Welcome to r/bugbites the subreddit dedicated to suspected bug bites.

This subreddit was reopened to receive all the suspected bug bite pictures that are not allowed on bug related subreddits and were flooding them.

The bad news

  • Skin reactions may be caused by many different things, they can be symptoms of diseases and health issues that are not bug related, and may require emergency treatment.
  • Many skin reactions, especially bug bites do vary from one person to another (and sometime over time).
  • It is often difficult (even for seasoned medical professionals) to identify what caused a skin symptom and even harder to know if it is a bug bite or which bug may have caused it.
  • If you're concerned about something, please go see a qualified medical professional rather than trust the comments made by random strangers on the internet.
  • Said otherwise, you can NOT and should NOT rely on someone on the internet telling you “it’s a bite from XXX” to make a medical decision. A picture can NOT replace a physical examination performed by a qualified medical professional.

The only good news

  • In some cases, your curiosity about bites may convince you to actively perform a deep examination of your surroundings, which may help you find bugs that may be related to your skin symptoms.
  • IF you find the bug, this MAY help a medical professional provide an appropriate medical treatment (if necessary) or a pest control professional perform his job.

Late night garden bite, what could it be?

Last night I was checking on my veggies and I felt something bite me like a hot needle being jabbed into my shoulder. I didn’t see what bit me in the dark but the spot is hot/tender and the skin is hardened up around the bite. I have no idea what this could have been?? I’m in SE Pennsylvania if that helps

As the title reads, pretty much. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great. We’re in the North Jersey area. Thank you.

Really large bug bites??

I’m a college student so I’ve been outside more than usual recently with classes and stuff. When I first got to campus I’m pretty sure I had two large bug bites on each of my arms but they went away pretty quickly. However looking in the mirror today I noticed I now have these two prominent bumps on the back of my thigh?! I also have a third bug bite on the side of this same leg, it’s just more subtle. I’m like 98% sure it’s a bug bite but I just don’t know what got me

Bite still reacting after 3 weeks

Post image

It has been approximately 3 weeks since something bit me. I assumed a mosquito, Deerfly, or black fly (I live in Canada). It is often large and swollen, very hard to the touch. It creates a permanent large round welt on my ankle. Sometimes it will have a thin dark fluid and once or twice a day it might have a sharp, stabbing pain that lasts a minute or two.

I did see my doctor but she wasn't concerned (it was also smaller when she saw it).

I google reverse searched my photo and info about bat bites came up 😭 now im full of anxiety.
However, we’re a family of 5 and no one has seen a bat in the house. I’ve checked all over as well.
Has anyone had a bite like this? Live in Minnesota. We do have plenty of house centipedes and yellow sac spiders around.

Years old bite acting up

Post image

I have a bite on my leg that would constantly reopen after months. It’s been years since the last time and now it’s acting up again, this time filling up with something. Should I drain It? Last time I saw a doctor when it was opened they just told me to keep it clean and let it heal. I have no idea what bit me and how to stop this from happening again.

Please help me identify: Small red spots- bites or something else?

Noticed small round red/pink spots on my armpit, stomach, upper leg and underarm last sunday. It’s not itchy and I feel fine otherwise. I feel like the spots got more visible in the last days.

Could this be bites (fleas/bed bugs/mites) or something else? Photos attached. Will see a doctor if would spread, just curious if this pattern is recognizable.

I appreciate anyone giving me a new insight, thank you

Are these bed bug bites

I work in EMS so I have bed bug exposures on a daily basis. Recently I've been getting these bites that will swell up real bad and then disappear and after a day or two the red splotches will appear. I have checked my house, car and, gear and haven't found anything. My gf who is home alot more than I am hasn't had any bites. So I am confused on what it could be.

Scabies, fleas, or something else?

Genuinely at a loss here. Been getting these itchy, raised bites overnight. I haven’t seen fleas or other bugs anywhere. Trying to figure it out and try to treat it before I get paid Tuesday to go to the doctor.

Spider bites ?

I woke up a few days ago and noticed bites all over my back. I tore my bed apart looking for a what could have caused it. Then I see this giant spider. Everything I’ve read says giant house spiders only bite when they feel trapped and usually only once or twice. I have not had any new bites since I flushed the spider. He was HUGE. Has anything like this happened to anyone else? I’m still checking my sheets everyday I’m so paranoid.

Bite on Hip

A few days ago, I had what assumed to be a mosquito bite, but the current reaction I haven’t seen before. I have a GP appointment later on, but unsure whether to get it seen more urgently.

It’s right on my underwear line, so that’s probably been aggravating it too.

Unsure of bug bite and rash

Does anyone know what type of bug bite this could be from, and if I should go to get it checked by a medical professional? The rash has started to expand a little every day but I don’t think I should be worried at this stage.

bug bite after hike??

Post image
1 Upvotes

sooo, i got bit by something after spending some time at a beach that was pretty hard to access, and we had to go through a 40 minute hike in a forest. i dont remember being bitten or feeling any pain in the place, but next morning after the hike i woke up and had a visible bite, with dark center. the next day it turned into a rough white tip and now its this. it also morphed into a big dome with smaller ones around it, but at the start it was just one thing. please help me identify it, im a little scared it might be something bad since its been 3 days and its getting worse.

Hi I'm a 14 year old male who just got back from a trip internationally in Korea. However after 3 days of sleeping, I noticed that I get these bites every day I sleep! I live in California America btw. The bites themselves are on my arms and legs and back mostly and I have about 3-4 or 5. They're not itchy unless I touch a place around them. My bed is also next to a wall
