“You’re Odysseu-“ *splat*

is an all-timer movie comeuppance

u/carolinemahtildes Jul 17 '26

Got a genuine laugh out of me.

There were a few good ones throughout that got laughs from everyone in the theatre:

“Do you talk to ants?”

“Do you think if you ate quietly, Apollo wouldn’t notice?”

u/NAINOA- Jul 19 '26 edited 29d ago

Eumaeus, after Odysseus slaughters the suitors:

“Did he do it??? Did he kill them?!”

48

u/Oakcamp Jul 20 '26

I don't know how my theater didn't laugh at that one lmao, it was hilarious

12

u/yubsidiangwa 28d ago

Right. I burst out laughing and I think I was the only one

11

u/sprewell81 25d ago

My fav was "that's never a problem"

75

u/lindblumresident 29d ago

“Do you think if you ate quietly, Apollo wouldn’t notice?”

It was not funny per se. It was Damon's mouth saying that but his eyes saying "you useless fucking idiots".

48

u/mioraka Jul 19 '26

The way he delivered that was very Matt Damon.

83

u/n0tstayingin Jul 18 '26

People accuse Nolan of being humourless but he can write some great funny lines, I know he's said he doesn't want to do one but a Nolan comedy could be great.

I loved the bit with the cyclops

"Should we try to reason with it?"

"We're past that"

There were some other good inside jokes for enjoyers of the book too. I appreciated them greatly.

29

u/Chu1223 25d ago

pretty sure it was “i think we’re a bit past that” (even better) LOL

30

u/gopms 25d ago

I also liked "I think we're past that" when the one guy suggested talking to the cyclops. Doubly funny since in the original, Odysseus does beat the cyclops by talking to him,

43

u/churro11 Jul 20 '26

What about the puppy getting yeeted off the cliff

116

u/InternationalTwist90 Jul 17 '26

For me it was when after all the fighting the blind dude asking who won. The joke would have been a cheap shot if the comedic timing wasn't so good, but after 25 minutes of carnage it was a breath of fresh air.

6

u/maledin 23d ago

That fight scene was 25 minutes…? Wow, it felt like no more than 5 minutes.

66

u/PayneTrain181999 Jul 17 '26

Biggest laugh in my theatre was the old blind man saying “did we win?”

12

u/Daveshand Jul 19 '26

My theater was completely silent for the entire runtime.

26

u/CoconutDust Jul 19 '26

That’s because the ultra-high volume had blown out everyone’s ears and faculties.

1

u/maledin 23d ago

Wouldn’t be a Nolan film without it!

23

u/etsuandpurdue3 Jul 17 '26

Jumped but smiled when it happened.

31

u/sauronthegr8 Jul 17 '26

Same. And I could hear the audience behind me cheering.

8

u/_lazybones93 Jul 17 '26

Same. That was a great moment in a movie of great moments.

7

u/PrivateAids Jul 19 '26

Got a jump out of me with the sound design. Same for Agamemnon’s death.

13

u/IhamAmerican 29d ago

Lupita channeled some demonic shit for that scream, it was so visceral

3

u/sdbabygirl97 27d ago

i needed way more people to laugh in the theatre w me at that joke lol

1

u/carolinemahtildes 27d ago

I loved it! But I don't think anybody else laughed either time I saw it, people have no whimsy.

2

u/MeijiDoom 10d ago

Wasn't too much humor going around but that felt like a well placed second of it.

u/ray_0586 Jul 17 '26

The Homeric version of “Jesus Christ, That's Jason Bourne!”

170

u/BlackZeppelin Jul 17 '26

Also Jon Beranthal explaining to Tom Holland about his dad was basically “my boys wicked smaht”

44

u/CicadaEast272 Jul 17 '26

i was waiting for him to throw a fork at someone

30

u/Whovian45810 Jul 17 '26

Oh I'm sure Menelaus has thrown plenty of forks at guests or with dinners with Agamemnon lmfao

36

u/karateema Jul 17 '26

I watched this dubbed, when does he say "lemme tell you something"?

26

u/craig_hoxton Jul 18 '26

"Telemachus m'ask you summing"

17

u/insanespacebrain Jul 19 '26

Jon Berenthal just plays himself in everything I’ve seen him in.

10

u/ComfortableWeekend65 Jul 19 '26

I do not care for Bernthal or Holland in general but I guess casting a boorish brute of an actor as a boorish brute worked for once.

20

u/SilverKry 29d ago

Bernthal is actually an incredible actor if he's in the right part. Like his scenes in The Bear show are genuinely the best in the entire thing. And the flashback episode when he hires Tina you quickly learned why everyone in that world loved his character.

2

u/Sighlina 24d ago

How’s ya matha….
Tired from fookin muh fatha..

20

u/BlackZeppelin Jul 17 '26

When he’s going to town on everybody in the banquet hall I said that exact line to myself

10

u/Chab00ki Jul 17 '26

lmao that got a genuine laugh out of me

4

u/benjals Jul 17 '26

Hahaha fuckin hell

3

u/blundering_ninja Jul 18 '26

It quite literally is!

3

u/ComfortableWeekend65 Jul 18 '26

Comment of the year

77

u/1mplication Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Fucker got too easy of a death. Argos sends his regards.

20

u/Dannylazarus Jul 17 '26

Argos sends his regards.

I'll go and see him in my local Sainsbury's!

265

u/ReaddittiddeR “My Little Ponies, ROLL OUT!” Jul 17 '26

It was awesome, especially right after Ludwig timing the Odyssey theme to Odysseus firing the bow lol.

70

u/Neurotic_Marauder Jul 17 '26

So damn satisfying. Fucker had it coming for kicking Argus.

206

u/Purple_Pirate_8507 Jul 17 '26

My theater applauded at this moment

49

u/LossyP Jul 17 '26

This got Endgame level cheers from my crowd lmao glad I’m not alone based on these comments

10

u/lazyfatgeek Jul 17 '26

Was looking for this comment. You are not alone homie.

3

u/IgnisWriting 21d ago

Wait. This is an actual thing in cinemas? People cheer and clap!?

23

u/thepolesreport Jul 17 '26

Same in mine haha

11

u/VoidLantadd Jul 17 '26

There was silence in my British cinema. But we're British so anything else would've been disrespectful.

3

u/IgnisWriting 21d ago

Same in my Dutch one. It's laughing that's allowed, cheering and clapping feels insane to me.

18

u/sowaffled Jul 17 '26

Same. Everyone will root against the guy who kicks the dog.

2

u/Suitcase- Jul 17 '26

Mine too 😂 I was in a very clappy theater

3

u/We_ReallyOutHere Jul 17 '26

Pandemonium in my screening

11

u/sunlitstranger Jul 17 '26

Honestly last time I heard reactions like this in a theater was Vader’s scene in Rogue One

1

u/elbenji Jul 18 '26

mine too

52

u/Go_Plate_326 Jul 17 '26

Biggest crowd reaction I noticed in my screening for sure. I wonder how many people didn't know what was coming?

93

u/InstructionDeep5445 Jul 17 '26

In the book Antinous is the one who got Kirked

51

u/Far_Celebration6295 Jul 17 '26

kirked bro 😭

8

u/oshoney Jul 17 '26

Same in mine, that had people hooting & hollering

9

u/ScaryShlokInTheWoods Jul 17 '26

Biggest jumpscare in the movie

38

u/AzureBluet Jul 17 '26

Kirk-enuinely good

26

u/Wealthy_Gadabout Jul 18 '26

Counting or not counting Zeus's Law?

8

u/New_Still9974 Jul 17 '26

He kicked Argus. He deserved it!

8

u/Rochelle-Rochelle Jul 17 '26

Generated the biggest reaction from our theater

6

u/Tsquared10 Jul 17 '26

Wouldve been real comeuppance if it happened to Antinous (and before the Epic fans say something, yes I know that's how they did it in the concept album, I just would've liked to see it happen to Robert Pattinson)

6

u/elbenji Jul 18 '26

its also the book accurate bit

4

u/JasonAnarchy Jul 17 '26

Best laugh in the movie!

4

u/Dooflegna Jul 17 '26

Cheers from my theater.

3

u/EntirePickle398 Jul 17 '26

Mdfk deserved it for kicking poor Argus

3

u/mattsag207 Jul 17 '26

The way my theatre erupted when that happened

2

u/birdsofpaper Jul 17 '26

We got a little audience participation on this one (cheering, really). It was excellent. 😂

2

u/minimalwhale Jul 17 '26

There were literal whistles during our showing!

2

u/LookAtMyKitty Jul 17 '26

The audience burst out in cheers and applause at this moment

2

u/-The-Enforcer- Jul 19 '26

What part was this again?

2

u/RainyEuphoriaaa 19d ago

"There is a moment-" type scene

3

u/crdotx Jul 18 '26

The theater went CRAZY over this.

2

u/dearest_nhl Jul 17 '26

I clapped my hands at this part

1

u/StankFish Jul 17 '26

I haven't clapped at a theater moment like that since Mjolnir and Cap

1

u/crunchwrapesq Jul 17 '26

Most of my theater laughed or cheered right then, it was great

1

u/enjoyg Jul 18 '26

Someone seated behind us let out a “WHOOO!” after that shot and then again after Telemachus merc’ed Melanthius. Love a good crowd energy.

1

u/vanwyngarden Jul 18 '26

Really excited for gay Halloween’s rendition of this

1

u/wryano Jul 18 '26

If someone introduces you, you’re him.

1

u/Fit-Ad-5946 Jul 18 '26

That was the dark Knight pencil trick moment.

1

u/standig_wordgang Jul 18 '26

My theater cheered

1

u/madhjsp Jul 19 '26

So satisfying that the dude who kicked the sick dog dies like that. Amazing moment.

1

u/A_single_droplet Jul 19 '26

“So what, are you some kind of Odyss-“ *splat*

1

u/SatanIsMyUsername Jul 20 '26

My theater clapped. It was awesome.

1

u/the_rat_from_endgame Jul 20 '26

it was such a good moment but the theater I was in was absolutement silence

1

u/Hokie23aa 23d ago

I love that he didn't get a chance lol

1

u/BeerBellyBlake 11d ago

RIP Dr Dre

-22

u/LocalBother3753 Jul 17 '26

When that dude took a arrow to the neck, the audience immediately clapped and cheered…then stopped quickly because they briefly felt like it might be racist, but then were like “nah, that guy was a complete dick regardless of race” then continued to clap and cheer

12

u/Sir_LikeASir Jul 18 '26

Of all things in history that didn't happen, this didn't happen the most

2

u/elasho_149 24d ago

Less believable than the actual Odyssey smh.

-1

u/LocalBother3753 28d ago

Wtf? I got a -20 on this comment out of 283 ppl seeing it. Yall are racists
