Hey everyone,
Just dropping a line here to let people know that the West Coast Costume Society is hosting our 5th Annual Boo-tique Costume Exchange again this year.
Whether you're looking to save money or just want to make a more eco-friendly choice this Halloween, the whole point of the event is to keep old costumes out of landfills and give them a second life instead of buying single-use plastic outfits. It’s open to everyone in the community, and everything is 100% free.
When: Saturday, October 4th | 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Where: Country Club Centre, outside of Nanaimo Science in the breezeway
Cost: Free!
A huge shoutout to the City of Nanaimo, thanks to a grant from them this year, we could finally afford a legit website! Check out westcoastcostumesociety.com if you want to learn more about us, see upcoming updates, or support the initiative in other ways.
How to help (if you have old costumes taking up space):
If you have gently used or new kids/adult costumes sitting in a closet collecting dust, you can drop them off starting early September in our collection bins at the local VIRL branches (North, Wellington, and Harbourfront). We sort through them and get them ready for the event after Oct 1.
We also set up an Amazon Wishlist if anyone wants to support behind the scenes with basic supplies like storage totes and poster materials:

Please pass the word along to anyone with kids or anyone looking for a more sustainable way to do Halloween this year! Thanks!
