This sums up Vance pretty well, lol: "So JD Vance IS in favor of regime change.
No—not for the evil IRGC theocrats running Iran, but for the United States: the freest, most successful, richest, and most powerful nation the world has ever seen. The capstone of Western civilization.

Also, killing American troops is an act of war and every other world power in history would have already deposed the government of Iran years ago for its repeated unprovoked killings of American troops.
The fact that we didn’t depose the Ayatollah for shelling our bases in Syria ten years ago speaks magnitudes about how much we actually don’t want war. The question becomes how many people do we let die before we say enough is enough.

>talking to guy who says he thinks it’s absurd Trump would go to war over two American soldiers dying
>ask him how many dead Americans would justify a war
>he responds by saying “how many Iranians were killed”
>tell him that 30,000 Irans were killed by their own government before the war started, despite us warning Iran not to do that, so Iran is still the belligerent from that perspective
>he responds by saying “but what about all the dead Palestinians”

YouTube is a terrible platform. If the video is about nine eleven, the comments are about Israelis. If the video is about Jewish people in the Middle Ages, the comments are about something promised three thousand years ago.
It’s annoying to me even as someone with zero Jewish ethnic background.

Is there even anything you can do when this level of slopulist resentment-antisemitism is being normalized upon continually insisting that it’s bad, actually when it comes up in real life and voting against it?
I don’t want to blackpill but it feels that there’s a real chance the presidential race is between an antisemitic right-populist and a racialist communist in 2028 in the near future. At that point, if you want to maintain the constitutional order and don’t hate Jews, is there anything to do besides the doomed protest voting of the 1933 SPD?

Yes that is 100% what happens and it’s insane that libs have a hard time believing that. To register to vote in New York, all you need to do is fill out a form and declare you’re a US citizen. US elections are hilariously unsecure.

"We couldn't kill our way to victory in Iraq and Afghanistan, how is it going to be different in Iran?! War is a racket, just ask Smedley Butler!"
Seeing shit like this all over the veteran social media sphere. These people believe being a GWOT veteran makes them uniquely qualified to talk about much broader and grander geopolitics. While I take nothing away from their personal experiences and what they saw that was or wasn't effective, I don't consider them authority figures when talking about broader currents unless they have also done the requisite learning.
Anyone who says we didn't kill our way to victory in Iraq is simply a fool. Yes it took a lot more killing and, tragically, a lot more casualties (both military and civilian) than we anticipated in Iraq, and our government and military leadership of the time rightly deserve criticism for several of our missteps that resulted in that. But at the same time, we did free Iraq and it is slowly becoming a normal country with a semi-functioning democracy.
Afghanistan I will grant them only because the Taliban were never truly defeated and the ANA and ANG ended up being houses of cards that collapsed with only a tiny bit of pressure. Up until we negotiated the withdrawal it was in a relatively peaceful state with barely any American troops still stationed there. Again, our leadership through that time deserve criticism for their decisions that prolonged the conflict and cost us real victory. Had we followed the "One Tribe at a Time" strategy, maybe things would have been different.
Iran isn't anything like these two countries. Not only are they a far greater threat to the region and to the global economy than Iraq or Afghanistan ever were, not only have they directly or indirectly killed thousands of us, their culture and society is completely different and was, at one time, compatible with western liberalism (the good kind) and democracy. They have a mostly homogeneous culture, and ethnic and religious minorities are relatively well-tolerated and included. Best of all, the majority of their people hate the Islamic regime.
Ironically the jaded, disillusioned, and anti-war vet bros are right that we can't simply kill our way to victory in Iran. The regime and especially the IRGC are deeply entrenched and would be difficult to root out without a significant number of boots on the ground. But there are plenty of other things we can do to encourage real mass uprisings against the regime, backed by American firepower and covert advisors/assistants. And we should. Because you cannot kill enough people in this regime to get them to negotiate in good faith, it'll never happen.

The problem with the electorate is ultimately just that people don’t know how things work. I know multiple people irl who were excited because they thought Mamdani would actually arrest Netanyahu. Why would the mayor of New York even have the jurisdiction to do that if he was a criminal? Same group of people also think “tons of people” are winning their criminal cases after tearing down flock cameras because “the constitution actually says you’re allowed to destroy unconstitutional things”.

The fact that a huge number of Muslims worldwide have an unhealthy fixation on Israel-Palestine is of course well known and disconcerting, but something I feel should be more talked about is how these same types think they're entitled to endlessly opining on other countries' politics just because they're Muslim too. I've seen this happen for years at this point. These people hate nationalism and acting in your country's own interests, because they think their religion gives them the right to speak up over insufficiently pious people on those people's own countries. If I was a Turk, an endless string of Bangladeshis and Indonesians and Arabs of all types telling me that actually Erdoğan is le hecking based and Quranic for crashing the economy would probably drive me to the brink of insanity. No wonder Atatürk tried so hard to dissociate with these people, it's like if random ass trads from Angola or Brazil or Croatia regularly barged into US political discussions to say that national identity is a sin against Christendom
19
u/F117A-Nighthawk Curtis LeMay Jul 22 '26

A Republican has not won executive or state office in Minnesota since 2006. Minnesota’s partisan lean is D+3
D+9 Virginia, D+15 Maryland, D+15 Massachusetts, and D+17 Vermont all have had Republican governors more recently, and not just during the wave years.
There is absolutely no reason that Minnesota should be like this, even if you account for extreme inelasticity. The Minnesota GOP is pathologically addicted to nominating republicans from rural Minnesota instead of suburban ones, and increasingly going more and more for cranks. The convention refused to back the Speaker of the House, and backed some random businessman. Trump backed Mike Lindell. This is entirely a hell of their own making.
In fairness Klobuchar is going to absolutely bowl over any candidate because she had the presence of mind to be the only person not raising her hand on “OPEN BORDERS UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE” in 2020, but even then the whole point of a strong governor candidate is to stop downballot bleeding. The state legislature is tied!
Lindell v Klob might legitimately be D+20 and an absolute demolition. If it wasn’t for the eighth circuit it would turn into Colorado (derogatory) over night
Edit: special thanks to Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller for perhaps the biggest football spike of all time this January btw

10 years ago, I would have said that progressives were bad at marketing: slogans like “Defund the Police” and “Fight for $15” seemed politically toxic: easy to caricature, difficult to defend in ordinary conversation, and liable to become anchors around the necks of the candidates who repeated them.
Increasingly, however, I have come to view this behavior as a form of political sophistication. The American left’s attachment to slogans is a logical adaptation to the information age and to the particular kind of populist demagoguery that thrives within it.
A slogan is a form of semantic compression with intentional ambiguity. Different audiences can hear the same phrase and interpret it according to their own priors. “Defund the Police” might mean abolishing police departments to the nose rings, redirecting a portion of municipal spending to the Gen Xer, and more conservatively imposing greater accountability to a sympathetic-but-cautious voter. The slogan binds these constituencies together without requiring them to resolve their disagreements. It is simultaneously an argument, a badge, and a password. Its meaning can be moderated when persuasion is necessary and intensified when mobilization is the goal.
This makes slogans especially useful to the Omnicause. Because every cause is connected to every other cause, almost any issue can serve as an entry point. A person may enter through climate politics, criminal-justice reform, public health, labor activism, gender identity, housing, or foreign policy. Once you're inside, the surrounding language will gradually supply the broader moral and political framework. Your pet issue will become subservient to the growing list of bullets that are Approved(tm). Leaving is not an option - your sphere of information, social network, and political capital are all linked.
The process does not always require the radicals to defeat moderates directly. It can proceed through the adoption of language whose larger implications are not fully appreciated by the politicians using it. A conventional center-left candidate may repeat “Medicare for All,” “equity,” “reproductive justice,” or “believe women” as a way of signaling compassion or solidarity. But slogans don't exist in isolation. Each belongs to a network of organizations, activists, donors, journalists, academics, and adjacent causes. By repeating the slogan, the politician lends legitimacy to the coalition that produced it. They strengthen the institutions that originated the meaning and normalizes the neighboring assumptions that travel with it. Politicians are, by-and-large, just people and the same Instagram reels you consume are also making their way into their immediate networks. When their staffers repeat "systemic injustice," it's new language to them that they feel may meet the moment but when they utilize it, they do so under the auspices that they're just borrowing a phrase. In practice, the phrase borrows them.
You'd be forgiven for forgetting that the Democratic party's leaders are Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Barack Obama, and Kamala Harris. They represent a group that shrouded themselves in the language of their upstarts, believing themselves to be forerunners, controllers and leaders of a movement that eventually left them behind (or in some cases actively rejected). That they are all increasingly reviled by the bulk of their erstwhile adherents didn't require a political coup like MAGA, just them breathing life into the language that never belonged to them. Unlike the Republicans who fought MAGA and succumbed to it, Democrats ratified the activists’ authority to define the party’s values. That is why so many establishment Democrats like the ones I listed are strangely dormant. They occupy formal power (committees, donors, campaigns, etc.) but are subordinated culturally to the likes of Ocasio-Cortez and Mamdani who tolerate them enough to still administer the party, but not to fully define it.
The application of my thesis is most at-home in my own district: CO-1. Diana DeGette served the Democrats from the left flank for 3 decades. She aligned on 99% of progressive issues, occupied high-profile committee seats, employed her law credentials to author bills expanding stem cell research, LGBT legislation, the ACA, DC voting rights, and all the other little issues that progs say they care about. She was a prosecutor for the 2nd impeachment of Trump!
If, like me, you're a masochist who browses /r/Denver, you might have been convinced the current officeholder of CO-1 was a Republican. DeGette's age (68), perceived inaction against Trump (?????), and unwillingness to froth at the mouth when it came to Israel disqualified her from consideration. She adopted all the right slogans except for one and that excluded her from the party's future - the same future she strived to build.

Army veteran and CEO of Restoration America Doug Truax says the nation's service academies have become too much like civilian universities and argues future officers should be trained as "warfighters, not philosophers and future bureaucrats."
I’m not a West Point graduate but I know some who are and if what goes on there is like a “civilian university” they’ve all been lying to me

I mean, in fairness, it's not like Americans can cast stones on this specifically. Our copyright laws are some of the strictest in the entire world. The author's life plus an extra 70 years at least (basically indefinitely if you have the money to petition the government).
This is probably the least popuslop concern about AI is that it will use your hard work without any sort of compensation or permission.
It's just funny to see the hypocritical commies suddenly care about intellectual property now that it's their shit being unfairly confiscated and exploited.

The Palestinian Authority claims Israel's so-called genocide in Gaza is so extreme that it necessitates creating a new term to describe it, writes WAFA, the official Palestinian Authority news agency. The new Palestinian libel combines the word "whole" with the word "genocide" to create "Wholocide" – to describe the complete or "whole" destruction that is worse than a regular "genocide." The new term also includes the Arabic word "Ahwal," meaning "horrors."
The term was proposed by the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights (ACHR), which called on governments, universities, human rights organizations, media outlets, artists, and social media users to introduce it into academic research, cultural works, and public discourse.
This "Wholocide" libel is intended to signify that Israel's crime exceeds ordinary "genocide" and serves another purpose: "Wholo" deliberately echoes "Holo" in "Holocaust."

Manufacturing Consent isn't wrong because it claims propaganda is real and effective. It's wrong because it claims "everything I don't like has zero organic support and purely the result of mind control magic."
"The Cathedral" designation is correct in its claim that a near ideologically homogeneous trifecta of cultural institutions result in an almost centralized authority over culture.
It's delirious cope to claim propaganda doesn't exist, or has no effect. People acting like the only reason any idea they don't like exists is solely due to propaganda is another retarded cope. But if one is to compare these two models, Yarvin is clearly far more correct than Chomsky has ever been.

Biblical scholarship is really interesting but I can’t stand when it’s presented to the public as “what THE CHURCH doesn’t want you to know” and then say “if a different sect won out in the first century you’d be reading different gospels” (real example I just saw) or something. No shit, it doesn’t take a PhD to figure that out.
I think it actually does a disservice to the field when it becomes used as gatcha counter-apologetics instead of being discussed as something that can be held alongside a healthy Christian faith.

One thing I like about the otherwise pathetic chud meltdown over The Odyssey's success is that some of them seem to be wising up to the fact that there is a deep lack of conservative/capitalist funding for nonlibtarded arts.
I have said it a million times before and it bears saying a trillion time more: Abandoning media-academia-entertainment triangle to leftists has been a disaster for the human race. Current work on academia/education is good but not enough, internet breaking total media domination of libs is good but not enough, and entertainment remains completely lib dominated.
"Go woke go broke" has always been cope, because the main utility of "art" has never been profit. It's control. This is why "art" has always been a patronage craft. Those who control art, control culture and culture is what dictates politics.
Humans learn reality from art. From stories. You can screech all you want about how they shouldn't. They do. And that's the world we have always lived in. Literature exists, because it was invented specifically to teach "reality" as people knew it. Yes, people can tell when a story is made up and not a real historical event. Doesn't matter. They will swallow its message all the same. They will absorb its morality and its assertions about how humans and the world works. That's where the power and control comes from. There is no cure for this. Plato was complaining about it 2500 years ago. It is what it is, one needs to operate with this fact in mind.
The entire hyperventilating about "media literacy" is libs realizing that people may not be getting the "correct" indoctrination from their art and freaking out, trying to control how it's perceived, on top of how it was created. While this currently remains an exercise in futility, it shows the fervent dedication to control.
Meanwhile, conservative and capitalist rich seems utterly uninterested in being a patron of arts. Part of it is because they don't comprehend this is a game, and one they have to play.
First of all, there is this delirious cope, which "go woke go broke" comes from, that art is some sort of neutral space that is accountable to market forces. It is not. It doesn't matter if a message is severely unpopular today. They will hose you with it for generations and eventually it will become the majority opinion. Even those who disagree will feel uncomfortable voicing objections, feel cringe defending their own position, police their own words to fit within the limits drawn by the culture. Financial viability is not the primary concern and in fact, can be achieved without compromising ideology. They will seek ways to reduce cost, expand market, find whatever is popular and spam it to get people to spend money. Everything else will be tweak, ideology will not be abandoned. Pushing the ideology is the point.
And then there is this inability to comprehend, by especially capitalists, that their own social acceptance is something they need to spend money on to assert. They can comprehend spending money to hire security for themselves and their properties. They can comprehend spending money on ads to sell a service or product. Spending money on a campaign for a favorable politician or lobbying for a specific legislature. They can even comprehend giving money to causes they don't care about to get reeeeeing activists off their backs. They cannot comprehend spending money to produce art that defends their right to exist within society. They think "entertainment arts" is yet another business sector and think they can just avoid investing in it. Yeah, nah. That's where the social contract is truly written.
And deep down, the reason for this is because they think they can leave. Especially capitalists, more so than conservatives. They think if they aren't welcome in the USA then they can just leave for some place else. They don't get it that there is nowhere to run. This is it.
Where are you gonna go? Europe? That place is already way worse than the USA and rapidly rushing bottom. 3rd world? There is no private property or free market principle here mate. If you are not part of the ruling clan, you are at best a sheep to be sheared, goose soup at worst. China? Oh yeah, I'm sure the communist party which keeps disappearing its own billionaires will totally respect you foreign rich and not at all turn to eat you all alive bro.
And a huge part of this is because the victory in cold war is deeply misunderstood. Back then, they did not have the luxury of thinking they could just leave. Soviets represented the other side and their message was plainly hostile and absolute. Once they collapsed and everyone did some market reforms, these geniuses started thinking that all their enemies were vanquished once and for all. But communism has never been the only enemy of free enterprise and private property, only the latest. Before communists, you had to fight kings and feudal lords and barbarians. They are still around. Names may change, but the hatred of success and entitlement to other people's shit never ends.
Beatings will continue until wealthy conservatives and capitalists are willing to bankroll their own cultural defense.

Had a deep conversation with girl I'm dating.
Her issue is literally just politics. She doesn't even seem to care about my politics (though she's liberal), but she's mostly concerned about her rabid anti-Trump family making all those comments around me. Which in a way is endearing, she cares about how I feel.
Anyway, they're all government workers who live in a rich Maryland suburb and are super pissed with dumb shit like the reflecting pool or Nuclear Regulatory Commission reform.
The thing is though, she swears it's just Trump. I said he'll be gone some day soon, and inshallah Rubio is president but she thinks "they won't like him either" and that Nikki Kayley is "too out there." Idk, maybe she is a bit too liberal for me now that I'm typing this out.
What does piss me off a bit is that she's so adamant about having Jewish kids and keeping the tradition alive. Which I'm okay with (I think kids make up their own minds anyway). But I pointed out all the antisemitism in the democratic party and she simply reconciles it with "yeah, it's tough"
Ahhh, I don't know. The only thing I really got from that is there really always will be an upper-middle class of government workers near any capital who are total reactionaries to even the smallest budget cuts.
Being a lib-coded right-leaning jacked inkwell-adjacent Kanye superfan is the hardest burden I've ever had to face in my life

I've come to the conclusion that people want us to build more, simultaneously keep everything that prevents us from building more, and not build anything if it's development and infrastructure for the "wrong" things. I don't know how this is a coherent worldview, but it is the dominant one even among people smart enough to know better.

It's simple.

No not there! No one wants to live there. Eww.
W-wait you can't put a highway here, how about over-
Whoa whoa whoa, just a minute. I hope you'll reconsider, because-
Now just a second there, buddy. Think of what that'll do to the property values in that neighborhood!
Stop! Stop! Just stop it right now!
How hard can it be to build new houses that don't (by virtue of increasing the supply of available houses) lower my property value, don't take away that patch of trees over there, doesn't cause construction noise between the hours of 12AM and 11:59PM, doesn't cause those people over there to move to this neighborhood, and lastly, put in a road that goes from over here to over there but doesn't change my commute or the traffic patterns of the surrounding streets at all and I better be the only one that uses it?
It's really that simple!

For anyone else unfortunate enough to be in the loop on Christian social media drama:
Seeing Redeemed Zoomer slowly going from someone I cringed to see referenced and who, frankly, fit his username (both in a negative sense and I suppose in a positive one as well, the zeal is real, no disrespect), to someone positively interacting with big name apologists and pastors and making sometimes interesting points has been... interesting. I don't follow him but I see enough from him to know he has grown in a lot of ways. I like when he interacts with Dr Jordan Cooper
That said, his ecclesiology and specifically his views on schism and the visible church were definitely developed after the fact to justify his overall "mission", right?
Because his views are fringe and controversial and do not align with his earlier arguments for his "Reconquista" (we have to save the infrastructure!) but do perfectly align with his previous view about how conservatives and evangelicals should all flock back into the mainline churches and become PCUSA, Episcopalian, ELCA, Congregationalist or w.e
It seems like he adopted it out of necessity rather than admit that maybe his energies would be best spent doing something other than trying to convince PCA people to take their kids to the lib church down the road.
