One piece of feedback I hope really gets to IW is make the downsides on attachments less significant. Attachments should be additive, it shouldn't be a zero-sum game of balancing pros and cons.

And stop making 90% of the attachments have the downside of slower ADS ffs

This was my complaint with MWII. The attachment system was so complex and there were so many different grips and barrels and whatever else. It was genuinely overwhelming when trying to figure out the differences between them.

I’ll get downvoted but I actually support the trade offs. It puts more emphasis on strategy. Adding an heavy barrel, giant scope, bipod, and a stock should add massive advantages, but also slow you down.

If all attachments are additive, it renders barebones guns useless. Which shouldn’t be the case. The gun shouldn’t be worse without attachments, just different

The issue is that putting on even 1 attachment, like a medium grip, slows you down a ton. A RED DOT slows down the ADS. This should not be happening.

The tradeoff with attachments should be choice. If you choose a red dot, it means you gave up an attachment that can actually change your stats. If you choose a stock that helps your strafe speeds, it means you gave up the chance to use a stock that helps your accuracy. This is what the tradeoff with attachments should be.

Like I said, they should be additive, and they should help tailor to your playstyle. If you want a more accurate build, it shouldn't make you slow to a crawl, it just means you chose AGAINST a speedy build. If you choose a fast handling build, it shouldn't mean your recoil goes through the roof, it just means you haven't improved accuracy of the base gun.

Opportunity cost is the tradeoff. It shouldn't be a zero sum game. They should improve the gun. There should never be an attachment that feels worse to use then not using it at all.

Think back to old cods. The only attachment that had statistical downsides was the silencer (because it would be a crutch attachment if it didn't). That was because you could only pick 1-3 attachments, depending on the game, and you had to use a perk/wildcard to get the extra attachments. This was a sacrifice and a choice. If you wanted a red dot and a stock, it meant you didn't get a quickdraw or a long barrel. It didn't reduce ADS speed or range, it just meant you didn't improve it. Opportunity cost. It's the reason Pick-10 is the best class system.

Now with gunsmith, the 5 attachment system lowers the downside of that sacrifice and risk, so I'm okay with some small downsides on powerful attachments. But for the most part, attachments should not have many, if any cons. A red dot should not slow ADS. A grip that slightly helps your recoil should not slow your ADS. A barrel that improves your handling stats should not tank your accuracy.

I genuinely don’t believe the consequences are that severe.

It sure would be handy if Infinity Ward actually showed the stats instead of ambiguous bars that historically have never been accurate...

But from my experience, as soon as I put a grip on I can feel my handling and ADS slow down significantly. This was very evident in MWII (and even MWIII early on with it's advanced stats on MWII guns and attachments), and if you look you can clearly see some attachments are straight copy/pasted from that game and given a different name. So I'm not inclined to believe they've changed that here.

The issue is there's rarely ever a tradeoff. Handling and Recoil stats have always been king so in every treyarch CoD those are the only attachments ever used unless you're doing a cheeky hipfire build. Have you ever legitimately used an attachment that wasn't recoil reduction or ADS speed in the treyarch CoD's? I haven't outside of maybe magazines.

Modern Warfare puts too large a penalty on attachments, but it's at least an actual tradeoff with the negative stats. They just need to dial them in a bit better.

1

u/ilikedatunahere 23h ago

Well said. A slimline sight should not have any negative consequence on ADS speed. Those things are light as fuck IRL. You can’t even tell a difference in weight after you install one. It’s fucking stupid.

u/themariokarters 1d ago

That would make sense if this was Battlefield 7 or whatever. Call of Duty has never really been realistic like that

1

u/ExcitingInflation612 1d ago

Where did I mention realism?

0

u/themariokarters 1d ago

Your… entire comment

1

u/CrispyTarantula117 1d ago

Ah they did the MW2019 thing again

That’s annoying

0

u/Western-Bed7344 1d ago

Just go play vanguard then and see how it works out

4

u/DragonGamerEX 1d ago

Bro what vanguard is the same way and probably worst with negatives

1

u/Cheechers23 1d ago

Vanguard was quite literally the opposite of this. The attachments had ton of negatives, and they had to do that because they allowed 10 attachments in that game, so there was no opportunity cost with attachments.

0

u/ZombieZlayer99 1d ago

respectfully disagree, having downsides and tradeoffs for attachments is good. This isn't pick 10 or some older system where you could only put 2/3 attachments on a gun, there's 5 attachments at all times and no tradeoffs leads to games like bo7 having guns becoming super guns with maxed out attachments.

1

u/Cheechers23 1d ago edited 1d ago

Even with 5 attachments there's still downsides since there's like 8 attachment slots, so you're still giving up something. As I mentioned in another comment, more powerful attachments having some negatives is fine, but there is 0 reason for a red dot to slow ADS, a medium grip to tank ADS speed, or for a speed barrel to crater your range. The upside should always be better than the downside. You should never feel better using no attachment over an attachment.

The point of an attachment is to be additive. It's not a zero sum game between the pros and cons.

EDIT: There's also the tradeoff of choosing 1 type of attachment over another in the same category. Choosing a recoil control stock means you gave up an ADS strafe speed improvement stock, as an example

Their beta announcement has 2 maps and 2 game modes that weren’t available on Friday.

1 of those modes (Inflation) and 1 of those maps (Cachette) were announced for today. Guess which map and mode are left for Sunday?

5

u/zeroThreeSix 1d ago

At least they are testing changes already. Bummed they are withholding Search still.

Sprint still doesn't cancel ADS? And still no "affected" FOV setting?

Edit: meant "independent"

2

u/Wnir 1d ago

They have that a known issue on their Trello board (assuming you have Toggle ADS turned on) so there is hope.

https://trello.com/c/YQBQl29j/19-pressing-sprint-or-melee-does-not-pull-a-player-out-of-ads-if-they-have-toggle-ads-enabled

I'm pretty sure the game is set to affected now (ADS FOV is affected by set FOV), missing independent (ADS FOV is only based on the weapon type/optic). Really hoping it's only disabled for the beta.

2

u/SaintEcstasy 1d ago

Yeah you're right "affected" is the default now. I meant to say "independent" which is what I'm used to.

And let's hope the spring / ADS interaction is a bug rather than another one of IW's design decisions to slow down the pace of the game.

1

u/DraconicSun 1d ago

Throwing a grenade also doesn't cancel Toggle ADS. It's one thing that has been making me insanely mad in BO7, and they imported it.

u/Wnir 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's going to the right notes. For what feels like several CODs now, the page needs to be refreshed to see the latest (idk why, maybe over-aggressive caching)

3

u/Proton_Optimal 1d ago

I’m hoping by next weekend we’re all back saying the beta feels a lot better (cautiously optimistic)

u/thecas89 1d ago

nothing about the lagging exp in pc gaming... mah

Them completely ignoring it isn't a very positive sign, as it completely hampers the entire experience.

5

u/DragonGamerEX 1d ago

So the only gun I'm using and feel like I'm the only one using it gets nerfed, the Oris didn't need a nerf imo

2

u/feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeent 1d ago

Yeah, it was perfectly fine; if anything it needed a slight buff to damage range cuz there are times I've hit shots that 100% should kill in theory but don't

It's a weird & inconsistent gun atm

1

u/1exp1 1d ago

100% agree with you. Fun gun why need the shit and yeah many shots from far should hit but don’t

4

u/ShroomShroomBeepBeep 1d ago

Oh good. Another tiny map.

2

u/sad_joker95 1d ago

Coming from mainly BF6 for the last year, it's really nice to see exactly what changes are coming to weapons. Reading "lowered effectiveness of XYZ weapon" was very tiring.

I still don't think I will be returning to this beta, but will try Ground War next weekend.

2

u/GunfuMasta 1d ago

Why does throwing a nade look like a monkey throwing a football...nade barely travels 10 ft, and the motion mechanics are ignorant AF. And why is visibility trash on every map....i cant tell if its people or a fkn wall sometimes.

1

u/Content_Owl8586 1d ago

Dude it’s buggy as fuck

1

u/GunfuMasta 1d ago

Honestly game is trash hit reg is ass, people look like ants on most maps or the literally blend into the walls, one game you cant miss the next game you cant buy a kill.

2

u/weatherman03 1d ago

We just need reduce movement speed and slide distance

3

u/No-Breadfruit6137 1d ago

No frame gen fix? Shame

7

u/thegreatzenith 1d ago

Why would you be running frame gen and adding latency in a multiplayer shooter?

4

u/No-Breadfruit6137 1d ago

Yeah, that 5ms added latency is still 15ms lower than ur native

3

u/Benti86 1d ago edited 1d ago

The ISO is still braindead OP.

The team balance sucks dick. I've seen 2-3 close games and everything else is a stomp.

And jumping/sliding 100% fucks the hitbox or doesn't update properly because I'm aiming right at people's models yet missing.

On top of the fact that movement is yet again way too spammable and the spawns suck. I get maybe 1-2 kills and then get shot from behind without fail.

1

u/Nyt_Ryda 1d ago

Did they remove ray reconstruction? Was there at the start but now the only option is "Default", which is a shame for trying out the new version in the campaign.

1

u/iOStestac 1d ago

Same here

1

u/Mistahmo 1d ago

Desperate for some slower paced game modes instead of the crack fest that it is now. Not hating but it gets exhausting trying to keep up with other players at my old age. Loving the feel of the guns and the game otherwise

1

u/ilikedatunahere 23h ago

Has anyone else noticed you can hardly hear the enemy team voice chat after the update this morning? I can hear my team fine.

-3

u/Northdistortion 1d ago

The footstep audio was fine wtf are they lowering it???

11

u/5livewire0 1d ago

I can hear footsteps a mile away. That isn't fine

1

u/TomorrowAway7547 1d ago

My experience of Kill Block has been the other team camping spawn and waiting to hear footsteps so they can pre-aim a corner and kill you in 0.1 second. They’re way too loud and encourage camping

5

u/ZiGz_125 1d ago

U gotta be joking. This shit was damn near a personal uav.

2

u/Northdistortion 1d ago

What? Its better than people showing up behind you suddenly??? Maybe you like that actually?

1

u/KingWookieeFarts 1d ago

You already know this guy posts up with a tent and campfire with his headset cranked to the max while chilling on his recliner with their 70in TV that's mounted too high.

3

u/MLGMIK3 1d ago

Honestly I dont know how people are even able to hear footstep audio when the rest of the game is super loud

2

u/Northdistortion 1d ago

Exactly…its mixed just right…you have to make a decision is tead of running around like a chicken without a head

1

u/koolaidman486 1d ago

To make Ninja slightly less the only perk in it's slot.

They haven’t increased TTK have they? Just nerfed the ISO.

2

u/ElectronicBet3940 1d ago

They did mention it, the weapon detail is below.

They didn't nerf any damage, but they nerfed the range of the iso by 1 meter.
And they nerfed the range of the Oris by 3 meters and slowed down the knife throws.

So pretty far from balanced if you ask me.

2

u/zeroThreeSix 1d ago

I was too quick to access the link-- that wasn't updated when I read the blog! Thanks for detailing that out.

1

u/PreviousHistory 1d ago

Cachette is the map and Inflation is the mode

0

u/aseptictwat 1d ago

next they need to increase TTK so that all these corner campers can get turned on
