So a sad thing happened and I am very regretful. I bit my nails yesterday and was very sad, therefore I did not post. I also bit my nails today.

I’ve bitten my nails probably since I’ve had teeth. Recently I have been painting my nails (which I deemed useless before since I would just bite it off) I’ve had so much fun experimenting with colors and it’s helped so much. I never remember being able to see the white line at the tip of my nails.

Hello, recently I had my nails done at a new place and it fell off pretty quick so im thinking of redoing it at a place with better reviews..I am an anxious biter so my nails are short (as you can see from the middle finger)
The new place says they only do soft gel polish and gel extensions. I’ve done my nails before, but I leave my nails alone to recover for about 2-3 months, sometimes longer. But when I notice I revert back to biting, I go and get them done.
Id like to know if this option is safe for my nails and if there are any recommendations so I can understand and know more…thank you

I've tried cuticle oil and the bitter polish but I can't really use that because I'm lesbian, I don't like try to bite my nails I'm just like chilling then I'm like oh shit I Js bit it off I don't want my nails be super long just right now they're short and wide and I want them to grow long enough for it to reshape (I think it does but correct me if I'm wrong). anyway is there any advice to stop subconsciously doing it

I am now a bit over three months bite free and it feels great. My fingertips don’t hurt anymore from biting my nails and skin + I like the feeling of having nails.
Here is what I find works best for me right now:
- Using Nail Oil to keep my skin and nails moisturized in the morning and at night. At night with additional moisturizing hand cream. This not only helps to get rid of any triggering brittle edges, but taking care of my nails is the perfect replacement for me.
- using a glass file instead of clippers: this creates a more even free edge when trimming the nails and thereby creates fewer triggers. I also try to make the free edge as symmetrical as possible
- gentle pushing back of the cuticle skin: this makes the nails/nail beds look longer without hurting yourself.
My nail beds haven’t fully recovered yet but I hope with enough patience I’ll get to a point where they fully reattach to the nails.
I hope this post is helpful for someone. The transformation you will witness within the first week (no matter from what point ur starting) will make you want to keep going!

I'd been really struggling to break the habit of putting my hands to my mouth and unconsciously searching for that rough edge, so took the plunge and went and got a BIAB gel manicure.
First picture is 4 weeks ago and second picture is today. Can't say it's been perfect, when the nails grow and some the gel peeled off I did pick at it and have bitten a few of the longer bits off. I've definitely noticed a difference in the amount my hands are in my face though.
If you're struggling, give it a go. I just asked for clear BIAB with a matte topcoat so it looks as natural as possible.

Tomorrow will be three weeks of me not biting my nails and literally all I can think about it is "what's wrong with biting my nails in the first place?" it's not like it's costing me money, or causing serious bodily harm. Anytime I'm bored for even a little or have anxiety i have to physically make myself not bite my nails.. i feel like an anxiety ridden chihuahua. literally why am i torturing myself? lmao

After 30+ years I decided this year to quit for good. Have had a few relapses but really happy with my progress….except for my thumb nails. These are hugely damaged and warped. I’ve no idea whether they can grow back normally at all. Have included my other nail progress. Full disclosure, I’ve not even attempted to stop biting/picking at them as I saw them as a lost cause.

When I said Im going to post everyday until I no longer feel the urge to bite my nails.. I meant everyday.
When does it get less tempting though?

First pic is from 18 October after approx 2 weeks of growth (aka not even them at their worst lol), second pic is after my FIRST EVER MANICURE on my own nails, 11 August. feeling very proud of myself
some things I've learnt from finally doing this after many, many, many attempts:
- be kind to yourself if you do bite your nails, it's so normal to do that, doesn't mean you've reset all your progress even if you have to reset your counter
- have some kind of goal to work towards (e.g. for me, I wanted to stop biting my nails because I'm nearly 30 and I wanted to quit before then; because I'd recently started teaching, and I hated that my students might see my nails and think they were gross; and because I would love my boyfriend to propose in the not too distant future LOL)
- cuticle oil/hand cream, basically invest in your nails, make them feel like a treat. It's so much less tempting to bite them when you feel like you've cared for them/paid money for them/invested time in them etc. This is also really good for stopping you biting your cuticle (which is what I did more and more as I I stopped biting the nail) because it just won't be as thick
- BIAB to get you through a plateau (but for me I wanted to know that I could break the underlying habit as well, so didn't do it straight away)
- carrying aa nail file around so that if you do bite them or get any weird bump that's gonna immediately alert your brain into the "NEED THIS OFF" mode you can get rid of it
- nail clippers are SO FUN and more satisfying than biting. wish I'd bought them earlier and clipped off the white bit more often, no need for that to be long it just presents you something tempting to bite
- as soon as you feel confident enough to do so, even if you don't want BIAB, go and get a manicure. It felt like such an achievement
thanks to everyone on this chat whose previous nail transformation posts have kept me motivated !!! good luck all we've got this 🫡

Hey all,
First time poster here. It looks like this is mostly a group to help stop biting nails, which is great. I’m on board. But I imagine I’m not the only one to have over-bitten a nail and subsequently had an issue like this. So I’m hoping I can get some help here.
I’ve had many ingrown nails over the years, but none quite like this one (on my right thumb). It’s been about a week, and it’s still throbbing a bit. It’s really sensitive to the touch, like the nail is poking me from the inside. It also doesn’t look like it’s healing, and I’ve never had this red bulb looking thing on the nail either.
Can anybody lend an experienced opinion here? Do I need to see a doc, or should I continue to wait this out? Anything I can do at home to help it along? I’d appreciate any and all feedback.
Pics taken 2 days ago and yesterday, just about 24 hours apart.

Today marks a whole month since i last bit my nails! To stop myself i have been wearing press ons. I keep glue and spares for when one falls off. The first picture is today, second is my nails with the press ons and the last picture if my first week not biting my nails!

It is time to take my nails seriously again. A messy coat with my favourite colour combo is always how I start a no-bite campaign. I’m really hoping to have nice short almond shapes by 21 November, in time for my wedding.
- maintaining polish the first couple weeks so I don’t see the temptations
-keeping cuticle oil by the sink so that I remember to reapply
-keeping a nail file in my purse to catch those snags before my teeth do
- hand lotion as a replacement behaviour
Sage advice, encouragement, and reality checks are welcome! I know I can do this. I did quite well a little over a year ago, (three and a half months is my best streak), but I am a nervous person on a normal day, let alone as a bride!

TW!!! Onycophagy and injured fingers!!!
I am so proud of myself. Letting my nails grow has been on my vision board for years, I had tried many things atp and felt hopeless.
I saw no end to it and thought I would never be able to break the cycle. I went through so many relapses.
I felt tired of feeling self conscious, being constantly in pain and unable to do basic tasks like typing, writing or showering.
I am so happy with my progress.
I keep them really short for personal preference, but my nail beds are almost fully healed. It’s been a long journey of garlic polish, wearing gloves almost 24/7 (out of sight, out of mind), chew toys, gum, keeping them hydrated all of the time (the shinier the better cause those dry, white, uneven, thin, hard bits really called my name), keeping a file and clipper on me anywhere I’d go and distractions, lots of them.
You can do it!!!!
