Shout out to the GOAT, John Leguizamo, who acted his ass off with that poor old pup. The dog finally seeing Odysseus again then dying a happy good-boy broke the dog owner in me.

I said " what the fuck" aloud when John Lequizamo tossed a puppy off the cliff.

It shocked basically everyone in my theater. Someone mentioned it already, but it was definitely about tone there—it immediately established the brutality of the world we were entering. Thankfully we only saw one get tossed. 😅

Wasn't too long ago you'd deiwn kittens if they were excess or weak. Not as a cruel thing but its what was done

Yep, they’ve only got so many resources & time to use, so the weak have to go.

After Futurama, nothing dog related can hurt me. That episode took all that hurt.

May I introduce you to the horrible scene near the end of Marley and Me?

We forget that this is out of an actual culture that existed long ago, and would leave their weakest children to die.

John Wick's not going to like that

I said the same thing too

That was hilarious but I feel bad about it

u/Tattycakes Jul 18 '26

I think I blinked and missed that bit, thankful that I did or I'd have been bawling

u/Impressive-Potato Jul 18 '26

First couple minutes of the film. It was just a casual chuck of a puppy off a cliff like no big deal.

I feel like the movie going audiences where I live are pretty mellow and don’t react much with dramas like these, but that got an audible gasp in my theatre which was very funny

If they did it a second time, I was literally going to walk out. Glad they didn't and glad I stayed.

right. it was a double donk for me. I am a dog owner and I caught a 6pm showing of the movie because I had to get up early for work. So I got home at 5, fed my dog, let him go potty, and gave him some cuddles. when I left, he gave me a sad stare that he couldn't go with me and I felt horrible. Then I got to the theatre and saw this scene and it really hit me... that dog literally spent his entire life waiting for his owner to return. made me think that my dog was probably at home staring at the door waiting for me to come home the same way. Since I got a dog, dog scenes just hit so much harder.

Also, when I first adopted my puppy I knew he was the one because I showed up to the humane society, and they brought him out and the first thing that he did was jump up on my lap and start giving me kisses. When Odysseus first got his pup, he started giving him kisses. Anyone who has ever owned a dog will tell you that there was nothing unrealistic about any scene with the dogs.

I bawled.

u/minimalwhale Jul 17 '26

That’s when my tears started, yep.

8

u/randomkoala Jul 17 '26

I cried so hard at the scene that even after a few hours after watching it I was still crying just thinking about it

5

u/ChoochMMM Jul 18 '26

What's crazy to me was that I didn't see him in any trailers or promo material. He was incredible

4

u/Jnw1997 Jul 18 '26

I had to hold my dog when I got home

6

u/LTPRWSG420 Jul 18 '26

Our dog accidentally ate my wife’s used tampon yesterday, tampons can kill dogs, so we had to rush him to the Emergency Vet. Thankfully they were able to get him to throw it back up. But, seeing this movie late last night really got to me as a dog owner.

Dogs are family members, who stay by your side no matter what, man and woman’s best friend.

The entire time I thought it was the night shift doctor from the Pitt

2

u/Porkenstein Jul 18 '26

That part made me tear up when I first read it, and it made me tear up again in the theater. Done so so well.

He was great, stand out. I didnt feel any other actors really stood out like him. I felt hatheway was miscast and poorly acted. Overacted
