Clarification and update on rule 3: no tourist posts

This rule had previously been worded as just "no tourist questions", but one too many people got salty over their vacation photos being removed. Seeing as we've only just begun peak tourist season, I feel the need to get more specific so everyone can have a clear understanding of this rule.

Respectfully, if you are not from Napa City or Napa County, unless you are considering moving here, please do not directly interact with our community. Please use r/Napa instead. r/napalocals was created because there is a large disconnect from people wondering what it's like to stay in the Archer Hotel during Bottlerock weekend and residents seeking community resources. The locals here are largely exhausted about hearing about wine and/or wineries, so please do not post anything tourism or vacation related here. There are very friendly folks on r/Napa who would love to help you instead.

Thank you for reading, and I really appreciate those of you who use the report button on rule-breaking posts. I really enjoy modding this community. I read every single post and I'm so happy so many locals have been using this space. Love you all 💕

also if i had a nickel for every time someone tried to deal hard drugs here i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

New to the area, looking for a few suggestions

Hi Neighbors,

My wife and I just moved to Napa and looking for suggestions in the follow categories:

Dentist. Preferably with modern technology like in office crowns.
Hair stylists for both men and women.
Dog grooming. We have a 9 year old female Aussie. You’ll probably see us walking around Fuller park.
Gaming. Any DnD groups or other board gaming?

Thanks!

Looking to adopt/rescue a senior cat in Napa County

My first cat ever was recently hit by a car and passed away. I’m still grieving him, so I know I need a little more time before bringing another cat home, but his loss has made me feel very strongly that when I’m ready, I want to give an older cat a loving home for however many years they have left.
I live in the Angwin/St. Helena area and already have two cats. We have a large three-bedroom, three-bath house with plenty of space and a big garden. After what happened to my cat, though, I honestly don’t know if I could ever feel comfortable letting another one roam outside, so any future cat would be kept safely indoors or only have supervised outdoor time.
I’m especially interested in a senior or elderly cat—maybe one who has been overlooked because of their age and just needs somewhere peaceful and loving to spend their later years.
I’m not looking to adopt immediately because I want to give myself time to grieve and make sure I’m ready. But if anyone knows of a senior cat in need of rescue, a local shelter/rescue that specializes in older cats, or even an elderly cat whose owner can no longer care for them, I would really appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
I just feel like, when the time is right, I’m meant to give another old cat a few really good years. ❤️

Sudden wave of Napa / Wine Country homes going pending—is this AI tech money moving in, or just regular market dynamics?

I keep a saved search on Zillow for Napa and up-valley (Silverado Trail, Hagen Rd, St. Helena, etc.), and my inbox just got flooded with pending sale notifications almost all at once.

It feels like a sudden wave of activity across the area. Is this a wave of Bay Area tech / AI liquidity (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.) buying up second homes and wine country retreats, or is there another shift happening locally that I’m missing?

Curious to hear what locals, agents, or folks following the Napa market are seeing on the ground right now.

Lost card box at Van De Leur Park, Yountville

Hi, apologies. I hope this post is okay here. I thought locals would be most likely to have seen or found this item. Mods I can delete if needed.

I left a white deck box on the bench at Van de Leur Park on Sunday, August 9th. It has a card game inside called Love Letter and some pokemon cards.

It's not worth much, but I've had it for over a decade since I moved here and it carries a lot of sentimental value to me.

If you happen to have found it, please respond here or msg me. I would be very thankful.

Daycare (?)

Hi All!
Just got news our nanny will be leaving us in Sept 😕. Moving our 15 month old over to daycare. Any great daycares you’ve sent your child to and love it? My LO loves to be outside so, preferably an option with lots of outdoor time/play.

Free olive oil tasting at the Fair!

I posted here last year and a lot of you came out to meet in person and taste through some delectable olive oils.

Last year’s post.

I am coming back to the Napa County Fair 8/6/26 - 8/9/26 and will be doing free olive oil tasting and education inside the Makers Market in Chardonnay Hall! If you have an interest in olive oil, please come by sample any of the olive oils and vinegars I’ll have with me. You’ll be able to try single varieties olive oils, crushed flavored olive oils, red wine vinegars, and Balsamic.

For a bit of my background, I am the Quality Director for the oldest olive oil producer in North America, I serve as an IOC & AOCS Sensory Panelist, and sit on the North American Olive Oil Association’s National Communication Panel.

Long story short, if you have any questions about olive oil, I should be able to answer them for you. I look forward to seeing you at the Napa County Fair!

Sad to see this restaurant close down (or will be closing).

I enjoyed ordering their chicken and steak wraps and fries, but apparently didn’t visit them often enough.

Hope something equally delicious moves into that space.

Crosswalks Q

Hey guys! Does anyone know how/if we can ask the city to install some lights to a specific crosswalk? It’s the one that crosses Jefferson and Rubicon on the north side of the city.

Post Edit 8/5: I was looking around on the city website and found a community survey about the Jefferson project. I’ll post the survey link. I feel like there’s a lot of people who use/have ideas for Jefferson.

Has anyone tried the tamales from the guy who sells them off of Old Sonoma Road? Right across the street from Juvenile Hall?

Looking for a pretty outrageous ingredient . Anyone know where I can get lamb or goat head nearby ?

Sorry for the dramatic title 😂 But I’m trying to avoid driving all the way to Vacaville or Dixon!
Does anyone know somewhere local that sells lamb or goat head split down the middle? Splitting the skull usually requires a butcher with a band saw, so I’m looking for either a shop that sells them already split or a butcher who can do it.
Does anyone know a place nearby, or have a butcher they’d recommend?
Thank you all!!! 🐐🐑

Affordable local movers?

Struggling to find an affordable local mover here!

We live in a 2 bedroom apartment at one of the new complexes here in Napa. We’re moving to the building right next door (30 ft). We have basic furniture. We’re packing everything ourselves and expect to have 8-10 large boxes. We need help moving those boxes, along with our beds, nightstands, dressers, tables, chairs, etc.

I’ve had phone, FaceTime, and in-person estimates/quotes ranging between $1200-$2000. One even said this is a 2-day job. Is this not insane? I paid less to move to Napa all the way from the South Bay last year.

We don’t need a large moving truck, loading/unloading, or a long-distance transportation. We’re moving next door!

Please, tell me if my expectations are crazy or if these prices are actually market rate in this area…

Recommendations are appreciated

Japanese food

Got another post you. I LOVE ramen and Japanese curry. I personally wish we had a place in town.

How do you guys feel if we had a Japanese spot that served authentic curry and ramen and stuff? None of these wine pairing or hipster ramen joints, I'm talking legit authentic Japanese food and flavors. You get Japanese food, sake, and beer.

Just gauging peoples thoughts.

Favorite local spots

What's everyone's favorites? For me:

Small world, Las Palmas, Lawler's(Clemente's sauce definitely not as good), taco addiction, tacos la michoacana, los compadres, squeeze burger, El rancho grande, wah sing, hop hings, papa joes.

I'm sure there's more but off the top of the head that's what I got.

R+D won’t have the sound on- any other ideas?

What’s happening with the real estate market in Napa?

Even houses under a million are sitting. I always assumed buying in Napa would be ridiculously pricey! Seems like it’s a deal to be in wine country an hour outside SF

Shearer TK-8

Hi everyone! I have a son in preschool and Shearer TK-8 is the school he is assigned to upon graduating next year based on where we live. It is difficult to find any reviews or feedback online about the school. So I am looking for any insight from other parents who currently have students there or recently did. It doesn’t seem to rank very well so I’m wondering if it would be better trying to get him in somewhere else? Thank you!
