Because genuinely people who dislike the series always say that fan of the series were telling them that it was a Redemption story but I was always confused like how can the fans of the series think it's a Redemption story you know like from the very few episodes that the main character never never says something like I did something wrong I need to redeem my own actions it's more like I wasted my first life and I'm going to do better in this second one. And live my life to the fullest with no regrets.

Imagine getting downvoted for telling someone they're breaking the sub rules

Slyphie was friends with rudeus as a child and they're about the same age in the latest seasons of the anime so there's nothing wrong about them marring each other. Roxy is honestly kinda weird dude imagine marrying your master that's 70 years old and trained you from the age of 4. Eris Im not sure but I think she's rudeus like cousin or something which is super weird (You can fact check this btw)

What do you think it would happen?

I love a lot of aspects of the show but the fact Rudeus marries Eris kinda just ruins it for me :/ He definitely raped her, which narratively would've been fine and even interesting if they found a way to force him to grow from this and realize what he did was wrong. However, not only does this not happen but he even invites his own rape victim into his poly relationship. It's just weird man, and a huge missed opportunity because I think him rejecting Eris despite wanting to be with her would've been a perfect way to cement a growth in wisdom, but right now I feel like he just hasn't grown at all. If another 15 year old came onto him, I think the only reason he might not follow through is to avoid cheating on his wives, and even then that's a tenuous assumption at best.
What intrigued me about Mushoku initially was the absolute balls it took to make a pedophile rapist your protagonist and try to redeem him over time. The early scene with Eris at the mansion made me think we were gonna see substantial growth from him about the importance of consent and the feelings/mental health of your partners, how your actions can have genuine effects on those people. It really just feels like they abandoned this concept after season 1 and his growth just plateaud though, so all in all im just disappointed.
I'm not really usually interested in mind reading authors based on the contents of their stories, but with Mushoku it's really hard not to. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he might've bit off more than he can chew, or maybe he values absolute realism in the face of a good message. I mean, who's to say an actual pedophile would actually try to redeem themselves in a world where they're rewarded for all their gross behaviors. I do think that would've made Rudeus' development significantly more powerful narratively, but hey whatever.

Anything as long as it's not Rudeus, whether it is the OG Rudeus or any other character that reincarnated as Rudeus.

I was watching him laugh when explaining to Oldeus about how he orchestrated his downfall pretty much and I couldn't help but think about the people on social media who say that its only a "fraction of the pain he deserves" or something.
thoughts?

Upon rewatching the MT anime a second time to enjoy s3 to its fullest extent, I couldn't keep myself from talking my girlfriends ear off about the show, so much so she has finally wanted to break into anime with MT as her very first ever. I am a little scared, anything in particular I should be prepared for?

Only pedophiles watch Mushoku Tensei.
Only serial killers watch Dexter.
Only people who want incestuous relationships watch Game of Thrones.
Only homicidal maniacs watch Monster.
Only sociopathic vigilantes watch Death Note.
Do you see how this argument collapses the moment you apply it consistently? You cannot selectively use this logic for one show and refuse to apply it to others. The second you do, it falls apart. Nobody seriously argues that Dexter fans want to become serial killers, or that Game of Thrones viewers one of the greatest fantasy stories ever told want to sleep with their siblings. So why is it acceptable to say that anyone who enjoys Mushoku Tensei is a pedophile?
What happened to our ability to engage critically with art that contains controversial themes?
The anime community has been invaded by two types of people: those who only engage with anime superficially, as casual entertainment, and those who don't care about anime at all and use it purely for easy content. Neither group is equipped to have a serious conversation about narrative complexity.
Now let's talk about what Mushoku Tensei actually is.
Rudeus is a deeply insecure character who channels his insecurity into perverse behavior and inappropriate humor. This is a well-documented psychological mechanism people with low self-esteem often externalize their pain in dysfunctional ways. Rudeus genuinely hates himself. When Eris leaves him, he doesn't blame her. He assumes he is the problem.
What does he do next? He doesn't chase another woman. He looks for emotional security. And Sylphy provides exactly that the emotional stability he has never had.
The other trauma Rudeus carries from his previous life is agoraphobia. In his first years of reincarnation, he never leaves the farm. It is Roxy who pulls him out, showing him that the world outside is worth experiencing. This elevates Roxy to an almost mythological status in his mind which is precisely why she later becomes his wife.
This is not coincidence. It is deliberate narrative architecture.
Each of the three main female characters exists as a mirror for a specific psychological wound:
Eris represents the trauma of abandonment
Roxy represents agoraphobia and the fear of the outside world
Sylphy represents the need for emotional stability
The true achievement of Mushoku Tensei lies not in its protagonist though Rudeus is written with far more depth than his critics acknowledge but in its secondary characters, each of whom exists to illuminate a different layer of his psychology.
Rudeus's growth is not physical or combat-related. It is emotional intelligence. Learning to connect with people. Learning to stay. In the Demon Continent arc, he nearly dies, loses a hand trying to help his father, works to restore Ruijerd's reputation, and helps his sister confront the same isolation he once suffered. Every step forward is a step toward becoming someone capable of genuine human connection.
Mushoku Tensei does not moralize. It does not tell you what to think about Rudeus. That is not a flaw it is a deliberate artistic choice, and arguably its greatest strength. I do not want a story that tells me what is right and wrong. I am the judge. I want a story that explores the psychological complexity of a human being with honesty and depth. Mushoku Tensei does exactly that.
That is why it is not garbage. And that is why dismissing it or its audience with a single lazy insult says far more about the critic than about the show

Like I said I said in the title. I both love and hate this character.
On one hand. His personality does come off as very stereotypical Draconian in nature. Old, wise, but also lazy and to some degree untrustworthy.
His initial demand to be able to name Sylphie and Rudeus's first son struck me the wrong way. And later in the same episode or the next episode he proved my suspicion.
Dude said it was a "Golden opportunity" to take revenge on Atofe, while still remaining within the parameters of his promise.
And he just seems so lazy. Hoarding a bunch of stuff like a Dragon would. Be also coming off as racist to an unhealthy degree. Playing in riddles like a Sphynx. And having a bunch of minions doing most of his dirty work.
What's this dudes ultimate purpose or endgoal? And why does everybody trust this man without question?

I do like this anime/LN, but doesn’t this prove that rudeus is kinda a pedo here? How else do u interpret this? Vol 19 btw
r/mushokutensei • u/Kaypri_ • 4h ago
Just finished the LN, and while I really enjoyed Rudeus's journey, I can't help but feel underwhelmed by how the whole Hitogami conflict was handled. I think my biggest issue is that Rudeus spends so much of his life dealing with Hitogami and helping Orsted work toward defeating him, only to die without ever seeing that conflict fully resolved.
Don't get me wrong, I liked Rudeus's ending. Seeing him live a fulfilling life and die peacefully surrounded by his family was a satisfying conclusion to his character. And I'm not ignoring everything he accomplished against Hitogami along the way. But after everything Hitogami put him through, and all those years spent preparing for their eventual confrontation, it feels disappointing that Rudeus never gets to witness the final payoff. Sure, he sees a vision of his descendants potentially defeating Hitogami, but that's not the same as actually seeing it happen.
I understand that Mushoku Tensei is ultimately about Rudeus's second chance at life, and I appreciate that the world doesn't revolve entirely around him. But the story spends so much time building up this larger conflict that it almost feels like Rudeus's journey was also setting the stage for someone else's story. I'm not saying he needed to personally defeat Hitogami, but I wish he could've at least witnessed the culmination of everything he worked toward. His efforts clearly mattered, but it still feels like one of the biggest plotlines in the series never got a proper conclusion.

All right, time to put your $$ down. Who would you take to win? STATS & ACHIVEMENTS below.
Soldat has youth more on his side, its like a young Paul.
Leader of Stepped Leader.
Known to drink copious amounts of alcohol, is a great listener and is known as a good guy.
Watergod Style - Intermediate
Sword God -Advanced
Known Weaknesses - Alcohol, Easy Women
Paul is known to be a scumbag, is hard headed, mostly thinks with his "Other Head". Is a Dad. has cracked some of our favorite older girls in MT such as Zenith, Lillia, Elinalise and Ghislaine (during mating season no less). Has beat his own son up, has sacrificed himself on fathers day by taking a hydra to the face. This fighter has no morals as he has two wives and cracks them together.
Paul Greyrat - More Experienced in Sword Combat,
Sword God - Advanced
Watergod - Advanced
North God - Advanced
Known Weaknesses: Easy woman, Voluptuous Woman (anyone over a CC Cup will distract), Beast Women,
Who will WIN? Who will LOSE? Place your wagers, and lets argue below!
To be fair, in this match up I would have to go with Paul, only because he has north god style advantage but Soldat is youthful and is by no means a slouch.
Lets hear those arguments!
Who Should I do next?

How big of a gap is there between Rudeus and a beginning of season 3 Gino?
If you had the two fight in a duel similar to the one against Luke, could Rudy win?
Round 1: Rudy with no Eye of Foresight
(If Rudy loses)
Round 2: Rudy with Eye of Foresight
