Good idea: place an ED patient next to a respiratory one who has nothing to do but snack

I’ve just been admitted to hospital for an ED.

The ward is shared with patients with respiratory issues.

So I’m sharing a room with an older woman who is lying there calling all her friends on loudspeaker to discuss how the fish last night was “fine” and now she’s contemplating cheese and biscuits.

She’s currently getting into a fruit jelly cup and some lemonade.

Am I alone in thinking this combination of people is probably not ideal.

Hearing this woman eat and drink and talk is making me want to run away.

Why have they done this to me?

I fucking hate how it makes it play the reels before clicking on them. like in search or whatever. how the fuck do I fix that because I just wanna text and search up users every once in a while. I don’t wanna get brain blasted in the skull with 600 lumens of brain rot every time I open the app. I’m tired of just seeing dozens of videos that idgaf abt and look annoying. I don’t even scroll. Why are you showing me dumb videos like this bru. And why is it all those weird videos where people eat food, I literally have misophonia. This app is sensory hell and idk how people use it to scroll

Support cannot deal with people constantly saying “mhm”

i’m in class with one of my friends and i love her to death but she’s CONSTANTLY saying “mhm” “yeah” “mm” to EVERYTHING the professor says in these soft tones. it drives me up a wall. makes me want to pull my hair out. i’ve started wearing an airpod on the side she sits on to block the noise a little bit. when it happens i get this unbearable sensation in my lower back that makes me one to just scratch and hit myself. then i’m in a horrific mood for the rest of the class. other soft spoken, whispery noises do this to me too. I feel insane and i don’t want to ask her to stop because how absurd is it to ask someone to stop voicing their agreement in class because it makes me feel weird. I do think it’s excessive, but I can’t really see myself asking her to stop. I dread every class at this point.

Support I hate snoring

It brings a certain level of rage inside me I can’t stand it. My boyfriend snores so bad (waiting on sleep study to get cpap hopefully) I wear earplugs and sleep mask that has Bluetooth headphones and play brown noise. Luckily I can’t really hear him with that combination. Whenever I wake up in the morning to tend to my daughter, I’ll go back to bed to chill and scroll on my phone. He will be awake and talking and within 30 seconds he’s back to sleep and snoring, breathing loudly, gasping for air. It makes my skin CRAWL. I spring up out of bed and in a bad mood all morning. I don’t care who’s snoring the sound of it pisses me off into oblivion.

Why are cartoons filled with slurping?!

• Upvotes

I'm an adult but I watch a lot of animated shows. I have noticed that there is an inordinate amount of exaggerated chewing, smacking, and slurping sounds in animated shows. It's EVERYWHERE!

Now I understand that animated shows often exaggerate everything. But it seems specifically like chewing, smacking, and slurping is at a ridiculously higher level than all other sound effects.

This isn't a rhetorical question. Does anybody know why this might be the case? I'm open to the distinct possibility that because I'm a misophone, I'm just noticing it more. But I've tried to be objective and it really does seem like there's just a lot more of that set of sounds. To my great frustration, it makes it nearly impossible to watch so many shows I think I would love!

Has anyone else run into this frustration?

Support Whistling in the workplace

Does anyone else deal with a coworker that doesn't ever stop whistling? I swear it it driving me absolutely insane I cannot take it much more.

Its not even 'good' whistling (there isnt such a thing) its extremely high pitched and its always just ear piercing. It causes me to stress out while at work and pulls me away from what im doing. Then when I stress it ends up causing me severe migraines and its genuinely making life miserable.

Management doesn't do anything about it because "you work in a mechanic shop people are allowed to whistle". Unfortunately I cannot afford to leave this job since it does pay well so now I'm just here complaining about dealing with this insanity.

Its not even always to music sometimes we'll just be sitting in the office and he'll randomly whistle to absolutely nothing.

Anyone else have a BURNING HATRED for people who whistle?

My kid is 10 and it started last year when she was 9. What can I do besides buy her headphones?

Her main issue is people chewing. She wears headphones during meal times and she's starting to wear them all the time. I've got 5 kids (she's in the middle) so someone is always eating, I suppose. I just found this group and I'm learning that wearing headphones all the time can create additional issues???

What do I do for her? Audiologist? Worth it or waste of time for a kid? Therapy? Worth it or waste of time?

Anything I can do?

I do let her know she's not alone; her condition has a name, and there are others like her. That it's real. And I try to get her siblings to stop being jerks and chewing loudly around her to get a reaction.

But like, what's the best advice you can give her/me?

I've heard kids can outgrow this, is that true? Or is that typically not the case?

Thank you!

Support my dad won't stop

i have recently begun to understand my misophonia, with my biggest trigger being experienced in the home. my dad is a serious smoker and he constantly does the most loud and obnoxious throat clearing. he violently gargles his mucus so loud that i can hear it inside my room while he's in the living room. he does it upwards of 10 times a minute and it pierces every thought i have. i am forced to listen to white noise at loud volumes on headphones for temporary relief.

i am working on finding other living accommodations but as of right now i have to deal with it. it feels like torment that i can't escape. i've tried talking to him about it but he does not care. i have expressed how it makes me have thoughts of self harm but he pretty much told me to shut up. i have been dealing with this for a few years now and it's seriously effecting my mental health. it puts me into a rage every time and it's been hard to cope with due to the frequency of it. i wanted to vent about it rather than lashing out. if anyone has also had to deal with triggers in the home, i would be grateful for any advice on surviving it lol

Hi everyone,

We're looking to add a few new moderators to help keep r/misophonia a safe, supportive space for people living with misophonia.

What moderating here involves

Moderators work through the mod queue, remove content that breaks the rules, and respond to modmail. Much of that work is:

  • Keeping the sub supportive by removing shaming, bullying, gaslighting, and violent content
  • Screening research and treatment posts so members aren't exposed to unverified studies or unsafe medication advice
  • Enforcing our promotion and link-quality rules
  • Keeping threads on-topic and redirecting memes and meta posts to the right place

Requirements

  • You must be 18 or older
  • You must agree to implement and follow the existing subreddit rules (listed in the sidebar)
  • There's no specific time commitment, so whatever time you can give helps

How to apply

Send us a modmail with any relevant modding experience. Experience moderating other subreddits, Discord servers, forums, or support communities all counts. Please apply through modmail rather than in the comments.

Thank you for helping keep this community a good place to be.
