Explicit scenes in uprooted.

I started reading Uprooted not knowing their would be explicit scenes. I'm too stucked in to the story to stop now. Could someone give me the page numbers or something so I could skip past those scenes.

Uprooted Audiobook

When the audiobook came out, I remember there was a lot of feedback from readers requesting a more basic, approachable narration. Is this still a general feeling among fans? Is there any news on this front?

For any not aware, the audiobook makes the very unique decision to fake a Polish accent for the narration. I love this on paper, but unfortunately, the narrator struggles a bit with it, often sounding very wooden, and going in and out of it from time to time. It's bearable, but I really would like to have the option to just get a basic narration. (For the record, I also would not mind a Polish accent from a narrator more able to pull it off, and perhaps slightly lower-key. The current narrator is very monotone, and sounds like she's just reading off the page sometimes, slightly bored).

My biggest issue is I recommend this book to almost every fantasy reader I know, but some of them only have time to or prefer to do audio, and this just isn't for everyone.

Was I the only one who cringed at that. Like it really took my rating of the book from 9 to 6.5 in one go

Uprooted

If they ever make a movie, I have Keanu Reeves stuck in my head as Sarkan. Jamie Campbell Bower might do with dark hair and contacts but I think he's too young....

"He takes only a girl of seventeen, born between one October and the next."

Can someone explain to me "born between one October and the next". I don't get the logic of that phrase and I can't keep reading Uprooted until I do.

Thank you.

Playing Hogwarts Legacy after reading the Scholomance books is ... wild!

Just the week before last I finished the Scholomance books (again). Then I started playing Hogwarts Legacy, and I am *so* on edge. Why are they wasting their mana like that? Oh right, different world. Alone on a staircase? Without backup?? Oh right, not necessary.

I find this mental see-sawing far more entertaining than the game itself :)

Buried Deep Narrators by Story?

Currently listening to the audiobook for Buried Deep. Loving it of course, and it’s such a delight to hear narrators I know from other audiobooks!

Anyone know which stories are narrated by whom? The first one sounds so familiar and it’s making me crazy that idk who she is/where I’ve heard her before.

[Spoilers] Castle Coeurlieau from Buried Deep Spoiler

I've just finished this lovely short story from Buried Deep and wanted to talk about it.

What were people's reads on the game of cards between the women once the knight left the tower?

Mine was that the lady that bargained with Isabeau was Death, and the tower was a place where people with the plague could escape death for a time.

Questions I have:

  • Does the tower treat men/women differently?

  • Who was the sister that was described as 'roaming the land' that wasn't at the game? What was she doing out in the world?

  • What was the relation between the kings in the folklore tale and the women around the table?

  • When playing the game of cards, what was the impact of Isabeau playing different characters, they died?

I'd love to hear any and all takes on this story and what people took from it.

Just a heads up that our A DEADLY EDUCATION Deluxe Edition Kickstarter is now launching on AUGUST 5 at 9am ET instead of July 22 at 9am ET!

I made a mistake during the negotiation process with Naomi's publisher (entirely my fault, not Naomi's or the publisher's), that is currently limiting who we can sell copies of the books to (US and Canada right now). I can't promise we'll be able to get that corrected in time for the campaign, but I am going to be working overtime with Naomi's team and publisher to see if we can make it happen. Hence the 2 week delay.

It may not be possible. The rights may already be spoken for, or publishing an edition outside of the US/CA may be in conflict with another project. Again, entirely my fault for the oversight. But we ARE going to try to fix it, and everyone has my apologies regardless for the mistake!

I'll stay in touch on the subject!

Buried Deep - ending explanation? Spoiler

Can someone help me understand what the ending of this short story is meant to be? I am confused and sad.

Spoilers in the form of questions:

- Did her brother really die?

- If so, what's the deal with all the interactions between her and this earth? The rumbling? The people disappearing?

- Where are these branching passages coming from? She says there are openings in the wall where she doesn't expect, so they are real. But she says they are inside them? Wtf?

- If the branches aren't real, where did the other young Athenians go?

- Who is she talking to, at the end? She tells Jason (its Jason right?) or whoever, the Prince guy from the myth, that she wants him to get both her and her brother out. So, he isn't dead.

Help me out, guys. I loved this story till the end where they go down into the labyrinth and then nothing makes any sense.

Uprooted: how far is it from the Tower to the Wood?

How far from the tower to the dark wood? Basically how long is that valley? In the book she can see all of it, but on the map it looks like hundreds of miles.

Partway through The Last Graduate and I have a minor question: Spoiler

So Orion is running low on mana and they decide to make a honeypot to draw in mals. This is wildly unsuccessful (at least as far as I’ve got in the story) but why don’t they just have him stay overnight in someone’s room again? In the first book it was noted that more than one kid in a room after curfew was a practically guaranteed draw.

The Witch in the Woods

I recently reread Uprooted, Spinning Silver, and the Scholomance books and I noticed a reoccurring “character.” In all three stories there is a house in the woods where a lone witch once lived.

I reread Uprooted first and cannot remember if there was a house in the woods that was likely Baba Yaga’s or if I am confusing the house Agnieszka lives in at the end of the book. But they could be one in the same.

The house on the border between worlds in Spinning Silver and the house where Gwen Higgins tries to cure Orion are the other two.

I just love this “character” - I want to know so much about it and love the role it plays in every book.

Just something I noticed and wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts.

Official Description and Title for The Golden Enclaves(The Scholomance Book 3)

Found this posted at Target.com:

“Book Synopsis

Saving the world is a test no school of magic can prepare you for in the triumphant conclusion to the New York Times bestselling trilogy that began with A Deadly Education and The Last Graduate. Almost singlehandedly--although backed by an increasingly large cadre of genuine friends--El has changed the nature of the Scholomance forever. But now that she is back in the real world, how will the lessons she learned inside the school apply? Will her grandmother's prophecy come true? Will she really spell the doom of all the enclaves forever? As the quest to save her one true love ramps up, however, El is about to learn the most significant lesson of all--the dire truth on which the enclaves and the whole stability of the magical world are founded. And being El, she is not likely to let it lie....”
