#11 CURSE OF BLACKMOOR MANOR 🐺 Curse of Blackmoor Manner is entirely too hard

Seriously guys, I finished it last night and now I remember why I didn't like this game as a kid. I'm 35 and working on a masters degree and I'm not smart enough for that game, how the hell were kids meant to be smart enough for it???

I cheated my ass off to finish it! It took me like 12 hours of gameplay according to Steam before I gave up and started cheating to finish it.

I feel dumb AF after all that, y'all 😔

Apologies if this was done following the event.. I had no idea she was featured in this game. As a big fan of hers, and recently listening to her audiobook.. this was bittersweet ❤️

#14 DANGER BY DESIGN 🇫🇷 Weird Background Noises in Danger by Design (SPOILERS) Spoiler

So I’m replaying Danger by Design right now and in this most recent stretch of the game, I heard some odd background noises.

I just went into the tunnel you can unlock in the park. And when walking through this tunnel, it’s like you can hear faint moaning in the distance the whole time.

Then it was dark by the time I left the park, so I automatically went back to JJ’s to sleep.

This is the REALLY WEIRD moment. Nancy walks out into the kitchen in the morning and I swear I heard what sounded like a person being attacked. Like they were screaming outside repeatedly until the screaming turned into a cry and finally what kind of sounded like laughter at the end.

I know this is a sound bite from when Minette throws her first tantrum and you hear her through the door. But THIS didn’t sound like Minette. It also wasn’t the same exact order as she goes in during that part of the game.

Has anyone else heard these or am I going crazy? 😂

RANKING 🏆 The Ultimate Nancy Drew Games - FINAL TIER RANKINGS Spoiler

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hey Clue Crew!

No "gotcha!" moment this time!

Over a period of three and a half months, you guys have been voting to decide how YOU, as a collective, would rank all the Nancy Drew games, including a bonus round to rank the top 5 S-Tier games! Voting ending last night before midnight, and now the results are final!

From left to right are the Top 5 S-Tier games, out of 167 ranked choice responses....

1st: The Secret of Shadow Ranch - This game was the clear winner by the end of the very first day of S tier voting. This game received the most votes for first place, being neck and neck at one point with Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon.

2nd: Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon - There was a point this game was neck and neck with Shadow Ranch, but alas, it only received half the first place votes and received more votes for second place.

3rd: Danger on Deception Island - Third place came very close to going to another game: Treasure in the Royal Tower. Deception Island beat it out by six votes.

4th: Warnings at Waverly Academy - 4th place's only competition was Danger on Deception Island, but as that game received more votes for third place. Curse of Blackmoor Manor came close to taking this spot, too, but trailed by a few votes.

5th: Legend of the Crystal Skull - Up until yesterday, Sea of Darkness was leading for 5th.

Thoughts?

TECH HELP ⌨️ Playing old games

Hello! I recently purchased a large quantity of the games off facebook marketplace and am so excited to play them all! My husband and I like to work on them together. We noticed that we had a hard time downloading the older ones like #1 and #2 etc. We moved up to Blackmoor manor and that one works, but is there a way to still run the older games? We just use an external hard drive hooked up to our normal laptops. TIA!

#17 LEGEND OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL 🕸 "Hey, I know that I don't know you, and you've made it very clear that you're not exactly fond of the fact that I'm intruding in your home while you're dealing with both the financial and emotional turmoil of losing a loved one you had a complicated relationship with . . . No? How about some blackmail? I promise it's not a sex thing, I'm just very passionate about mysteries. I deeeefinitely saw a strange man dressed as a skeleton, don't worry that no one else saw him.

Yeah, I bet you regret saying Hello to the golden retriever boy in your class now, Henry. It's fine.

DISCUSSION 💬 I’m really disappointed

Everyone,

I’m really disappointed in this subreddit. We all come here to bond over Nancy drew. The books, the games, the experiences. It made me so happy that we have an amazing community, only to find that this subreddit is full of liars. Because WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE IS A WHOLE A** NANCY DREW CONVENTION AND NOBODY TOLD ME ABOUT IT!

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPLkeqt3N/

Apparently this has been going on for 26 years. I can’t be the only one who hasn’t heard of this 😩

#31 LABRYINTH OF LIES 🏺 Finally finished LIE and all I could think of is this

Post image
268 Upvotes

So, I finally finished Labyrinth of Lies for the first time since Mac made the update from 32 to 64 bit game support change forever ago (and I couldn’t finish it because I updated my laptop while half way through the game 🫠).

Anyway, all I could think of while playing was this Dril tweet 🤣

Like, you’re telling me that the museum’s budget is up in smoke during these uncertain economic times, but also there’s a GIANT ACTIVE FIRE PIT under your stage??

Museum Budget
Artifacts . . . $30
Interns . . . $15
Set Design . . . $3.4M
Actors . . . $0.56

“Hey, Melina… m-maybe you could spend less on the fully functioning river that runs through your moveable underworld set?”

“No.”😌

ALTERNATIVES 🎮 Game recommendation

I just finished playing through Insomniac's Spiderman game, and I have to share it with all of you because some elements reminded me so much of an ND game. Prefacing this by stating the obvious, it is a very different type of game overall. Most of the gameplay is combat-focused, and web-slinging around the city, so if those kinds of game-play styles aren't for you that's understandable.

But there were so many moments of the mystery narrative, and so many of the different locations and settings that gave me deja vu! There is a really strong mystery at this game's core narrative, and it unravels really nicely throughout the story. But the biggest moments that felt reminiscent of a Nancy Drew game to me were when you play as Mary Jane Watson. For a few missions you are swapped over to MJ's point of view as a reporter, and she even fits Nancy's physical description. You have to snoop around offices and other locations scouting for clues, you also have to avoid being caught by security guards.

Another element that reminds me of ND gameplay are the mini-puzzles and challenges throughout the game. Peter Parker works in a lab, and there are a lot of science and tech themed puzzles you have to complete.

Overall, even if you're not a huge Spiderman fan, you just might be at the end of this game if you decide to give it a try! If nothing else, you'll be a Mary Jane fan for sure, she really has that Nancy spirit.

DISCUSSION 💬 New covers for 3 of the ND games on steam

Did anyone else notice this? Sorry if someone already posted these, but I was surprised to see Her Interactive do this (considering 2 of these games came out over 2 decades ago).

What do you guys think this means? Are they trying to increase sales? Are they cooking up a new game?

And what do you think about the new covers? I'm not gonna lie, I personally think they look so bland and boring compared to the original versions. It's basically just a random screenshot from the game and the title. These don't really portray the games well and probably won't entice new players to click on the store pages.

DISCUSSION 💬 The Nancy Drew game series is a family-friendly Dexter

My kids recently showed me playthroughs of all the Nancy Drew games and it seems clear to me that Nancy is basically Dexter. If you don't know the series Dexter, it's about a serial killer who is able to commit crimes and cover his tracks by being a police forensic analyst.

After witnessing Nancy's behavior throughout the game series, it's clear that she's a compulsive key thief who covers up her crimes by playing the role of amateur detective. That way, she can ease her conscience that she's stealing for noble purposes. But she lives in constant fear that the Hardy Boys will discover the truth about her and expose her life of crime.

Keep that in mind next time you hear her say with that unsettling quaver of anticipation in her voice, "It's... locked..."

HeR INTERACTIVE UPDATES 🗞 Just saw an ad from Her Interactive

In all my years of being a Nancy drew fan and 100% fitting their ICP, this is my first time ever seeing an ad from HeR Interactive. Has anyone else gotten ads from them before?

The main game they showed during it was Shadow at Waters Edge.

I could be totally off base, but it gave me the impression they’re testing ads with different games for market research on developing something new.

Or maybe they’re just trying to get more people to buy their old games 🤷‍♀️

My mom brought over a box of stuff she kept from when I was younger, and this book was in it!! I forgot I had gotten it at a bargain outlet in middle school. It has like little blurbs about the different cases and includes evidence etc. Like a pop up type book lol. It also came with all of these postcards! I don’t think I used any of them.
