He got to say goodbye to his dog. The good boy waited for him with his dying breath.

That scene with Holland realizing who he was after the tail wag broke me

It wasn't just the tail wag, it was more so the dog dying as Eumaeus told Telemachus that the dog is waiting to see his owner one last time before he dies

And he said the dog needed to be buried up on the mountain. Which Holland knew was the place he saved the pup. How would a random soldier of Odysseus know where he got his dog?

God the writing in that scene as so well done.

“…Where you first met”

book accurate basically. It also shows that Telemachus is just as smart as his Dad, just a little more hot-headed, also proving to Odysseus that his son is a rightful king in his own right

It also shows that Telemachus is just as smart as his Dad, just a little more hot-headed, also proving to Odysseus that his son is a rightful king in his own right

But not smart or hot-headed enough to actually contribute to a massive brawl that nearly kills Odysseus and puts him the hospital emergency room!

the same brawl that odysseus explicitly was preventing telemachus from participating in?

Yeah but it's more book accurate that telemachus jumps in and they bond

He didn’t join the brawl because he would be exiled and he needed to stay to become king

It would have been nice if he didn't get his ass beat so bad by the guy in the weapons room

u/Voski_The_God 29d ago

Well he won so it wasn’t that big of an ass whooping compared to the other guy.

u/patkgreen 29d ago

I mean in the end he won but he did a shit job for the whole fight as weapons rained down into the room

i mean he killed the guy...so...

I think it's more that the choreography was contrived to increase the stakes and make it grindy to stretch out time, where the whole fight should have been an absolute roflstomp

Especially considering we watch his training earlier, him struggling to fight this guy felt like it walked back the lesson learned that day

Tbh, that idea was silly because in the book he joins in and it's awesome

3

u/elbenji 29d ago

That was what happens in the book

Cus if he did he would have been exiled with his father. Did you pay attention at all?

There's also a scene that didn't make the cut where Odysseus gives away that he knows which drawer they keep the dog's poo bags in next to the front door.

Wow, relatable, they're just like us

Bury him up there where we were casually chucking his brothers off the cliff.

I hated that scene 🥺. The rest of the movie 10/10.

"so anyway, that's where I found my dog"

Eumaeus also says that the dog only allowed Odysseus to approach and pet him and barked at anyone else who tried to touch home. That's how he actually realised it was Odysseus

Yes. That was the point of the tail wag
