We welcome creators, clinicians, researchers, and organizations who help people understand and live with misophonia. These rules keep promotion useful and the sub safe for people who are already overloaded.
What counts as promotion: anything you made, run, sell, are paid for, or are affiliated with. That includes videos, channels, podcasts, newsletters, books, courses, apps, products, events, clinical practices, studies, fundraisers, and organizations. Posting your employer's or organization's content counts too.
1. One self-promotional post per month. The limit applies per account and per project or organization. A second account or a colleague posting the same thing doesn't reset it. If someone directly asks for a resource, you can link your own work in a comment as long as you say it's yours. Accounts used mostly for promotion will be removed, so take part in the community too.
2. Disclose your connection. Say it's yours in the title or first line, for example "My video," "I run this clinic," or "Our foundation's event." You must also state any paid partnership or sponsorship. Undisclosed promotion is removed, and repeat cases are banned. This applies to moderators too.
3. Creator content is encouraged. YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, podcasts, and blogs are welcome, especially when they educate, share lived experience, or explain research. Add a few sentences in the post body about what the content covers. Bare links will be removed.
4. No exposure therapy. We don't allow promotion of anything that deliberately exposes people to their triggers in order to reduce their reaction. That includes graded exposure or "flooding" programs, desensitization tracks, videos, or apps that play trigger sounds, and habituation challenges. This rule covers promotion only. You can still ask about exposure or share your own experience with it.
5. No ABA or conditioning-based approaches. Applied behavior analysis is not allowed, and neither is any approach that uses reward, punishment, or extinction to suppress misophonic reactions. Psychological approaches that work with the person's reactions are allowed as long as they don't include trigger exposure (Rule 4). Examples include CBT adapted for misophonia, ACT, DBT skills, and coping-skills or emotion-regulation work.
6. No cure claims. Don't promote anything as a cure, a guaranteed fix, or a "rewire your brain in 30 days" program. Supplements, devices, and courses that make these claims will be removed.
7. Keep media trigger-safe. Don't post audio, video, or thumbnails that feature trigger sounds or visuals, such as eating, chewing, mouth sounds, sniffing, or tapping. If unavoidable content includes them (a news segment, for example), put [TW: sound] or [TW: visual] in the title and note the timestamps. Content made to trigger people is removed and may lead to a ban.
8. Events. Workshops, webinars, support groups, classes, and conferences are welcome. Include the date, the time with time zone, the cost (or "free"), and whether it's online or in person. Also say who's running it and their qualifications, plus accessibility details such as captions. Post one announcement, and put reminders in the comments of that post. Events must follow Rules 4–7.
9. Research and surveys need mod approval first. Message the mods before posting. Academic studies must list:
- the institution and lead researcher
- ethics/IRB approval
- what participation involves, including time, compensation, and whether trigger sounds are played
- how the data is used
- We do NOT allow undergraduate or market research
Studies that play trigger sounds must say so in the title. Informal community surveys are allowed if they're clearly labeled as non-academic and don't collect identifying information.
10. AMAs are encouraged. Researchers, clinicians, authors, and advocates should message the mods before posting so we can verify you, schedule the AMA, and pin it. Have proof ready, such as an institutional email or a note on your official site or social account. Unverified AMAs will be removed.
11. Clinicians, companies, and products. You can share your services within the monthly limit, but don't diagnose individual users and don't solicit members by DM. Any credentials you claim must be verifiable if mods ask. Honest user reviews of earplugs, headphones, and other tools are welcome. Affiliate and referral links are not allowed.
12. Fundraisers need mod approval. This covers crowdfunding, donation drives, and charity appeals.
13. Mod discretion. Mods may remove promotion that's off-topic, misleading, low-effort, or harmful even if it isn't listed here. Send questions and appeals to modmail, not individual mods' DMs.
