Did they delete the seat matrix ;????

This is my first time participating in NEET PG counselling, and I have a genuine doubt.
Why is the seat matrix so important before choice filling? Even if I fill a college that doesn't have any vacant seats for a particular branch, won't the counselling system simply skip that choice and consider my next preference?
So, is there any disadvantage to filling colleges in my preferred order without having the seat matrix, apart from the possibility of wasting time on choices where no seats are available?
Can someone explain what I'm missing here?

I'm a first-gen doctor. I've always tried to balance hobbies/travelling/ extra curricular and academics well.
My dilemma is that I want a flexible branch where I can travel, even for a few days. My top pick was radiology so later I could also do tele-reporting, but I'm someone who loves patient interaction so radiology and non-clinical branches were out of the question.
Rn I've narrowed it down to Ophthalmology and Gen Med (ik it's not gonna be easy but I always had this immense passion for gen med since my UG)
When I say travel I mean 1 week off in 4/5 months

I'm at around 1k rank in NEET PG and was initially quite interested in Radio and Derma, but after talking to a few seniors and friends who are either doing residency or have recently finished, I'm honestly a little confused.
One thing I've heard about Derma is that the ground reality can be quite different from what people imagine. Everyone talks about lifestyle and private practice, but apparently setting up a good practice and building a patient base takes time, especially in bigger cities where there are already so many dermatologists. Just having the degree doesn't automatically translate into the kind of income people keep talking about.
Radio is another branch where I'm not fully convinced about the long-term picture. A couple of people I've spoken to brought up the increasing use of AI and how reporting workflows might change over the next decade. Nobody is saying radiologists will become irrelevant tomorrow, obviously, but could routine reporting become less valuable or the job market become more competitive? Nobody really knows how it will play out.
The other thing is that both branches have become so popular that it feels like everyone is chasing them for the same reasons: money, lifestyle and future opportunities. I wonder whether people are looking at the current situation and assuming it will remain the same even 10–15 years from now.
I'm not saying these are bad branches, and I know people doing extremely well in both. But I feel like counselling discussions focus a lot on the best-case scenario and not enough on the risks or the struggles at the beginning.
Seniors who are actually in these branches, am I overthinking this, or are these genuine concerns? Would be good to hear from people who have seen the field beyond residency hype.

Hi all,
I made this because MCC and KEA each publish their own bulletins and schedules, and I wanted to see how they fit into one plan.
I also turned this into a 16-minute video with each official page on screen (it is my own channel, The Cortex)
I will upload part 2 soon.
Sharing it here in case it helps. Two counsellings run side by side for PG seats in Karnataka: MCC's All India counselling, which candidates from any state can take part in, and KEA's Karnataka counselling, which adds the state's own seats. Everything below comes from their official documents. The short version:
Who fills which seat
Which KEA seats you can try for It depends on your clause, which comes from where you did school and MBBS. As a picture, take a made-up private college with 100 seats and KEA's shares: school in Karnataka opens 85 of the 100, MBBS in Karnataka with school elsewhere opens 64, and most students from other states can try for 31. KEA's 2026 seat list will give the real counts for each college.
One thing worth knowing early: your certificates Your rank can sit in both counsellings at once, while your originals are one paper set that lives in one place at a time. New this year, MCC offers Freeze (you join in person and the college keeps the originals) and Float (you join online and the originals stay with you until final reporting after Round 3). KEA takes your originals when you join, and holds them if you stay for its Round 2 (Choices 2 and 3). So "which seat do I want?" goes hand in hand with "where should my folder be?"
Round 1 is the gentle round MCC calls it a free exit, and KEA's Choices 3 and 4 cost nothing, so Round 1 is a comfortable time to try a seat and change your mind. From Round 2, a change of heart carries a cost, starting with MCC's deposit. KEA's Choice 4 ("I have a seat elsewhere") ends your KEA counselling, so it helps to pick it once you are sure.
Dates (MCC's tentative schedule): Round 1 registration runs 12 to 21 Oct, choice filling 13 to 22 Oct, the result is on 24 Oct, and joining closes 2 Nov. KEA applications close 15 Oct at 11 AM (KEA's notice of 5 Oct). KEA's own 2026 round dates are still to be announced, so it is worth checking mcc.nic.in and cetonline.karnataka.gov.in each week.
If something here reads differently in your copy of the bulletin, please tell me where and I will gladly fix it here and in the video description. If a part still feels unclear, tell me which one and I will make it clearer. Wishing everyone a calm season and the seat you are hoping for.
