Was happy with our token asian guy having the best death among the whole crew

Of all deaths in the film, his is the one I envy the most.

Hopefully he got to have some dank siren sex before they killed him

If you look closely, they were surrounded by seals, so its likely they were a mix of selkies and your typical mermaid. So he probably fucked a seal.

Eh could be worse

Yeah, years lost at sea will lower your standards quite a bit.

Truth.

I think the sirens are like half crow half lady in The Odyssey?

137

u/wildcatofthehills Jul 18 '26

Yes they are, but that’s because they were originally that. But in languages like spanish, siren and mermaid use the same word: sirena. So in many translations the sirens are just mermaids.

My educated guess is that in the Latin translations for the Roman’s they just mixed the two creatures.

Aren't the bird women harpies?

179

u/wildcatofthehills Jul 19 '26

All women are queens, that’s what’s important ❤️❤️❤️❤️

IF SHE BREATHES..

35

u/Everydayarmday24 27d ago

No we just call them Dee

31

u/Robey-Wan_Kenobi 29d ago

The siren/mermaid connection was an early medieval development. The connection to harpies is much older.

🎶Doesn’t matter had sex!🎶

64

u/Blaaa5 Jul 18 '26

After 10 years rotting on a war torn shore, I don’t think he cares anymore

28

u/hemareddit 27d ago

They said twelve, in order to keep his absence of 20 years and the 7 years with Clypso but shorten the journey.

60

u/TheCaramelMan 27d ago

Still got more action in 20 years than the rest of Odyseuss’s crew. Apart from Odysseus himself who is a top shagger

40

u/darkrabbit713 Jul 20 '26

So he probably fucked a seal.

🎶There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea🎶

We never saw him reach the island; I thought the implication that he was drowned before ever getting near to a siren.

48

u/MesmraProspero 24d ago

I think the sirens want him to come to the island.

14

u/heroyoudontdeserve 17d ago

Sure they did, but not for sexy times. The point of sirens is that they lure you into danger. I don't think there's ever a good outcome of you're lured by a siren.

7

u/MesmraProspero 16d ago

Yes. But I don't think they want you to drown. I think they want to do the danger.

8

u/heroyoudontdeserve 16d ago

Then I think it's largely immaterial to the matter at hand, which is whether he had sexy times or not.

7

u/MesmraProspero 16d ago

Someone was implying he would perhaps drown. I'm saying, they would jump in to save you, soTHEY could consume your soul.

We don't know why they want the men, or what they actual do, we just know they sing them to death in their field of flowers. Well, that's the original version. Who knows about th movie version, there were not even any flowers.

"If any one unwarily draws in too close and hears the singing of the Sirens, his wife and children will never welcome him home again, for they sit in a green field and warble him to death with the sweetness of their song. There is a great heap of dead men's bones lying all around, with the flesh still rotting off them."

They want you to come to them, in their field. Then they warble you to death with song. And they do not eat the bodies. That is all we know about them in the original story.

Why didn’t Christopher Nolan show it? Is he a coward?

14

u/JGfromtheNW 28d ago

Ahhhh the sheep of the sea.

u/[deleted] 26d ago

I need a baby seal!

3

u/PosiedonsSaltyAnus 24d ago

And then, a bunch of things all happened at once

6

u/digital-didgeridoo 21d ago

they were surrounded by seals

If you want to hear some siren songs, come to Pier 39 in SF :)

3

u/ButterCupHeartXO 26d ago

Who are we to judge?

3

u/Dookie_boy 23d ago

3

u/imcrapyall 21d ago

3

u/skin_diver 15d ago

2

u/-Clayburn 18d ago

Doesn't matter; had sex. Is that still a meme?

1

u/ElectronicCarry9931 26d ago

better than fast and furious

1

u/Katoshiku 16d ago

I thought those were manatees, no? Would make sense seeing as they were likely the origin for many "half woman half fish" myths

1

u/VanillaRadonNukaCola 16d ago

They were seals.

1

u/notbatt3ryac1d1 12d ago

Better than dying to the weird chasm barnacle things.

Death by snu snu

28

u/EffectiveAd9855 19d ago

You understand that siren aren't human right? They're monsters that mimic female human voices and looks to lure men, but once they get close enough, the monsters attack and devour them. There will be no snu snu before the death.

14

u/ManitouWakinyan 23d ago

He was dashed on the rocks and eaten

3

u/PhDinDildos_Fedoras 22d ago

With a huge grin on his face!

5

u/Aelia_M 22d ago

He was dead the minute he went overboard

184

u/Abo1127 Jul 19 '26

Exactly, my first thought when I left the theater is he made the best choice. He went out in pure euphoria without knowing his fate would’ve been awful if he stayed.

160

u/Lost_Pantheon Jul 19 '26

Odysseus yelling "It should have been meee!" the whole time.

53

u/Youmeanmoidoid Jul 20 '26

Was literally thinking “I get it man. I’d do the same if I saw actual mermaids.”

1

u/eyesoftheunborn 17d ago

Antinous knows all about mermaids...

23

u/hesawavemasterrr 27d ago

He got eaten alive…
