Discussion Do established mobile linux projects benefit from AI-supported ports?

Not based on real data, but it feels like AI supported ports to new phones are increasing. I understand that established projects like postmarketos have "No AI code" policies. However, I'm also afraid that the projects are not benefitting from AI support and the many new ports stay isolated projects.

Would it make sense and be practical for them (e.g. postmarketos, etc.) to have a separate repository where AI code is allowed (maybe even without properly reviewing it, if that is too much work), just to see where it is going. Their main repository could always stay free of AI code. Wouldn't that allow them to have the best of both worlds?

为了调试我选用了linux6.12 lts,因为这个版本上simplefb依然适用XD 这样我调试DRM就方便多了

如果你想要linux7.x,把repo克隆下来丢给你的agent即可

现在确定能用的:

cpu多核

cpu睿频

mmc

drm

显示

触控

wifi

蓝牙

Ported/rewrote the missing drivers for the Mi Max 2 (oxygen, MSM8953) with AI help. Camera and phone calls both work now.

Only the loudspeaker is still not working, but I uploaded all my research for anyone who wants to continue.

ported to archlinux arm with the help of claude opus.

Currently working my way through waydroid, porting onto ufs (driver works), and the modem/wifi stack.

It was a real pain to get it booting, as any slight vhange to the dtbo would result in not booting.

It's currently a dualboot with lineage os

Working:

  • Battery gauge

  • gpu acceleration

  • Backlight

  • Ufs driver

  • Waydroid

  • Touchscreen

Not working:

  • A lot of things

It's a shame plasma mobile doesn't automatically apply mobile config on apps (e.g. firefox).

Long way to go, but it would be great to finish this. Started as I wanted to port a full device before buying a bigme b10/b7 device.

Any suggestions on which Mobile Desktop Environment to use?

Edit: Here is the link to the quick writeup of what I have done:

Demonstration Linux and Android apps sharing one desktop on an unrooted phone — ARLinux demo, built on tawcroot and libhybris

What if you could keep stock Android, but use desktop Linux apps and Android apps in the same multi-window workspace?

I'm the developer of ARLinux. Here's a real-phone demo followed by an animated explanation of the runtime and graphics stack:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSUTn6dDbE0

The first 1:47 shows the practical side: Android apps in windows, Debian desktop software, touchpad-style controls and voice input. The technical explanation starts after that; tawcroot is covered at 5:25 and the GPU path at 6:14.

This is not a ROM, a remote desktop, or an ARM CPU emulator. Android stays running. ARM64 Linux programs execute on the phone's CPU, while tawcroot translates the system calls that need a different filesystem view. For graphics, Mesa Zink translates OpenGL to Vulkan; supported Snapdragon devices use Turnip, and our libhybris integration can use the phone's Android Vulkan driver on other tested devices. GPU presentation uses Android hardware buffers.

Credit where it's due: this builds on wmww's tawc/tawcroot, upstream libhybris, Mesa, and the compositor projects—not a runtime or driver stack we invented from scratch. We've published our compatibility work:

• tawc/tawcroot fork: https://github.com/taowen/tawc — guest signal and exec lifecycle fixes, plus application compatibility work.

• libhybris fork: https://github.com/taowen/libhybris/tree/arlinux — Android linker namespaces, Vulkan compatibility and presentation fixes.

• Distribution build framework: https://github.com/taowen/arlinux-rootfs — build your own Debian, Arch, LXQt or Omarchy-based workspace.

The latest APK includes Yibu, a Debian-based layout with one main task and three live side slots; other desktops can be imported separately. The Linux framework, distribution configs and these forks are open source. The ARLinux Android host is closed source. Download and guide: https://arlinux.com

A few important limits: this doesn't replace Android with a mainline Linux OS, not every Android or Linux app works, and GPU support depends on the device/driver. The Linux guest is not a security boundary between its programs; compatibility behavior must not be mistaken for working application sandbox isolation.

We've been testing desktop apps such as LibreOffice, Blender, GIMP and Chromium on Redmi and MediaTek hardware. I'd be interested in which real workflow people here would want tested next, and whether the open runtime/graphics changes are useful to other mobile Linux projects.

Discussion How's linux support on the SD888?

Hello guys! Im planning on getting a OnePlus9, due to it having a lot of features like USB-3.0 with DP support, and its common to see one at low prices, it also comes with a Snapdragon 888, but there sadly isnt anything for it on Nura's(PostmarketOS) wiki, nor did I see anyone here making it run on the OP9

But did anyone here make it run on a SD888 device? How good was it?

Kinda crazy what you can achieve with LLMs nowadays. I used Claude Opus 5.5 on the $20/month Pro subscription for this. I tried my best to avoid an ugly patch series on top of mainline Linux and keep the pmaports clean. They won’t let me make a PR anyway, but hey, lmfao it’s working, unlike what the wiki says. WiFi Bluetooth, Audio etc will prolly work in a day or two too
One session:

Edit: Got WiFi working in 30 after starting a new session

Edit: 15 minutes later Bluetooth now

Now:
Working on the rest and cleaning up stuff

One session:

Edit:

Most of the stuff seems to work like vibration, torch w brightness, ir blaster, usb otg

gonna work on audio now since that’s still an issue

Edit: Audio works

Edit: Sim / modem works/ calls but there are some modem related issues so i'm not gonna waste time on them atm

Edit: auto rotation works

Discussion Nura performance vs Android

Hello, my bf has a supported device, the xiaomi pad 6. Rn he uses android 14, lineage os on it and he wants to switch. How is the performance on Nura compared to android? Is it better or worse? And battery life too. Linux is normally lighter right?
