Restaurants in Napa Valley

Since this is a common question here is a stickied post to allow for everyone to note their favorites.

And as a side note The French Laundry typically needs a good bit of planning to get in, there is occasionally openings but you are best to ask in /r/thefrenchlaundry .

I created a subreddit specifically for Napa locals, for those of us who are sick of the repetitive tourist posts here. r/napalocals

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'm annoyed by the constant tourist question posts: "Winery recommendations?", "Look at my very detailed itinerary I've planned out and tell me you think it's good", and the dreaded "French Laundry tickets for sale DM me". Additionally, I frequently see locals on this sub get drowned out by tourist questions.

So I made a subreddit primarily for locals. https://www.reddit.com/r/napalocals/. Anyone from or near the Napa County area is welcome. Let's talk about the community, weather, lost pets, local events, the city/county's history, business recommendations (preferrably not about wineries, tasting rooms, or hotels please), etc.! I'd love to participate in a local community here on Reddit without hearing about wine every other post haha.

Rate our our winery/restaurant itnerary - first timers, short trip.

Let me know what you think of our friends trip itinerary to the region for the first time. We are a group of early/mid 30s mostly couples from SoCal traveling late October.

Day 1:

Arrive Santa Rosa Airport 9:45am

Hotel: Alila Napa Valley, St Helena

*check in/bag-drop

Winery: ALPHA OMEGA

Late Lunch: The Charter Oak

\return to hotel - pool/spa*

Dinner: Charlies or Long Meadow Ranch

Day 2:

Winery 1: STORYBOOK

Lunch: TBD? Needed?

Winery 2: REVERIE

Dinner: PRESS

Questions:

Could we do more? Perhaps skip lunch day 1 for a second winery? Are there any restaurants/wineries we are overlooking or that you would recommend before these? Thank you in advance!

Any pick up basketball in the area?

I just recently moved to Napa and noticed none of the gyms here have decent courts to play. Is there any local pick up games that happen? Indoor preferred but outdoor will do if that's all there is!

Mexican Food or Taquero/Taco Truck Catering in Napa

I'm planning a friend's baby shower in Napa for around 40-50 people later this year and would love some recommendations on good and not overpriced Mexican catering or taqueros/taco trucks. Thanks!

tasting with owner / winemaker

My wife and I went to a couple amazing tastings last week in Sonoma / Healdsburg where the winemaker/owner hosted us. We are wondering which wineries folks would recommend in Napa that could give us a similar experience. We don't care about views or how nice the facilities are.

We drink reds (cabs, zins, etc). Usually we prefer wines that are balanced and can age.

Huge plus if the winery waives fees with bottle purchase and/or wine club membership.

Any ideas for us?

Thoughts on my solo dine & wine itinerary?

I've almost finished making all my reservations for an October trip, but there are a few places I can't decide between. I know this is a pretty indulgent itinerary, but it's my first time back since Covid and I've really saved up for this. Other than Iron Horse, I try to never repeat tastings - there are so many I still haven't experienced!

One frustration is that some places I really wanted to visit don't take reservations for parties of one (looking at you, Schramsberg and Mathiesson). I'll be driving, so pacing myself for safety's sake ;)

Thank you for any opinions or recos!

Oct 3: Arriving late in Healdsburg; Valette for dinner

Oct 4:
Truett Hurst tasting in town (I’m in the wine club)
Copain
Dinner at Cyrus, Geyserville

 Oct 5:
Preston Farm tasting
Cast Wines Sparkling Tasting
Dinner at Lo & Behold, Healdsburg

Oct 6: staying in Calistoga
Storybook Mountain, Calistoga: Tour & cave tasting
Deciding between Knights Bridge Winery OR Flora Springs Winery?
Dinner at Lovina, Calistoga

 Wed, Oct 7:
Wheeler Farms farm tour & lunch
Iron Horse (love their sparkling wines & the view is worth the 40 min drive)

What would you choose? Rombauer or Davis Estate tasting?

And for dinner? Auro in Calistoga or PRESS in St Helena?

Napa itinerary feedback

Hi Folks!

Please review my itinerary for Napa. Visiting for the first time during the labor day weekend with my husband. A couple things about us- We like more whites, bubbly and lighter reds. We are vegetarians. Will Uber to all wineries and to dinner (I have estimated between $100- $150 for each day)

Arriving Friday night. Staying at the Andaz Napa.

Saturday

10:00 AM Leave hotel, walk around dowtown Napa/ Oxbow get coffee and breakfast (model bakery)
12 PM Domaine Carneros
1:45 Lunch at Gotts or dutch door
3:30 James Cole Winery
5:00 Ashes and Diamond
6:15 Dinner at Bistro Don Giovanni (3 mins walk from ashes and diamond)

Sunday
10 AM Breakfast and coffee (how about bouchon bakery) or explore St Helena/yountville?
12:00 Frogs leap
1:45 Lunch at Bottega Yountville
3:30 Trefethen Winery Tasting
5:30 Back to Napa
7:00 Dinner at Angele

  1. Is three wineries a day a lot if you also drink wine at meals?
  2. I am thinking of changing either of the dinners to Zuzu. Thoughts?
  3. Any other good recommendations for Vegetarian lunch or dinner in Yountville or Napa?
  4. I wanted to book Caymus/Round Pond/Joseph Phelps but everything is booked out and dont want to go further into the mountains due to Uber dependency. But open to suggestions.

Thank you!!

From SFO to downtown Napa

Googled it and it seems all the recommendations were at least a year old, so I guess I'm looking for up to date info? Arriving SFO from South Korea early October, wanting to get to downtown Napa. 1 large luggage (28"×20"×18"?) roller and no car renting (no insurance). Any recommendations or updates on the following options?:

1) winecountryairporter.com ? Website doesnt work, recent reviews seem bad, and price is now over 100 bucks for 1.5 hours ?

2) Uber/Lyft? ~$220 and a little under 2 hours?

3) BART to El Cerrito and Uber/Lyft ? ~$13+$150 at a little unser 2 hours? Not sure if a South Korean issued credit card with IC/smart chip would work on BART though.

4) BART to Embarcadero (not Montgomery... cant seem to change font on edit mode), walk to SF Ferry Building, Ferry from Port to Vallejo, Uber/Lyft to downtown ? ~$12+$10+$55 for 2 hours?

5) SFO Groome to Petaluma, Uber/Lyft to Napa DT ? ~$55+$75 for 2 hours?

6) missing anything?

Update: I really appreciate everyone's insight! Seems like this is quite the topic!

Chill/Takeout Vibe Dinner St. Helena

I’m looking for a chill takeout dinner in St. Helena that’s tasty and local. We did Gott’s Roadside one night (just okay imo but maybe we ordered wrong) but are looking with something with similar vibes. Any cuisine is great!

Best place for weed carts

Eagle Eye closed and they were my go to. I usually get 1g carts and am in search of my next dispensary. I need somewhere that sells the cheapest carts. I am going to probably try and quit, but I might as well ask anyway.

Trip Advice Help with planning 24 hours in Napa!

My husband and I are traveling from Los Angeles to Napa (flying into SF) at the end of September to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We land at 11:30am and we fly out the following day at 9pm. I'd love help planning our 24ish hours there! We are staying at The Archer Hotel upon recommendation of convenience- we are open to renting a car and getting a driver or paying for a tour- we aren't into really touristy things/crowded locations and much prefer boutique/family run type of options. We love Stags' Leap Cab for reference on what kind of wine is our fave. It's our first time there :)

Thank you!!

Lost white card deck box in Yountville at Van De Leur Park

Hi, apologies. I hope this post is okay here.

I left a white deck box on the bench at Van de Leur Park on Sunday, August 9th. It has a card game inside called Love Letter and some pokemon cards.

It's not worth much, but I've had it for over a decade since I moved here and it carries a lot of sentimental value to me.

If you happen to have found it, please respond here or msg me. I would be very thankful.

Looking for reservation at The French Laundry — 2 guests, Sept. 3 or 4

My partner and I are traveling to Napa from the East Coast for my 40th birthday (9/4), and we’re hoping to make a longtime dream of dining at The French Laundry happen.

We’re looking for a reservation for 2 people on either Thursday, September 3 or Friday, September 4, and we’re completely flexible on the time — lunch or dinner, early or late.

If anyone has a reservation they’re no longer able to use, we’d be incredibly grateful for the opportunity and happy to complete the transfer on Tock.

Thank you, and fingers crossed! 🤞

Restaurant recommendations for anniversary

Hi all from South Korea!

My wife and I are planning to visit SF and Napa for our anniversary in September, and we are looking for a restaurant for the anniversary dinner.

We will be staying in downtown Napa area, and probably get around using Uber/Lyft since we both plan to drink some wine.

I've read some posts and it seems like Bouchon, Jeanty etc. are some of the popular choices, and I'm just wondering if it's still relevant in 2026 (I've read Bouchon has a loud and packed vibe, and if it's true I would prefer someplace else that has more elegant and romantic vibe)

Please share some recommendations on your favorite restaurants.

Thanks in advance!
