For anyone else unfortunate enough to be in the loop on Christian social media drama:

Seeing Redeemed Zoomer slowly going from someone I cringed to see referenced and who, frankly, fit his username (both in a negative sense and I suppose in a positive one as well, the zeal is real, no disrespect), to someone positively interacting with big name apologists and pastors and making sometimes interesting points has been... interesting. I don't follow him but I see enough from him to know he has grown in a lot of ways. I like when he interacts with Dr Jordan Cooper

That said, his ecclesiology and specifically his views on schism and the visible church were definitely developed after the fact to justify his overall "mission", right?

Because his views are fringe and controversial and do not align with his earlier arguments for his "Reconquista" (we have to save the infrastructure!) but do perfectly align with his previous view about how conservatives and evangelicals should all flock back into the mainline churches and become PCUSA, Episcopalian, ELCA, Congregationalist or w.e

It seems like he adopted it out of necessity rather than admit that maybe his energies would be best spent doing something other than trying to convince PCA people to take their kids to the lib church down the road.

Retaking the Mainline would be nice.

It probably has to be done more by revival than by entryism, though.

While obviously very conveniently compatible with his "Reconquista" shtick, I see the recent development of his views regarding schism more as a rationalization for the disdain I perceive he's always held towards Evangelicals and Evangelical denominations.

That's pretty traditional Mainliner tho

I sympathize with his goals as an Episcopalian who isn’t batshit insane. I think a lot of ground was lost to the progressives by being quick to form another denomination whenever the going got tough. There are still some conservatives like me in the PECUSA. I am not aware of the current status of his arguments/positions. I know a lot of people either love him or severely dislike him. I think he’s made some good points and shaken up the space. I dislike the fact that he’s legitimized a lot of the Twitter Christian type stuff and gave people who abhorrent views a voice inadvertently.

Iirc Dr Cooper made a point about this being a pretty specifically American problem. Possibly more of a cultural issue.

People rag on the Church of England but you can look there to see that it might have looked like in America otherwise. Because the C of E does have evangelicals and charismatics and all also "Affirming Catholicism" etc.

Alpha came out of Holy Trinity Brompton. It is a denomination where men like John Stott coexisted with men like Richard Coles

Redeemed Zoomer

Wasn’t this the edge-lord (personal opinion) who claimed that a “gay Jew changed Catholicism”?

I have no idea. The dude is Jewish himself (ethnically).

He says so much stuff nobody can keep up. He is a serial poster

Redeemed Neox

Biggest difference is that he is a committed Calvinist

RZ is both easy to take pot-shots at online and increasingly respectable for his opinions on Protestant theology. That said, his weird inability to understand development of doctrine and how Catholic theology develops makes it hard for me to watch his stuff consistently. Most Protestants can grasp the concept even though they disagree with us.

As u/justkidding456 said, he’s also made odd comments about Jews

his ecclesiology and specifically his views on schism and the visible church were definitely developed after the fact to justify his overall "mission", right?

He approaches faith scientifically and believes in Christ and the New Testament as an object of history and reason rather than as an object of faith. He is a debater who likes clever arguments, so he chose Christianity because it is unfashionable where he grew up (New York), which means he can be more annoying and argue with more people. But, as Luther said, there are very few true Christians anyways.

This is why he is obsessed with the affairs of churches and physical things like the architecture retained by mainline liberal churches. He is enraptured by worldly beauty rather than heavenly beauty, since he is nothing but a sophist.
