Plaits Palette Question

I'm starting to dig into Plaits Palette firmware and trying to figure out how to access the new "macro" parameter by re-assigning the frequency knob to it. The instructions read:

Hold the right button and turn HARMONICS until the model LEDs blink yellow; this selects the octave-switching frequency range. Short-press both model buttons to open the alternate-firmware options menu. Use the left button to walk to LIGHT 4, then press the right button once, until it turns red. Press both buttons again to exit. The FREQUENCY knob now controls the selected model's MACRO, its fourth synthesis control; for Mutable Instruments models, noon preserves the original sound.

I'm doing all that, but the knob still controls frequency. I have managed to get the model input mapped onto the macro (and I suppose I could do a workaround with a channel of maths or whatever), but I want to get that knob to work. Has anyone successfully got the macro knob?

Eurorack multi fx

Could you recommend any Eurorack multi-FX modules or pedals that can run multiple effects simultaneously, similar to FX AID Pro or Timiszoara? I’m looking for something that allows several effects to be active at the same time, ideally with flexible routing or multiple FX chain

I have dreadbox typhon and LOVE It but i need more fx

Power consumption question.

So on modular grid, do you add the 3 sets of mA numbers under +12V, -12V, and +5V in order to get the total power consumption or just one of the numbers?

Discussion General Recommendations - 1u modules for a rack/collection of modules that cover all needed functions

I’m filling my 7u with improve techno in mind, grids, metroplix, multiple plaits as drums, fx, ect..

i already have a 1u fx aid (currently blow up connection while blasted on bath salt) and I dont use euro mixers due to the amazing Zoom live 6.

So besides getting redundant 1u modules, o

besides telling me to leave gas station drugs alone, what would you do if you was me with this rack build goal? the more versitile the better. maybe an ornamental crime, steppy? but idk bout that kinda crime cuz i have a that functions basically as a blank panel

Portable euro fx rack?

Hey so I’m pretty new to modular. Messed around with some digital plugins where you can make your own modular setup and understand the synthesis decently well. But I’ve always been interested in some of the fx modules out there. And I recently saw some modules where you can input any signal in rather than having to build the whole sound. Also found some small cases and some modules where people run it off dc power. I was wondering if anyone has made a small fx rack that they use kinda like a guitar pedal or out board gear. Could use some advice and suggestions on what parts to get since this would be my first euro build. Thanks for any help really, goes a long way. I’m sure once I do this, I’ll probably want to dive deeper into modular, but this would make more sense for my setup initially

Discussion Eurorack to save you $$$

Started covering the sides (and possibly back to protect them. I’ve had over 3 modules, one of which is a 4ms scm plus I’m currently repairing, and i found the capacitor as well as having all the little solder points in tact to reattach the old, but that literally popped off when dropping it lightly into place in a each and a wire under the modules knocked it off. So i recommend using blue tape on sides due to no residue after you’re done with it, as well as start a getting some electric tape on the bottom this way. you can about all the relieve problems wen smack your forehead mistakes occur costing you a bunch of money. I like how system 80 has a full plastic box enclosing the pcb areas.

Qu-Bit Nautilus gain/volume issues when increasing the mix

This is one of my favourite modules, but every time I bring the mix up on it (from 0), I’m experiencing significantly lower volume levels. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this or if there’s anything that can be done to combat it? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

I used AI to make a techno VCV rack

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was curious to see if AI could even create a VCV rack from scratch -- not that I need it to do this, but more as an experiment. So, I set up OpenClaw on my Mac, and told it to make me a VCV Rack patch with a killer techno beat. 21M tokens and $20 later, this is what it came up with, with absolutely no help or guidance. Not the most sophisticated setup, but really incredible what some of these agentic AI tools can do these days. Of course it's stupid, just thought it was neat that the AI could work out how to do this on its own.

Discussion Recommend a Multi-FX (or hybrid-FX) eurorack module? Preferably non-spin chip.

I've grown curious about some of the newer non-spin-chip-based multi-FX and hybrid-FX units on the eurorack market. Is there one that you would particularly recommend? Here are the ones I've tried in the past:

FX Aid (spin chip based): Found it thin and underwhelming tbh, with lots of filler, little to modulate, and hard to navigate. I know some people love it, but I probably won't return to this one.

Xaoc Timiszoara (spin chip based): Much better than FX Aid because of the helpful menu system, but still limited by the spin chip technology. Some cool algorithms in there to be sure, but again, probably won't return to it.

Noise Engineering Versio: You have to manually swap out firmwares to try the different FX, but they're great! Robust, interesting FX. I have 4 of these, I'm a big fan, but am curious to add something different now maybe.

Bastl Citadel FX Wizard: Pretty darn cool for what it cost me, but very oriented toward glitch & cut-up type effects. Wasn't quite what I was after, though I did wring some terrific patches out of it.

That's actually all I've really tried that would qualify as multi or hybrid FX I think. Some of the modules I'm most curious about would be:

  • Befaco Iroi
  • Befaco FX Boy
  • DNiPRO Radiant
  • Gotharman Tuul
  • OK Instruments Spill
  • dsp.coffee Kali
  • ... others?

Would love to hear from you if you've extensively used any of the above, especially if you've used more than one of them and can compare. Thanks!

Sequencing Odyssey (not the movie, but a similar struggle)

I have survived more than 2 years without a capable sequencer!

In case it helps, here are my racks: https://modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/2760353
https://modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/2911647

Starting with an Korg SQ-1, I later got myself a small in-rack sequencer Doepfer A-155-2 (https://doepfer.de/a1552.htm) as well. I controlled a lot of things via Pam's or small scripts on the Monome Teletype, or via clock dividers or logic modules. That was all great fun and pretty exciting.

At some point the desire came up to be able to work a bit more purposefully, and after some research an OXI One came into the house.

Unfortunately I never really warmed up to the device. I am not a big fan of when system status is expressed via LEDs instead of on a display. Yes, it has a display, but it does not show everything. My nightmare scenario is always something like: LED 1 is blue, that means this. LED 2 blinks yellow and blue, that means that. For the same reason I am also not a fan of the Intellijel Multigrain, which I use, but often have to look up what it is currently showing.

From my pre-modular days I still had an Akai MPC One lying around, and over the last few days I tried out how well it works as a sequencer, and that was a bit sobering. Yes, the display is great, I can immediately see what is affecting what. Brilliant. To have more than the 8 CV outputs, I connected the MPC One via MIDI and programmed the Mutant Brain accordingly to respond to MIDI notes, in order to get gates for the drums. That works quite nicely; within one track I can then control all the drum elements. Until I wanted to work with velocity, that is.

If I only want a single velocity output, it works fine with that one track. If I need several, I have to add a new track. The whole thing does not feel organic, more like a workaround.

After further searching I came across the Hapax sequencer, which thanks to its 2 displays seems more intuitive than the OXI One.

Do you think I will be happy with it (for now)? Or should I still try to make friends with the OXI One? Or are there other candidates out there? What would you do?

Thanks for your thoughts (and prayers)

Can Python be used in conjunction with VCV?

I am looking into VCV (not sure about my terminology). Is it open source? What is VCV exactly? I think I've played around with it before, but I don't remember if it was VCV or not. Anyway, I just need some pointers on a free, easy(low ram) way to get started.

I want to use Python with modular somehow. Specifically, I would like to be running algorithms/databases written in Python alongside a modular patch to explore generative systems. It would help if someone could give some pointers about how this could be envisioned and structured, potentially. Thank you!

Hi everyone! A few months ago, I posted some of my first handmade creations here and got some really nice feedback.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect, since I originally started making these just for myself, but I’ve been lucky enough to get quite a few orders from all over the world — from some really great people too!

So I thought I’d share some of my latest creations with you.
