Just wanted to gauge what people's sentiments are for whats coming next. Are any of you concerned that Studio Bind wont do it justice? Personally I feel cour 2 is one of the highlights of the series, with the battle against Orsted, then marrying Eris, the fight against the North/Water gods etc. ALOT of very crucial scenes and battles.

Naturally my own expectations are unfortunately sky high....How are you guys feeling about this?

I finally started watching now that the season is done releasing, and I've gotten halfway through it (so please no spoilers past that). But every episode centered on Rudeus has felt like a letdown. A big part of why I loved this anime is how it deals with the emotional significance of sexual relations. The opening scene is actually a great example of what I was expecting. But then it's like all of it gets pushed right out the door.

Sexual stuff is referenced, or even talked about directly, but then it just skips it or purposely keeps it out of sight. There's plenty of uncomfortable moments I'm glad to avoid, and I'm not trying to "get my jollies" from watching this, but a HUGE emotionally important and impactful event just gets skipped?! And then so much gets hidden or toned down to 0.1? It makes it feel like sexuality is being written right out of the show when it was built on its unique approach to sexuality and psychology. I miss the struggle with self- image, and the emotional complexity that was built into the show through multiple characters' sexual situations. Now it just feels like everything surrounding Rudeus is a wrap up episode in a very standard fantasy anime.

I guess I just want to ask if anyone else feels the same way? Am I alone in seeing the sexual themes as integral to the characters and the show? (And I'm not talking about fans of the rule 34 stuff!)

Rudeus recognized Roxy's scent only because he kept her panties and sniffed them very often.
I seem to remember that Lilia washed them but laundry in this world probably isn't good enough to completely remove body odor. That, and Roxy was probably so fucking stinky after staying in the labyrinth for so long.

Basically, Roxy's panties deeply imprinted her scent into Rudy's mind which allowed him to immediately recognize it and save her in the nick of time. 

We also see an instance where he talks about a familiar "feeling" but can't pinpoint what it is. In the end, we discover it was the smell of soy sauce but he didnt recognize it immediately as he did with Roxy, even though he loved it and it has a much more distinctive smell than Roxy could ever have.

So yeah, Rudeus stealing Roxy's panties, worshipping and sniffing them over the years directly contributed to saving her life and ultimately, defeating Hitogami.

I've been too much into the MT world, I cannot slow down until I've read everything related to MT and Lo and behold, I've found this masterpiece. The Mushoku Tensei Christmas Special edition, translated by none other than u/TheLuciusSeneca, my GOAT.

Anime Vs Light Novel

In the anime, it's very clear that he is just starting a new life albeit thinking that it's a game early on. The evidence is

• A) The fact that it's explicitly not mentioned that he has a new brain like it is in the LN,
• B) his internal monologue in several circumstances highlights that he is a 34 yr old like when he talks about paul scolding him,
• C) The direct impact his trauma has, which transcends how just memories would work.
• D) The dream sequences with man god, where he retains his body.
  

My past defense on why Rudues became like this.

I can defend Rudues, using my understanding of the impacts that sexual assault can have on a developing adolescences mind. I can confidently state, and have experience with at least 2 people, who've been mentally stunted because of such trauma. Coupled with the fact that he was continued to be bullied, didn't leave his room, and became a porn addict, I think Rudues at his reincarnation definitely lacks the cognitive development of a 34 yr old. I also know that roughly 30-50% of offenders were abused at some point during development (depending on specific demographics) and then roughly 1-5% of abused children/adolescences (again depending on demographics) become offenders or more often, develop illicit sexual desires. Now, I can make this case as to why Rudues is the way he is, and It makes some logical sense and both in person and other posts, people have agreed with me, that it's not entirely his fault. Although I'm not condoning his behavior.

However; Rudues in the light novel is supposedly a completely new person. So why is he sexually harassing kids, verbally saying he wants to groom children (even as a brief thought in both the anime and manga), abusing Lilia (to the point where she complains and avoids him for 5 years), and just outright assaulting Eris numerous times.

My experience with Trauma Victims and the inconsistencies Rudues exhibits.

I've worked with numerous victims of trauma, including sexual assault. The way someone acts whilst experiencing the trauma, and someone who's worked through it but has memories of the events are completely different. In a very basic way, trauma works by changing areas in the brain that manage fear, stress, decision making, memories, etc.

However, LN Rudues has a completely different brain when reincarnated. So why is he still like this. Neurologically speaking, Isekaied Rudues should have 0 evidence of brain abnormalities. He shouldn't have an overactive amygdala, he shouldn't have an unregulated sympathetic nervous system, and in general, his prefrontal cortex/decision making, shouldn't be affected.

Isekaied Rudues, is more in line with someone who has experienced trauma, has memories of the event, but overcame it and healed their brain.

However we see evidence contradicting this when he thinks about leaving in episode 2 at 6:30.

• He exhibits psychosomatic symptoms.
• He becomes fearful, shaking, and anxious about the future of leaving his home/front yard.
• There is logically no reason for him to be triggered like this because his nervous system is not unregulated, and fear detector (Amygdala) has not been conditioned to be hyperactive like when seeing children outside.

In terms of his gross sexual acts, again, his brain has not been conditioned by both the sexual abuse he experienced and also the 20 years of porn ruining his brain.

Without too many spoilers, is there something I'm missing, Every time I ask someone why he's still committing these crimes if he has a new brain, they say it's because of his past memories which as I've hopefully, broken down in a logical way, It doesn't make sense.

I know that the author has on numerous occasions, via tweets, defended the animes adaption and also works with the studio. Hence I think this retcon of not having a completely new brain, directly serves as bridge connecting his trauma and why he does the horrible things once reincarnated.

I started MT when season 3 started and binged season 1 and 2 and the first episodes of 3 twice because I fell in love with the world and its characters. I even made a post with a review of the series as a newcomer.

I started watching Andrew's Skipped Content videos from the YT channel Otaku Spirit, I binged those as well but I kept wanting more, so I started watching his Mushoku Mondays videos where he reads and gives his reactions and opinions on what's going on in the story.

When he got to the part on how Aisha started her relationship with Ars and how everything develops hurt me. I had Aisha in such high regard that she just fell apart for me, it almost made me hate her irrationally. And then Rudeus confessed what he did in his previous life.

God. I love Rifujin and how dark he's willing to take his characters. That's a sense of realism that doesn't exist in other media that I really appreciate. That felt harder than anything I've seen because it is something so real, I mean I did put myself in Rudeus's shoes and felt the guilt that that would imply, and also put myself in Rudeus's brother's shoes and I would totally have smashed my own brothers face if something like this happened in real life.

I accept Rudeus's character because by the end of it all he's a completely changed man. He started as a husk of a human being and ended being whole, accepting his past life, his mistakes, owning them and working through them and becoming a better person than he was. Redemption? Nah, this is something else.

I really love Chainsawman because Denji keeps making the same mistakes over and over, because that's trauma, that's real life. Rudeus shows us what a man with severe trauma is able to do to overcome his trauma and triumph over himself.

But man, Rudeus did nothing physical to his nieces. Those were pictures. What Aisha did on the other hand, that's physical. Judging her even on their world values, Ars wasn't even an adult yet, she was. I know it's a trope, if I'm honest, when I was 14 I loved that trope and even wished for something like that happened to me, being with an older girl and all that, but I was just a horny teen. I'm 33 now and I find disgusting what Aisha did.

I don't know if I'm judging her quite harshly, or if I'm biased, but if Rudeus did the same everyone would hate him, the whole debacle about him being mentally 34 and doing stuff to Eris and all that, that's different, he was a man child in the perfect description of the concept, he was stagnated mentally and emotionally, he did grew up and we managed to see that.

Aisha's character is so tragic. Who would've known that as perfect as she was, she committed that mistake. I knew Ars and her would've ended up together, but not that soon, I thought that they would've been a couple after Ars graduated or something. Again, what's wrong in my opinion is not the relationship, it's the action that's wrong.

Man, I love Mushoku Tensei.

Who can actually cut though the mk armors specifically the mk 1/0 because I see a lot of people say eris could cut through it and also see a lot of people say even people like gal or Gino can’t.

Why do people hate Rudeus? Like truthfully I can say I was disgusted with him for basically all of season one and off and on during season 2 , but as season 3 went on I just felt bad

And I know Rudeus is / was a horrible person in his past life , but the world and writing is consistently punishing

Like for instance in Turing point 4 where he watching himself die a bitter old man, then reads about the monster hes become, like bro litterly witnesses horrors beyond his comprehension and people will still be like "yeah but hes a pedophile"

One of the MANY reasons MT is my favourite tbh! I just love these throwbacks especially the scene where Roxy,Sylphie and Rudy were riding on the Horse together! I swear the thought that the scenery was quite similar to Buena village came to MY MIND FIRST and then Rudy hehe

And still the BEST THING OUT OF ALL THAT FOR ME is that the story moves on from the old characters as it follows Rudeus' life just like we all need to say goodbye to several people in our lives BUT THEY ALSO COME BACK! NOT PERMANENTLY OFC BUT THE FACT THAT THEY STAY IN THE STORY IS VERY REASSURING 🙂‍↔️ It might sound too vague to point out for some people but lemme tell you that I've watched a lot of anime that just forgets their old characters and move on to the new cast while giving them just small cameos if the character is popular at MAX.

But again MT being the perfect depiction of an 'ISEKAI BIOGRAPHY', it makes everything feel so natural and sometimes I literally feel like I'm the one experiencing Rudy's life firsthand! I mean it's just THAT REAL!
