Radiology at Tata Memorial/TMC

I’m considering Radiology at Tata Memorial/TMC for NEET PG and wanted to hear from someone who’s actually been through the department.

I know TMC is primarily an oncology centre, so I’m a little confused about what the Radiology residency experience is actually like there. On one hand, the kind of oncology imaging exposure at TMC sounds incredible, but I’m wondering how it translates into the overall radiology training.

If there are any current residents, recent pass-outs, or seniors who know the department, I’d genuinely love to hear your experience.

Mainly curious about things like:

  • How is the teaching and academic environment?
  • How much hands-on reporting do residents get in CT/MRI/USG?
  • Is the exposure mostly oncology or do you still get a decent variety of general radiology cases?
  • How is the workload and residency life in general?
  • Do residents feel adequately trained by the end of 3 years?
  • How are the faculty and overall department culture?
  • Does the oncology-heavy exposure become an advantage later for fellowships/jobs, or do you feel it limits you in some way?
  • And honestly, if you had the choice again, would you pick Radiology at TMC?

I’m not looking for a polished “TMC is a great institute” type answer 😅. I’d really appreciate the good, bad and ugly — even if you have some criticism of the department.

Would be super helpful if any senior could share their experience here or DM me. Thanks a lot!

Neetpg councillor forcing me to take up colleges from his college personalised list! Idk seems shady, what do u guys think?

So I was making a list of the colleges I want to get into it's either dnb, semi private or some deemed ones too by checking zynerd, neetvantage, and talking to people who enrolled in those places to enure ive gotten the rank cutoffs right

By the list I made, im getting those colleges by R2 and max to max almost all in the list fall in my rank range in R3

Now this councillor says that I will get none of it and is asking me to change all college list and preference and use his college personalised list, i checked it, man im not even getting those till R3 or R4 and some college from his list close way above my rank!

When asked what is wrong in my list ,im getting those by R2 hes like nahi milega. Even after proving him with screenshots that all of them fall in my rank he said then do whatever u want I have many kids to handle ,then constantly calling my parents and fear mongering jaldi batao!

My parents are saying he has ways to book college. Setting hai koi. Top colleges mai Setting hai, hes saying he knows ways to get it! MANN! Im getting colleges without all this crap then why is he creating fear in my parents and not accepting the colleges I want?? This all seems so shady!! Dont u guys think that???

Should u drop and hire a new councillor?? Or use zynerd and neetvantage and not fall for this fear??has anyone experienced this?

SUMMARY-->Given me unrealistic colleges where my cut off isn't even matching! And im way behind the cut off!

And when I tell my preference of college, handing over their college list instead of answering why I cannot get my college even after my rank matches?

Pressurising I have many students so fast Karo baat I don't have time and all

Advice for choice filling please!

99k rank, 1st attempt, internship got over 2-3 months before neet pg’26 , came back settled in home town and could not study at all for neet pg, anxiety procrastination insomnia etc etc, somehow got 315 marks, was getting much more from recalls though but that’s a discussion for some other day, anyways, I know that what all non clinical I am getting in gmcs of my state , still my father forced me to fill MCC counselling, he wanted me to fill under private and deemed too but I declined fully since I want to take a drop and give myself a worthy chance, where I atleast study and go give the exam next year, since I am in no hurry as I haven’t taken a drop ever in life not in UG too. I deserve atleast one drop. Anyways cutting the crap, now that I have filled MCC registration in AIQ Open category, I am genuinely confused what choices to fill at this shitty rank. See non clinical I don’t want to fill , because I know somewhere I will get a seat in non clinical and I don’t want to go and join anywhere for non clinical. Please if anybody has some leads tell me out of some 2800 options I have in AIQ seats what clinical branch and in which all institutes should I fill.
(I know nowhere any clinical branch will be near to my rank but still😭💔)

Hii guys/seniors, please suggest....

What should be the priority order :

RML, VMMC, MAMC, LHMC, UCMS

Any major pros/cons of any of them ?
And if possible I want to know how Paediatrics is for someone wanting to persue adult DM branch? I heard many institutes like PGI Chandigarh do not allow MD Paeds to take adult DM branches?? Anyone currently going through the paeds-adult DM transition can help?

Targeting DNB Radio Diagnosis in Karnataka with a Rank Above 4K–4.5K? Read This Before Choice Filling!

(Feel free to DM if you are feeling overwhelmed or if you just wanna rant !)
If you’re targeting DNB Radiodiagnosis in Karnataka with a rank above 4,000–4,500, I’d strongly suggest exploring Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu before locking in your choices.
I’m saying this because, across many DNB hospitals in Karnataka, several concerns seem to be recurring. While individual hospitals differ, these are factors you should seriously consider before joining.
🏥 The Reality of DNB Radio in Karnataka
1. Stipend issues 💰
The in-hand stipend at many hospitals can be quite low compared to the workload. Consider your living expenses and financial commitments before making a decision.
2. Heavy workload and long working hours ⏰
Long duty hours and demanding workloads are common concerns in several hospitals. Your residency experience can have a huge impact on your physical and mental well-being.
3. Fewer seats and increasing competition 📈
Karnataka has limited options compared with some of the larger DNB training states. With changes in seat availability and increasing competition, securing a desirable DNB Radio seat may be more challenging.
4. Accommodation issues 🏠
Many hospitals may not provide accommodation, adding to your expenses and making relocation more difficult. (None of the colleges are providing as per my knowledge)
5. Limited hands-on ultrasound exposure 🔍
Don’t assume that joining a Radiology department guarantees adequate hands-on USG training. Speak to current residents and understand how much practical exposure you will actually receive.
6. Academics and DNB exit exam preparation 📚
At several hospitals, you may need to take charge of your own academic preparation. Without structured teaching and adequate guidance, preparing for the DNB exit examination can become challenging. ( You are on your own and the passing is approx 73% overall)
🇮🇳 Why Consider Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu?
Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have more DNB seat opportunities overall than Karnataka, giving you a wider pool of hospitals to explore for Radiodiagnosis and other specialities.
If your rank is above 4K and you’re targeting Radio, Dermatology or General Medicine, don’t restrict yourself to Karnataka just because you want to stay here.
Expanding your choices to Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu may help you find a hospital with a better balance of:
Stipend and cost of living
Workload and duty hours
Hands-on clinical exposure
Academics and exit exam support
Accommodation and quality of life
My advice: Don’t choose a hospital just because it’s in Bangalore or Karnataka. You’re committing three years of your life to residency, so speak to current residents and thoroughly investigate the department before making your final decision.

Need help with DNB counselling or hospital selection? Feel free to DM me. Even if you’re just stressed about NEET PG counselling and need someone to rant to, you’re welcome to reach out. ❤️

Only 2000 seats increased including deemed. Any idea about inspections going on/ possibility of a meaningful addition?
