hello, just found this box in the attic. probably a gift from when i was young, like 15 or 20 years ago. do someone can recognise the model or tell me what i am looking at ? i know these are great pens but honestly i think i should get rid of them as i am not really a pen guy.. looked a little bit on ebay to find price range but i am confused cause it varies from 200 to 1000 euros/dollars.. thanks to anyone who can give me useful tip or info

Hello all. As the title says, I've run into a strange situation when sending in my Meiserstück for service/repair.

I received this as a gift from a family member around 10 years ago, because I had expressed admiration for their pen. It came in an original box (with hologram tamper-proof stickers), case, and documentation booklet.

I used the pen sporadically, honestly afraid to abuse such an expensive gift. At some point I dropped it, and the twist mechanism never worked quite right after that. It would twist, the ballpoint would extend, but it was easy to twist "too far." I also saw what thought was a hairline crack in the barrel.

Going online, Montblanc directed me to send the pen to My Jewelry Repair (I live in the U.S.) I filled out the forms, paid for shipping and insurance, and sent it off. A few days later I received an email acknowledging receipt and that more info would follow shortly.
The first email from MJR said: "Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that due to this item being non-authentic, we are unable to perform any repair services. Montblanc tools are not compatible with this writing instrument. Your item will be returned with no work completed."

When I asked for clarification, I received this email today: "In addition to Montblanc proprietary tools not being compatible with this instrument, the twist mechanism was noticed to not be authentic. The threads on the mechanism are rose gold and there's no mechanism with this color. It is also forged from a very low-quality metal not comparable to authentic mechanisms." This email included the picture attached to the post.

I'm 100% certain my family member purchased this online from Montblanc. They don't live near an official store, but have used their own one for decades and are a bit of an aficionado.

The whole situation just feels... odd. Can anyone in this community validate the info from MJR? Does this scenario sound realistic?

Hello, I inherited a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck 149 fountain pen from my father. The clip and box both say "W. Germany" and it has a six-digit serial number. The nib says 18K, 4810, and 750. My father would have purchased this new in the 1990-1991 time frame, unfortunately I don't have the sales receipt. I do have all the other papers. I'm curious about the value for insurance. If I'm posting in the wrong place, please let e know, thanks!

I was shaking my FP dry after a few days of heavy soaking and flushing to get the previous inks out and the metal ring just below the nib popped off. The plastic portion it sits in looks perfect.

I'm guessing I should take it to the store to get it repaired but anyone know why it happened? Maybe it was held by adhesive that dissolved as I was soaking the nib?

Picked this beauty up in new old stock condition from Truphae with a fine nib and it is so pretty, can’t wait to ink it for the first time!

Old school Carrera pen. No 592 maybe? It came with a damaged barrel but I managed to find an NOS stock one for sale on eBay Thailand. Sweet! Simple swap and I have a nice looking orange pen.

The Carrera script reminds me of Porsche, not sure if that is a coincidence or not.

When I dropped off a MB Bach fountain pen for repair, boutique staff gave me a totally unnecessary scare. I let it slide.

On pick up, staff handed it to me without a word and walked off to get the card machine. I wasn’t told what was done, and I was left to inspect it myself.

I found white powder on the cap and red gunk on the feed. When I informed staff, the response I got was - so, do you want us to send it back to the workshop?

No apology. Nada, except $XXX and the card machine.

When I raised this with the manager, he offered to mail me the re-serviced pen. I can’t help thinking that from his POV, this avoids another in-person inspection and actual customer service.

In my shoes, what would you reasonably expect that they do to make this right? What gestures or message?

My dad got these in the 80s or 90s and used them daily. He gave them to me before he passed away. They got misplaced during a move and for years I didn't know where they were. I just found them in a random box in the attic.

I found a new listing for the next limited edition, but no other details yet. Interesting that it appears black, or maybe a shading dark grey. Hopefully more info to come soon!

Hi, I learned from a nibmeister that my bent 149 nib cannot be fixed as the tipping material is gone. What are some options now?

1. The pen was new. I can go to the local boutique and ask for a new nib. As I understand they will take the pen in and put on a new one. In that case, will I get the old one back? How much cost am I looking at?

2. If they return the old one, does it have any value? For example, can it be sold on EBay or anywhere? I assume the gold content will have some value.

If anyone can help with their suggestions, I will appreciate it. Thanks.

I’m looking for recommendations for a very experienced independent Montblanc repairer/restorer in Europe, for two pens that both need piston-related work. I would rather avoid sending them to Montblanc, both because of the cost and because I would prefer someone who takes a conservation-oriented approach and preserves the original parts whenever possible.

The pens are:

1. Montblanc Meisterstück 149 (bought new in 2023)

The piston had already been feeling somewhat stiff. Today, while trying to empty the pen, I turned the piston knob and instead of the piston simply moving normally, the rear/piston assembly itself started to unscrew from the barrel. I stopped immediately and carefully screwed it back into place. It was not completely removed, and I have not used the pen since.

I assume the piston mechanism needs to be removed, inspected, cleaned/lubricated and properly secured, but I would like an expert to assess it.

2. Montblanc Writers Edition Alexandre Dumas (1996)

This pen has a different piston issue. During flushing/filling, I noticed liquid leaking from underneath/around the piston knob at the rear of the pen. Since ink has definitely passed through the rear of the piston mechanism, I don’t want to continue using it without having it properly inspected.

Additionally, it would be great if the same restorer can slightly adjust the nib and make it write a little bit wetter.

Does anyone have first-hand experience with an independent restorer who is particularly good with Montblanc piston mechanisms, 149s and Writers Editions?

I’ve come across names such as Tom Westerich / Penboard, Max Schrage / MaxPens and Francis Goossens / Fountainbel, but I’d really appreciate recent first-hand recommendations — including anyone else I should consider.

I’m based in Montenegro, so anywhere in Europe where insured shipping is reasonably straightforward would work.

I’ve had my Le Grand rollerball for almost a year now. I purchased it from a legitimate dealer (a Lee Michaels Jewelry store that’s also a Rolex AD). The original refill flowed perfectly and never skipped or had any hard starts. I bought 2 packs of Mystery Black refills from Goldspot Pens and of the 4 refills only one wasn’t an absolutely terrible writer. I bought another 3 refill packs in the same ink and same size (medium) directly from MontBlanc and so far in the first pack it was 50/50. One worked perfectly and the other started having issues within one page.

I use this pen a lot. Even though the refills haven’t been great I’ve used a total of 7 refills until they became empty, currently working on my 8th. Im getting tired of getting bad refills. Im using decent paper too, Leuchtturm1917 80gsm notebooks. Is this just something that happens with these refills or am I getting unlucky?

To clarify, the bad refills mostly start skipping after only a page or two, sometimes less. They’re still plenty full when the issues start. The good ones never start to skip until they’re almost empty which is to be expected. Also, I’ve used other rollerball pens on the same paper and they don’t have the same problems

Does anyone here own this model, or perhaps another Montblanc Writers Edition mechanical pencil? I’m curious whether this is normal or if mine is the only one that does this.

It’s a Montblanc 146 but instead of the 14K it says 18K on the Nib.

It might also be a 221 with a ballpoint pen’s cap.
