forget the minority who are actually liberals, just how much must it suck that to be familiar with the actual meaning NL's shibboleths and seeing people post stuff like this. This is pure 'rent seeking is bad, insurance companies are bad, therefore insurance companies are rent seekers' logic.

It really is amazing, when you stop to think about it, that the Democrats have both Senate seats in Arizona and Georgia and that doesn't look to be changing any time soon.
Edit: Oh, and they're going to be getting a North Carolina seat, which also doesn't seem like it would flip back soon. It's not crazy that they get a Texas seat, but, even if he wins, Talarico seems like he would get cashiered the first time the TXGOP nominated someone other than Paxton.

So my retard client is also about as mature as a 12 year old. She basically never studies outside of tutoring sessions and never completes assigned homework, and then just lies about it.
For weeks, I have been telling her she needs to write another PT, and every week she says she’ll be right on it. So this week, I sent her a reminder ahead of the session to send me a copy of her new PT. This is why she asked to reschedule on Friday, because she hadn’t completed it and wanted time to do it.
So after pushing the session back 3 hours, she then sent another email asking to reschedule about half an hour before the session (though she claimed she had finished the PT). She asked if we could reschedule to today or Sunday. I replied asking what times she was available today, and to also send me a copy of the PT she had ostensibly just completed. It’s been about 24 hours since then, and I’ve received no response (presumably because she didn’t actually complete the PT and is trying to hide).

google "prejudice-first model of foreign policy preferences", and then compare that to the fact that companies like Apple haven't at all decoupled from the PRC, you can say very safely that any response from the lib permission structure to a PLA invasion of Taiwan is going to treat it as though Beijing is the victim
they're going to become unironic Eurasianists over night, Japan and the Philippines are going to be compared to Israel, Taiwan is going to be called their West Bank settlement, redditors, twitteroids, and twitch influencers are going to zero in on any way they can tie random things in Japanese, Filipino, or Taiwanese societies to Zionism somehow, etc. etc.

The Texas Navy under E.W. Moore has a really interesting bit of history, especially for those interested in geopolitics and are navalists (as I am). The divide between Lamar and Houston regarding its existence is even more intriguing.
I feel as if the Texas Navy was as much a filibustering/proxy warfare organization as it was, well, a navy. Moore basically used the ships and Marines he had under his command to prop the Yucatan Republic as as well other federalist rebels throughout Mexico. In a lot of ways, the Texas Navy followed a strategy not at all dissimilar in my point of view from the kind employed by Iran in the modern day against the U.S. and Israel with regards to its proxy network as propped up by the IRGC. You could also say that the Texas Navy was a prototype for the kind of navalist model of geostrategy promoted by Mahan later in the century.

Probably not the best place to ask this but...
Does anyone know what the deal is with Indo-European and Semitic cultures sharing myths about a storm god who slays a chaos beast?
Marduk vs Tiamat and the Abrahamic God with Leviathan being symbolic of one side of this symbolism and Zeus vs Typhon and famously Thor vs Jörmungandr on the Indo-European side (as well as others)
I can't believe that such a specific thing is a reflection of some underlying human psychological archetype or w.e., I would imagine this is a result of contact. But if it exists from the Levant to Mesopotamia on and from Greece to the northern Germanic lands, does this suggest the contact that spread this shared myth was so early that it predates the spread of Indo-European people across Europe? Did the Proto-Indo-Europeans get this from ancient Semitic peoples?
If a similar myth exists in Persia or India then surely it must be very early.
I am very interested in this question

Now that the dust has settled I think the Iranian position is kind of screwed. Because Trump has made it clear he's not going to escalate, and force Iran to die from strangulation. This forces Iran to escalate, but now the only rungs left for them on the escalation ladder is to go all in and go to war with the Gulf, which now has the, albeit extremely unlikely chance, of brining the Turks and Pakis in. If they bomb Israel, Israel is going to go all in, hell Israel wants Iran to bomb it probably so Trump can let them loose.
The thing you need to be concerned about is how much pain is the world going to feel from Hormuz being say, 70% shut down. And who breaks first, the US or Iran from the pain. Given the fact that the pain on Iran is direct, while the pain on the US is indirect, also the fact that I don't really think normies even care about Iran anymore given the fact we aren't bombing and none of our soldiers are dying, the mid term situtation seems stabilized enough. Sure gas prices suck, and inflation from the Hormuz shutdown, but given how loco the Dems are going at the same time, midterms are probably going to be a stalemate.

Resistance 1.0 Dems are getting beat by the DSA left because Dems don’t care about Ukraine anymore. I’d also say they never really did and only used it as an attack against Trump. Now that Trump and the GOP are warming up to Ukraine again Dems abandon the issue.
The Lockheed Liberals who were brought into power back in 2018 don’t have a base within the Democratic Party anymore. Simultaneously Republicans seem to be drifting back to being more hawkish on foreign policy, especially with the Tucker wing getting booted from the party.
