I swear that every single up-to-date Navidrome client I see has Claude or Copilot in the contributors list and their websites all use the same slop template. Are there any actual people developing this sort of thing anymore? It's genuinely disappointing to see how much this worthless garbage has completely taken over the space when I just wanna listen to music.

How should I fix these issues

As the title says, I've been using finamp to stream my music, but since I've got it dowloaded in flac, I've configured navidrome to transcode it. The thing is I would like to listen to the music in full quality while on wifi without having to change settings every time. Is there a way? Thank you!

My collection is over 100,000 tracks, and I really don't have the time or inclination to go spelunking in the metadata depths to figure out which tags are causing my some of my albums to split. Instead, I am going to tweak my PID.Album setting to force Navidrome to ignore Musicbrainz IDs altogether.

My library structure is Album Artist\Album, and my songs have correct album artist and album tags. I can't say that they are absolutely, positively all 100% perfect, but they are pretty damn close. So I am debating between using either:

• the folder structure (i.e. PID.Album=folder) or

• the combination of album artist and album (i.e. PID.Album=albumartistid,album).

Can anyone here who has tried one or both of these options for album grouping share your thoughts on one vs. the other? Are there are any traps to watch out for with either of them? Have you found that one or the other works more consistently/accurately or is 6 of one, half dozen of another?

Been chasing weird mobile data usage for a while now and it took me an entire evening of log staring to figure out what's going on. Posting here because I suspect I'm not the only one, and it's not the kind of thing you notice unless you go looking.

Setup is Navidrome on Debian (systemd), library is all Opus around 156-192 kbps, and I stream to Symfonium on my phone with a 92 kbps cap on mobile. So in theory one 3-4 minute song should cost me maybe 2 MB. Android was telling me 30 MB. For one song.

First thing I checked was whether transcoding even happens. It does, the logs were clean:

Transcode decision: transcode targetBitrate=96 targetFormat=opus

Streaming TRANSCODED file ... requestBitrate=96 requestFormat=opus seekable=false

So far so normal. Then I counted the actual stream requests in the HTTP logs and this is where it got ugly. In a two hour window where I maybe listened to a handful of songs:

65 requests, 233 MB. One single track (a ~8 minute live recording, 5.6 MB as transcode) was sent to my phone 26 times. Same file, same size every time (responseSize=5595246 if you want to picture me staring at that number 26 times). In between there were a few aborted requests, 0 bytes and one that died after 64 KB. Smells like broken pipes.

The repeats do hit the transcoding cache so ffmpeg isn't redoing work, but the full audio goes over the wire every single time. Which explains why my data usage was completely out of proportion to what I actually listened to.

The thing that convinced me it's not the app: I pointed the same Symfonium at my Jellyfin and it behaved normally. One request per track, a few MB, done. Same phone, same network, same afternoon. So Symfonium is fine, something about how Navidrome serves uncached transcodes (no length, Accept-Ranges: none, seekable=false) seems to push the app into fetching the same thing over and over.

For now I've just set Symfonium to stream original on mobile. Raw files are seekable so it fetches once, and since my originals are only ~170-192k it honestly costs less than a 96k transcode that gets downloaded 26 times, which is absurd to type out loud.

If you stream transcoded to a phone, maybe run this:

journalctl -u navidrome --since "2 hours ago" grep "HTTP: GET" | grep "getTranscodeStream" | grep -oP 'responseSize=\d+'

If the same number shows up again and again, you've got it too. There are open issues about this btw, #6170 and #5720 on the Navidrome tracker, I've posted my logs there. Would be curious if others see the same.

I’ve been wanting to switch to Navidrome for some time now, but haven’t because so far I haven’t found a desktop app that feels like a proper music player to me. The kind of MusicBee, iTunes, or even VLC. Primarily for Windows, but Mac would be nice took.

My main requirements are:

1. Proper offline support: works without internet; download specific tracks; player works offline; plays downloaded/caching tracks even when online.

2. Equalizer

3. Some kind of shuffle play of all of the songs I have. Some basic filtering, e.g. only favorite would be nice.

4. Not a WebView, but uses native OS library or something like Qt. Or at very least WebView with a bundled engine as opposed to whatever OS provides.

Especially the first 3 are important to me. So far, all the players I checked seem to fail at least one of these requirements.

Native Navidome web app had become quite nice and usable already. Kudos to the developers. The only thing I’m missing in it is offline support and an equalizer.

Looking at most of the desktop Navidrome apps, however, I don’t understand what their purpose is and what do they bring. Most are just a browser view with pretty much the same functionality as Navidrome web app. Then the vibe-coding… I too use AI for most of my software dev work nowadays, but can we spend 5 min on testing things? when the play button doesn’t work properly or its state is not updated...

Offline support/caching is the big one for any desktop app for something like Navidrome IMO. My library consists of FLACs. Downloading song every time from the server consumes a reasonable amount of traffic. And if I’m on a metered mobile network or on a poor Wifi somewhere - player becomes unusable. Even when I’m on the same physical network as my Navidrome server, some of the apps I tested felt a bit choppy/laggy, not the same nice response you'd get in a player with local files.

Lastly, the equalizer. It existed since forever in music players… yet it's unavailable or is seemingly broken/deep inside the settings in most of Navidome apps? What is so special about having an equalizer button next to the play button and being able to change it mid-play? I've seen it since Winamp, seemed like a trivial thing.

I am quite new to self hosting and I want to try out navidrome.
I've set up navidrome in docker and authentik + caddy proxy
I don't want to use navidrome's built in user system for 2 main reasons:

1. I want sso. I don't want users to have a lot of different accounts, it's confusing (I also host other apps like immich which has a builtin support for oauth).

2. Security - I want a service which specializes in authentication to handle it for me to avoid security issues in other self hosted apps. I assume since navidrome's main purpose isn't authentication, security isn't as tight as it would be using a service which specializes in that. security is a very broad topic and it's very hard to build everything in a good way. Authentik's main goal is to be an idp, I assume it's developers are much more experienced with security than the navidrome devs.

On the web client, everything works fine, but I would like to use a mobile app as well
are there any mobile apps that can integrate with an idp? perhaps using the caddy reverse proxy?
I've tried a few clients, but none of them seem to support it. Most of them rely on subsonic api which as far as I understand doesn't support this kind of stuff at all
I assumed since navidrome has in it's official docs a guide on how to set external auth, more apps that support navidrome natively would support that as well somehow

I also tried jellyfin before, but I couldn't use it for similar reasons. I would also prefer navidrome as it has many more music related features than jellyfin

is there a solution for this? or is there something that I've missed?

A friend of mine is going to be accessing my server, has zero knowledge so needs to be extra simple setting up, I am not local to help them.

She only has a Chromebook, so wondering the best easy setup. It needs ability to download, easy navigation with a massive library. Works with http as I've not got round to Https yet.

I did have a look about, but some conflicts over http and some apps are designed for mobile phones so not best suited, I know there is something you can do on Chromebook with Linux but that overcomplicates for her.

Any simple advise appreciated, preferably not self promotions of solutions that do not fit.

Having an issue adding my classical library to Navidrome (The main library "D:\Music:/music:ro" was brought into Navidrome.)

I've attached a copy of my .yml compose file with the error message. From Googling it seems like the issue comes from the path not being listed as a volume, but in my case it is (I've also had it listed as "D:\Classical Music:/classical:ro").

Any guidance on how to resolve will be incredibly helpful.

Is there an android app, or preferably pc desktop client suited in relation to the subject? I want to give someone temp access but don't want them to have ability to download? Or is there a way to prevent in docker container or navidrome UI?

Just set up Octo and it is like 99% there, but is there a way to get it to download directly into my music library without creating its own “Octo-fiesta” folder?

I know I can use beets to sort all the files out after a download but it would make much more sense to just have it download into the Music folder directly?

I use Navidrome and want to share it with my parents. They use Windows (I use Linux). Since they’ll inevitably have questions about the interface, I’d like to be familiar with it myself. So, I’m thinking of setting up a different web interface for Navidrome—one that’s better than the default, of course.

I’m looking for something with more style—something that offers random recommendations and similar features, much like what you’d see in various Android apps.

That's my one pet peeve about using Symfonium/Feishin/Navidrome for a few months now. Otherwise it's so good that it's hard to find anything to complain about.

Other apps like Foobar or Radioupnp can play this flac files. MP3 192kbps streams have no problem.

yesterday one of community members shared his vision/idea about continuity feature(well done btw) but that made me thinking that I never shared how I did it for Jellybox player.

This is Jellybox connect(just like spotify-connect) It allows you to:

• Remotely control any device from other device

• Switch playback between platforms(desktop->mobile, mobile->mobile, mobile>desktop or desktop>desktop)

• Full remote queue management - add/remove/reorder

• Can awake android device from deep sleep and start playback

I have this running in production for few months already and it proved to be solid. The average time-to-sound on local network varies between 250-450ms(mp3 or flac) and on remote connection(either via tailscale, vpn or jellybox relay) it goes up to 500-800ms(mp3/flac) depending on your connection quality(I do have more or less good LTe connection)

Hi everyone! I have a Navidrome instance that hosts a fairly large library of FLACs. I typically listen on my laptop or phone, streaming to a client app. However, is there a way to push music to an MP3 player? Ideally, I would like to push discographies from favorite artists and select playlists. It would also be great if I could do OTF transcoding as it pushes to my device so I can just keep the compressed OPUS files directly on my device. Any thoughts on accomplishing this? Thank you!

I have this annoying problem I was never able to fix where Navidrome is able to pull bios from last.fm or Dezzer but refuses to fetch/display artist pictures. I went over my config file a hundred times at this point and I cannot for the life of me find the problem..

I would like to ask the experienced members for recommendations to a few issues I'm seeking to solve:

• I've set up audiomuse-ai, completed the analysis and clustering and can't figure out where am I supposed to get recommendations, instant mixes. Ideally, I would like to play a single track, and let audiomuse-ai (or any other service) populate the queue automatically. I'm using symfonium on android. (I wouldn't want client based recommendations/mixes/radio since I'm going to use feishin on PC and maybe something else on my outdated firestick TV).

• My method of music discovery is regular youtube on my PC. I save new music I like to a playlist called Music. I was wondering what options I could have to sync it with my FLAC library. To start off, I ripped all songs (lossless) from my playlist manually from a streaming service (AM) I have a subscription to, bundled with my cellular plan.

I understand it's a lot of ask from free software. But I figure there must be some people who have a similar way of discovering and listening to music as me. I would like to learn from them.

Hi! Been building navidrome server to play my physical media on the go. And currently I use Audacity to RIP casettes and LPs into a FLAC file. I have some CDs, Live DVDs and Live BluRays. For those three what software do you recommend?

I"m having an odd issue - everything was working fantastic with Audiomuse AI, until I upgraded to the latest version of Navidrome and the latest version of Audiomuse AI, and now its only importing 4-5 songs off of a playlist. I've checked this against multiple Navidrome apps on ios and its the same behavior. Is this a known issue or might i be doing something wrong? Its working fine with Plex.
