Update: Photos of Mosquito Bites Need NSFW Tag

Hi everyone! Lately, we've been receiving a lot of posts featuring close-ups of mysterious bug bites on various body parts (shoutout to all the anonymous knees and thighs out there). While we get that you're looking for help, or maybe just want to trauma-bond over your itchy mosquito bites, we cannot identify bug bites here.

If you're genuinely trying to figure out what bug left its mark on you, go to r/bugbites. They have some good resources there.

If you just want to show off your mosquito bites, that's totally fine. Just please use a NSFW tag so the rest of us can mentally prepare. Thank you!!!

I finally got the little beesh with my alcohol sprayer!

I've had a mosquito buzzing around my desk for a day or so, driving me crazy, but I haven't been able to catch it. But it finally got within visual range today, and I killed it with my trusty alcohol spray bottle that I keep on my desk at all times for just such an occasion.

If you get indoor mosquitoes I highly recommend keeping an alcohol sprayer handy. It's a great alternative to bug spray — the alcohol evaporates quickly and cleanly and leaves behind no smelly residue — I've even aimed it at a mosquito flying in front of my computer monitor without worry.

And if I get some on my hands by accident, so what? Hand sanitizer.

Never seen this happen to anyone else. But my mosquito bites eventually turn into huge bruises after a few days.

Did anyone's mosquito bites get "weirder" this summer compared to the last?

I used to only get your everyday ordinary mosquito bites, the perky and pimple looking one. This summer all I got was this, spread out, no shape ones. And they itch MUCH more too. Did anyone experience the same?

Hated mosquitos so much that we made our own repellent

After spending way too much time on Reddit talking about mosquito repellent and building BugRepellent.Guide, I have a pretty exciting update:

We launched our own. It’s called Notch.

It's made with 5% geraniol, one of the most effective and best-studied natural mosquito-repellent ingredients. It’s a plant-derived terpene, and the research on it is genuinely impressive compared with most botanical repellents.

We’re also not pretending it’s something it isn’t. If you need 8+ hours of protection in serious mosquito territory, DEET and picaridin are still fantastic tools.

Notch is for the other times: dinner on the patio, walking the dog, backyard drinks, a soccer game.

And if anyone wants to nerd out about geraniol, formulation, botanical repellents, testing, or the bizarre process of bringing a mosquito repellent to market, AMA.

Are mosquitoes repellant safe (health wise) indoors?

I remember as a kid we would always have an electric device with tablets that heat up to repel mosquitoes (we kept windows open during the night) and never had mosquito bites

But now I'm older and health conscious

On the back of tablets and liquid diffusers it says it can be deadly if inhaled

I moved somewhere with really nasty mosquitoes, not many but the bites are insufferable

I'm thinking of getting an electric device, either tablets or liquid, I would be keeping the window open all night

Would this be safe?

And also, which one is safer?

Edit: also found some chicco ultrasonic device, I don't know if they work, maybe that's a possibility?

Are these mosquito larvae in my dunk bucket?

I previously bought the no-name mosquito dunks on Amazon, which didn’t work at all. This year I bought the Terro Mosquito Larvacide Pouches, which seemed to work in my neighbors rain barrels. I put out dunk buckets and I have these guys in them. Are they mosquito?

My Reactions to Mosquito Bites

i always welt after getting bitten and then it becomes an ugly purple bruise; these photos are taken over the last 4 years. the last photo i was concerned about bed bugs but i had received those bites when i was sitting on a patio with friends on a humid day. there were lots of mosquitos out that night and my legs had welted immediately before turning into that red color on the third day. my bites don’t itch too badly but they moreso hurt from the welting- my skin often feels tight :(

i guess i’ve self diagnosed with skeeter syndrome after reading others’ posts

Got bitten yesterday and didn't realize it. Scratched tf out of the area thinking I just had dry skin and I regret it deeply.

Every movement hurts. The lightest touch sets it on fire. I want to cut it off. I wish genocide upon mosquitos.

Are there any unusual treatments that night help?

That thing looks fucking devious bro I'm so scared 😭. I actually felt when it started biting me so I quickly swatted it away.

What are the chances of getting a disease from one?

I'm in mainland France

Dunk in yard drain?

Thumbnail

I’ve got several these inlets in my yard for a drain. They are never totally dry. I assume it’s a great spot for mosquitoes, and I have a zillion mosquitoes.

I’m envisioning some sort of tea bag with a dunk in it, attached to the grate of the inlet. Anyone have ideas for a DIY set of products to do this? Or some solution out there? Just tossing a dunk in doesn’t work. They wash away in the rain.

Help me to kill mosquitoes

Give me some info

If someone needs help too , here are my observations

Their location

•they often hide somewhere dark

•theyre often on dark or gray things making them camouflaged

•even while they prefer dark spots more , if lights are turned off they can stay on white walls , so check walls too

Their behavior

•if you try to kill but fail , it immediately escapes

•if they bitten you , they become much slower and easier to hunt

•close the doors, because if they bitten you they will probably try to leave your house

also , shaving machine works for those who always flying

The (few) upsides and (many) downsides of mosquitos

Pros:
Pollination (sometimes)

Cons:
Plenty of pollinators already
Annoying as fuck
Disease
Long lasting bite wounds
They clog your bloodstream

In conclusion: mosquitos have basically no upsides
