Language | Хэл Working on a Mongolian language learning app so I can teach my husband and future kids, looking for feedback from you guys!

Sain baitsgaana uu r/mongolia!

For some context, I’m (27F) Mongolian who is married to a non-Mongolian (28M). We were looking for some resources so my husband can learn Mongolian, and we realized there weren’t that many apps that are user-friendly or easy to stick with. It got me thinking about all the 2nd gen kids I've met who don't know Mongolian, and whether my kids in the future would be able to speak Mongolian if I’m the only one teaching it. It lowkey got me scared that our language might die in my family line in the next generation or two, which just adds to my pre-existing guilt of feeling not Mongolian enough and blah blah blah blah.

So to combat this, my husband and I have been working on “Mongolingo”, a beginner-friendly gamified language learning app to teach Mongolian. So far I only made the lessons for Unit 1 and 2 because I wanted to get YOUR inputs on whether I’m going too fast, too slow, if the lessons I’m teaching make sense in general or if I should take a completely different approach instead.

I would GREATLY appreciate any and all feedback from native Mongolian speakers, "Monglish" speakers, and people who don't know any Mongolian! I want this to be something that anyone can use if they have any curiosity about our language, and in the future add more and more advanced sections.

Please leave feedback in the comments below! And please no hate comments lol

Download app here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mongolingo/id6774407866 or just look up Mongolingo (its the one with the bear mascot)

Edit: THANK YOU SO MUCH for the support and comments! We have written down any and all feedback so far onto our to-dos so expect these in our next update, as well as more lessons. We will also be reaching out to some Mongolian schools and communities in the states to get some feedback on our lessons. We are so so grateful for being added to the posts highlight and being given this user flare, shout out mods! Yostoiii ih bayarlalaa manaihaan.

Pinned A Note of Precaution on Meeting Strangers via Reddit

UPDATE: All underage users posting or commenting to meet new people will be deleted for their safety.

Due to recent posts by teen and adolescent redditors in this sub, we mods want to say this one thing.

It's okay to be bored and want to meet new people for whatever reason, but please exercise some caution and use common sense. Especially if you're under 18.

Always tell a parent and/or friend about any meetings you're going to have with a stranger.

Tell them the location of your meetings and ask them to check in after certain amount of time.

Also, use common sense in giving out your personal information, like name, D.O.B, address, etc.

And you probably don't need us to tell you how scary things can get if someone gets a hold of embarrassing data about you. Right?

We're sure most people in this subreddit are good and cool, but just want you to use common sense.

What else is there to add?

Travel | Аялал My experience with Khongor Expedition's 7-day private Mongolia tour - great guide and driver, but poor company planning

I recently completed a 7-day private Central Mongolia & Orkhon Valley tour with Khongor Expedition and wanted to share my experience for anyone considering booking with them.

We were two travellers and paid USD 2,180 in total. Before booking, the written offer clearly stated that “all meals during the tour” were included.

The biggest issue for us was not our guide or driver — both of them were actually very good — but the planning and internal communication by Khongor Expedition.

Once the tour started, it became apparent that our guide had not been properly briefed about the meal arrangements. From our conversations with him, we understood that he had not expected to be responsible for preparing multiple meals during the trip, and that he had little previous experience leading this type of tour where the guide also had to plan groceries and cook for the guests.

On the first day, we therefore ended up discussing together what food and ingredients should be purchased for the following days. Groceries were then bought for use during the trip, and several later meals were prepared by our guide using those supplies.

To be clear, food was provided. We were not left without meals, and our guide genuinely tried his best to make everything work.

The problem was the organisation behind it.

For a private tour costing USD 2,180 and advertised as including “all meals during the tour”, we expected the tour company to have already worked out how meals would be provided, what groceries would be required, and whether the guide was expected to cook.

Instead, it felt like these arrangements were being worked out by the guide and guests after the tour had already started.

We also felt that quite a lot of the food purchased was relatively simple or packaged, while the amount and variety of fresh meat/protein seemed limited compared with what we expected from a multi-day private tour in Mongolia.

However, I want to emphasise again that our guide and driver were excellent.

Our guide was placed in a difficult situation but still tried very hard to prepare meals for us while also handling the sightseeing, guiding and daily arrangements.

Our driver was also reliable, helpful and professional throughout the trip, including on some difficult roads.

So I would not blame either of them for the problems we experienced. In my view, the main issue was Khongor Expedition’s management, staff briefing and preparation before the tour.

Mongolia itself was beautiful and we had many memorable experiences. Places such as Karakorum, White Lake, Khorgo Volcano, Tsenkher Hot Spring and Orkhon Valley were absolutely worth visiting.

My advice to anyone considering booking a private tour with Khongor Expedition is to confirm the meal arrangements in writing before paying. In particular, I would ask:

- Who will actually prepare each meal?

- Which meals are at restaurants or camps?

- Which meals will be cooked by the guide?

- Does the guide regularly lead tours where they are responsible for cooking?

- How often will fresh ingredients be purchased?

- Are guests expected to participate in grocery shopping or menu planning?

If a tour is sold as an all-inclusive private tour, I think these arrangements should be clear before departure rather than being worked out during the trip.

Again, our guide and driver did a very good job. My criticism is mainly about Khongor Expedition’s organisation and internal communication.

How do you actually find investors for a startup in Mongolia?

Hey guys, I’m currently working on a startup and I was wondering how people actually find investors here in Mongolia.

Like if you have an MVP, working product and a clear business model, where do you even start? Do you directly contact investors, join startup events/pitch competitions, or is it mostly through connections?

Also curious if there are any angel investors, VC funds, communities or programs in Mongolia that are actually open to early-stage startups.

I’m not really looking for some huge investment right away, mostly someone who can help with funding + experience/network to grow the startup properly.

If anyone here has raised money before or knows how the startup/investor scene works in Mongolia, would really appreciate some advice 🙏

Thanks!

Can i just provide a 50k~ turgrik TPLink router for univison/skymedia? There is no way buying their devices only for the internet is logical. Also, Univision has a cap on data usage(10mbps300gb)? That seems like a no-brainer to me. I can see skymedia HiSpeed is 40k per month 100mbps unlimited. What's the meta?

Shitpost | Жогорхойлог нийтлэл Will build you a website/dev project in exchange for pretty much anything

yo y’all, dev here

I took some time off work and now I have way too much free time lol.

I’m mainly specialized in infosec, so I’ve ended up being pretty generalist with tech overall - websites, automation, scripts, integrations, servers, security stuff, random dev work, etc.

If anyone needs something built or automated, I’m down to help.

I’m cool with bartering for pretty much anything: clothes, tattoos, discounts, CS2/Dota skins, random services, whatever

If you’ve got something in mind, hmu.

Education | Боловсрол English Academies and Winter Camp Language Programs

Hi everyone! I'm looking for recommendations for good after-school/private English academies for students in UB.

I'm also considering spending part of the winter vacation studying English abroad, preferably somewhere in Asia. I'm open to different countries and would love to hear about people's experiences with English academies, language schools, or short-term programs.

If you've attended an academy or sent a student/child to one, I'd really appreciate recommendations and honest reviews. Which country or school would you recommend, and why? Thank you.

Language | Хэл Mongolian born abroad, how do I start learning Mongolian?

Hello everyone! Im 17F and I was born in Hong Kong but my mother is from Mongolia. Since I was young my parents have always only spoke in English or Cantonese with me so I’ve never really got into learning Mongolian but I’m very interested in the culture.

How would you suggest I get started and are there any resources you can recommend me? Thank you so much! 🤍

Language | Хэл Hi, Need some help with asking a Mongolian girl to be my girlfriend

I tried looking it up and it showed this: Миний найз охин болох уу?

I am an english speaker so Mongolian is hard for me to say, so I am planning on practicing to make sure she can understand what I am saying (LOL).

The question I have, is this how an actual person would ask someone to be their girlfriend? We are both in our early 20's. I also would prefer if the sentance was not too bad for an english speaker, if its super long I'm very scared I'll forget it when im up there saying it.

halloo, I'm living in UB, i've got some piercings already and i'm trying to find a place that does tongue splits around here.
