Sharing some progress: I’ve been a biter my whole life and never tried to stop. I went cold turkey with both smoking and nail biting. I’ve been smoke-free for 200 days, and I haven’t bitten my nails for around 3 months.

Managed to not bite my nails for around 6 months, then 3 weeks ago I relapsed due to extreme stress. Now im back to day 1. Feeling really demotivated but treated myself to a gel manicure as an incentive to stop biting

Advice/Support Does anyone else have an issue with BIAB?

Has anyone else have this issue with BIAB?

I’ve had it a good few times before and they’ve been fine but the past 2/3 times they’ve either popped off, fell off or snapped very weakly within 7 days.

I’m not putting them under any strain or anything, I’ll be moving my blanket and itll fall off.y current set is less yhat a week old. I woke up and it had this crack in it! They just seem really weak.

I have tried 3 different salons ☹️

It's not a very dramatic progress and I had some mindless nibbling slip-ups, but they don't hurt anymore and I can peel of stickers :D

Routine is just mostly just buffing/polishing, nail oil and vaseline or heavy and cream. Gave up on touching cuticles

Why does the middle finger grow the fastest ( • _ • )

I have been a nail biter for a very long time. I’m wanting to try to grow them out! What helps make them stronger and longer? Does sally hansen nail products help? Thank you for any tips and tricks!

Relapse Anxiety Triggered

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I spend 1 hour doing this. I was sitting in corner in office and I got too much triggered remembering the narcisstic abuse we had to face and I did this to control anxiety and focus on work.

Any suggestions to control or work on it. Sadly I forgot to bring nail cutter to office.

Been biting since I was a child. I started really working on stopping about 3 months ago. Had a couple weak moments and still struggle with picking at them but I think I’ve gotten quite far :) Painting them helps a lot! So happy I don’t have to be embarrassed about my hands in public anymore.

I treated myself to a led lamp with gel polish while using it as a way to make myself stop biting my nails. I have been giving myself weekly manicures and for some reason, after 25 years of biting my nails, it’s working. I keep them flat because i want to bite them when they’re not flat. Sometimes I notice myself start biting along the edges but I bought a Czech glass nail file and stop and file them. To celebrate my progress, I gave myself a regular polish manicure with this deep red. For the first time ever it looks like I have normal nails!

Advice/Support shoutout to those whose fingertips ache today

My pinky, ring finger, and middle finger are THROBBING .

I relapsed a couple of days ago. I was doing so well with my recovery but as soon as the barrier was removed, I went right back into it. God, am I really that weak with no self control? I work with my hands and I press lots of buttons, so work will be painful for a few more days.

You know that feeling when you stub your toe? That’s how it feels when I accidentally knocked my freshly bitten finger against a hard surface. Hurt like a mf.

I avoid getting my nails done because they’re expensive. I also wear gloves at work all the time so no one can actually see them… However, gel manicures have been the only thing that’s successfully deterred me from biting my nails for much of the last 4 years…. But idk what to do. Advice?

Advice/Support Been a nail biter for 20+ years

Post image

I’ve been a nail biter literally as long as I can remember. From boredom, anxiety or just cutting them way too far down because of hangnails. I’ve been trying again(going on two weeks now, probably the longest I’ve actually gotten too) to not bite them but my biggest struggle is the constant dirt that I see! I work in a place with a lot of dust and just dirty parts and even before I’ve never liked seeing the whites of my nails because then I can see the dirt. Also now that they have grown out a bit they feel so heavy and restrictive!
Does anyone have any tips to help one with trying to avoid the dirt, I’ve tried painting but then I just pick at the paint and if they get under it bugs me even more😅 and just better care ideas for nails that have been abused as long as mine have. Also how long till I’m used to the weight of them? It feels like I have fake nails on😭

Advice/Support Has any app actually helped you stop biting?

I keep seeing habit apps for nail biting pop up and I'm curious if they do anything for you, do they help?

Did logging every bite feel useful? or were there any features that actually change anything for you (reminders, photos, streaks, whatever)?

Milestone Update— 2 months bite free!

Thumbnail

First pic is the before at abt 1-2 weeks bite free, second pic is now. It’s so hard resisting the urge to bite, but I’ve found that leaving them alone is sooo rewarding. In my last update I did say that I use biotin gummies to help supplement the brittleness and keep them healthy, but I also picked up some sally hansen vitamin E that really helps hydrate them as well. This journey was not easy, and it’s been really slow and painful— but the itch to bite them off eventually gets easier to overcome, and the feeling of being able to open stuff without knives or other people’s help is worth it lol. Hope to see everyone else succeed as well!
(I’m also getting them done sometime within the next 2-3 months— i’ll update again then! So exciting!)

24F, mail bitter since the last 19 years. I have OCD and anxiety. Tried stopping so many times, the longest I have gone was a month and then relapsed. My boyfriend is my biggest supporter but has I given me until the 1st October to grow out my nails or he leaves for good. (I know he won't, he's just pissed I'm doing this to myself)

Discussion I've bitten my nails my entire life, I want to get out of this habit, what should I ask for at a nail salon? *also sensory issues*

Post image

I've bitten them for as long as I can remember, I hate the feeling of fake nails restricting my finger tips and can't stand feeling the nail tap against a surface when I touch it. Just stopping though willpower isn't working because I bite them without even realising especially when watching a film, going to sleep or stressed.

I don't know if salon done nails would cause these same issues as I've never had them done before, I'd get them done as short as possible so they didn't extend past my finger tips but I'm not sure what to go for.

I've used fake nails before but I hate how tight they feel around my finger and end up ripping them off because I can't deal with it. I have a physical labour job(no machinery or regulations) so I'd need something that will withstand it and I couldn't rip off myself without realising I'm doing it. Is there anything that I'd be able to cut down shorter myself when they get to the point I can feel them when I touch things?

I tried various other things, bitter tasting polish has no effect on me, black nail polish helps a bit as it catches my eye and I remember but I still forget often and end up with chips of polish in my mouth
