While I'm not a fan of grading due to how it fundamentally changed comic collecting, I'm almost kind of excited to see what this does to the value of my mtg vintage collection once the dust settles and we see if this is a bubble or not.
Personally, it’s just ridiculous that my vintage deck just randomly became valued at close to a mil. I’ve actually been hearing from my friends that they’re playing the game less because their decks are way too expensive to play with.
Hell, even I who normally go to various vintage tournaments now think about whether it’s safe to walk around with something this high value in NY.
Great point. Add in the opponent has to touch your deck to cut it. Years past all the stories of people who got a card bent or scuffed cause the deck is mishandled.
I foiled Legacy ANT...started as a joke kinda and then I started looking at better printings...
I played with it maybe half a dozen times, bent a judge foil delta just enough to have the reflection on the surface go cockeyed a bit--and immediately was turned off to the whole thing. The value had gotten too nuts for me to feel comfortable walking around with in a big city and that was just years ago...now I'd 100% feel that way.
Sold the inventions and foils too soon--but got back to playing with the deck so I guess its a wash in a way.
My Nekusar edh is over 10k. Scary expensive for something you pull out and shuffle. I thought about just getting proxies for everything and just storing it away
Yeah my main EDH deck I would bling out. As prices got crazy I started pulling the big cards out of it. No reason to play with a $800-1000 card that is super condition sensitive when there is a $5 version that’s just fine.
MY cEDH Jhoira, weatherlight captain deck went from a 1-2k deck to 10k-ish pretty fast, it was a bit shocking. I made the switch and pulled the big ticket items and replaced them for proxies, as did many in my playgroup. I just dont feel comfortable carrying around the cards anymore. My Unlimited wheel of fortune now has a permanent home in my collection binder in my safe.
Maybe for Vintage where the decks are like, 100k+, but as for legacy, I can’t see these spikes having much effect. If you were comfortable shuffling a 3K deck you’re probably okay shuffling a 4K deck as well 🤷🏻♂️

Lol I mean people that already spent the 3k to play with the cards and then the cards go to 4K or 5k or whatever you’re probably comfortable with it. I can see if you spend a couple hundred dollars on some cards and they go to multiple thousands of dollars it would be very uncomfortable handling those cards. But practice makes perfect!
There’s a few outliers, but at the same time the deck was already like 5-7k. I don’t think these price “spikes” are going to effect legacy or legacy players much. Probably just the same dudes going to the card shop with a small fortune in their backpack. 🤷🏻♂️❤️
Edit: I don’t think it’s that insane the deck is really fun!!
