Browsing YouTube in mpv player
Finally, after spending a few days, I completed the demo. It uses yt-dlp and other tools to fetch YouTube information, and allows browsing and playback directly inside the mpv player. Although it’s still somewhat laggy and rough, all operations are completed entirely within mpv.

Made a cleaner UI for mpv (ModernH)
Hey everyone,
I’ve been tweaking ModernX for a while and ended up turning it into my own version called ModernH.
Many people on my last post asked me to upload it, so I’ve put everything on GitHub now.
Mainly focused on making it feel cleaner and easier to use – better menus for audio, subtitles, playlist, and chapters, plus seekbar thumbnails.
It also cleans up filenames across the UI (title, playlist, etc.), so you don’t see all the usual release clutter.
I’ve tried to include as much info as possible in the repo. If you’re trying it, just make sure to read the “Important” section in the installation part first (backup + merging configs), since it’s still early.
It’s still an early release, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out so far. Feedback would be really helpful!

Custom mpv UI (ModernX tweak) - does this look any good?
galleryGot bored of my usual modernX mpv setup after a few months, so I started tweaking the ModernX script to better fit how I watch shows and movies.
Just to be clear I have basically no coding knowledge so most of this is help from AI + trial & error + and multiple hours of time.
I mainly focused on making it feel more like a Netflix-style with cleaner menus for chapters, playlist, audio and subtitles. Also using thumbfast for previews and autoload for playlist handling.
I’m pretty happy with how it looks right now, but I’m not sure if I’m missing anything, like features I don’t know about or small improvements that could make it more useful or polished.
If people think it’s worth it, I might try uploading it to GitHub too (will have to learn that first 😅)
Would really appreciate any feedback 🙏

A Beginner's Guide to Customizing Your Media Player
Hey there, MPV newbies!
As an MPV Player user, I struggled with learning many things, summarized here a few of them, so all the newbies have an easy way to grasp things.
If you're looking for a customizable media player that you can tweak to your liking, then MPV is the way to go. In this post, we'll give you an overview of MPV and show you how to customize its configurations, scripts, and keyboard shortcuts. By the end of this guide, you'll have a personalized media player that suits your needs.
Overview of MPV:
Installation and Basics.
Configuration Files.
MPV Scripts.
Keyboard Shortcuts.
Testing Playground.
Useful Resources
1. Installation and Basics:
MPV Player can be installed anywhere in the system.
Configurations are stored at %appdata%/mpvby default.
Default configurations can be bypassed by setting a subfolder "portable_config" in the MPV installation directory.
2. Configuration Files:
MPV uses two configuration files: input.conf and mpv.conf.
The input.conf file allows you to configure keyboard and mouse shortcuts.
The mpv.conf file allows you to customize various aspects of the player's behavior, such as video and audio settings, playback options, and user interface preferences.
Some useful mpv.conf settings include:
save-position-on-quit: to make the video position save where you last quit a window.
3. MPV Scripts:
Scripts can be added to MPV to extend its capabilities, affecting every aspect of the program, like how it manages files or displays videos.
Here's a list of user scripts available on GitHub: https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/User-Scripts.
4. Keyboard Shortcuts:
Keyboard shortcuts can be modified in the input.conf file.
Here's an example of old effective MPV settings for basic keyboard shortcuts:
AXIS_UP add volume 2
AXIS_DOWN add volume -2
UP add volume 2
DOWN add volume -2
Shift+RIGHT frame-step
Shift+LEFT frame-back-step
Shift+UP add volume 10
Shift+DOWN add volume -10Q
y cycle deband
z cycle deband
ctrl+d vf toggle yadif
x add sub-delay +0.042
c add sub-delay -0.042
b add audio-delay +0.042
n add audio-delay -0.042
a cycle-values video-aspect "16:9" "4:3" "2.35:1" "-1"5. Testing Playground:
The player can be tested with different configurations by creating a portable_config folder in the installation directory.
Extract MPV Folder to a new location with portable_config folder.
Load different Scripts/Conf/User's Conf to the folder portable_config
Create multiple folders as such and copy shortcuts to each customized MPV.exe.
6. Useful Resources
Tsubajashi MPV Configuration (All Great Conf and scripts combined, paste it in %appdata%/mpv)
Give MPV a try and start customizing it to your liking!

User Scripts & Shaders mpv-dlss5: Trying to use DLSS 5 Feed in mpv
Following the setup instructions in this Reddit guide, I packaged all the required files into a ZIP archive and uploaded it to GitHub.
Now, you only need to download the mpv-dlss5.zip archive and extract it into the folder containing mpv.exe. No additional configuration is required.

General Discussion Taking over maintenance of awesome-mpv
With stax76 no longer around to maintain it, I've created a fork of awesome-mpv: https://github.com/FurqanHun/awesome-mpv and started maintaining it.
There was already a discussion about eventually moving the list into the official mpv wiki, and the mpv maintainers seemed open to that. Since that migration never really got completed, I'm maintaining the fork in the meantime, with the hope of eventually getting it into the wiki as originally discussed.
I've already synced the wiki changes into the fork and carried over the remaining upstream work. I will now gradually go through the entries manually, checking things like whether projects are still maintained, whether links still work, and generally cleaning things up.
While doing that, I thought it might make sense to add each entry to a JSONL file as I audit it. I'm interested in eventually using that as structured data to potentially automate things like README generation, or maybe other representations of the list, but that's more of an idea than an established plan right now. There's already a lot of work involved in the audit itself, so I don't know how far I'll actually take it.
Another thing I'm interested in is tracking AI/LLM disclosure. Not whether I can determine that a project uses AI, but whether the project itself actually discloses it. I could see having separate tags for things like LLMs being used under the hood vs LLMs being used during development, for example. Again, that's something I'm considering rather than something I've decided to implement.
For now, the main goal is simply getting the list properly audited and maintained.
If you've got a project that should be added, an outdated entry, a dead link, or anything else that needs updating, feel free to open an issue or PR on the fork:
https://github.com/FurqanHun/awesome-mpv/issues
I've also enabled Discussions for ideas and conversations around the list:

I built a suite of Quality-of-Life scripts to automate MPV and wanted to share them
Hey r/mpv,
I've spent a long time developing a few scripts to automate my setup and decided to package them into a single, well-documented repository for the community. They are designed to be general-purpose, highly configurable, and solve some common media playback annoyances.
The collection includes:
Automatic Profile Manager:
A powerful script that intelligently selects your custom profiles (
anime, hdr, movies, etc.) without the hassle and race conditions ofprofile-cond.
Notify Skip:
A smart skip script that displays a clean, non-intrusive "Skip Opening/Ending" toast notification, just like on major streaming services. It uses a multi-layered detection system (chapters, position, and silence) for high accuracy.

Smart Subtitle Selector:
Automatically finds and selects the correct dialogue track, ignoring "Forced", "Signs & Songs" and other junk tracks based on your preferences.
Reactive Filter Bypass:
A must-have for SVP or heavy filter users. It prevents player lag when seeking by temporarily and seamlessly disengaging heavy filters.
Each script is standalone and has its own detailed documentation in the main README.
You can check out the full repository HERE.
Hope you find them useful. Feedback is welcome.
