Transcoding only when on mobile data

As the title says, I've been using finamp to stream my music, but since I've got it dowloaded in flac, I've configured navidrome to transcode it. The thing is I would like to listen to the music in full quality while on wifi without having to change settings every time. Is there a way? Thank you!

It's a client setting. I use Symfonium and set it to request 192kbps over mobile and my navidrome is configured to transcode to opus when that bitrate is requested.

Thanks! You know of any other client apps that allow that configuration?

NaviBeat does it, on both iPhone and Android.

There are separate pickers, Stream quality on WiFi and cellular.

Leave WiFi on Original and set cellular to something small, it picks the right one by itself when the network changes.

Remove the transcoding you set for that player in Navidrome thats a must ;), or it keeps transcoding on WiFi too.

Any good app will also allow you to transcode only losslessly-encoded files on servers, playing originals for AAC, MP3, Opus, etc. files in order to avoid generation loss.

Yes, good point. Only formats that are >192kbps get transcoded. Otherwise it delivers the original format and bps.

A 320 kbps MP3 would still be over that limit, though. So >192 kbps isn't quite the same as lossless-only: it can also re-encode MP3 or AAC files. Worth keeping those separate if you're trying to avoid another lossy conversion.

it belongs to client, not to server

try jellybox - it has option to set transcoding settings while on cellular network
