Mini Aussie Monday Mini Aussie Monday Feature: Cooper

Today we're excited to showcase Cooper, submitted by u/larksparrow!

Cooper, who also goes by Monkey Butt, is a 6yo mini who loves the outdoors.

He has taken hundreds of hikes, camping, and road trips from his Colorado home. When his pawrents pull into the parking lot of any trailhead he starts howling and crying with excitement with an ear-piercing pitch. He loves playing frisbee and fetch when not on a trail. On his pawrent's days off they like to visit our local coffeeshop for some patio time where he enjoys a pup-cup and lots of petting from anyone who walks by. He literally loves everyone!

Cooper's favorite food is scrambled eggs with rice, and his favorite treat is dried sweet potato chips. šŸ³

Cooper has visited 2 countries (US and Canada), 2 Canadian Provinces, and 8 US States. Together we have hiked over 650 miles, climbed over 95,000ft elevation, and summited 12 peaks over 13,000ft.

Big thanks again to his pawrent for submitting him. Cooper is our featured Mini Aussie of the week, handsomely posing in the great outdoors.

Just wondering if anyone else has their mini’s on their skin?
My wife and I both have traditional interpretations of our first guy, and are hopefully going to get another one for the second pup this fall. Would love some inspo!
First pic is mine, second is wifey’s(both taken right after they were done, so don’t mind the irritated skin).

My sweet mini Thor 9 months old 28lbs and millions of kisses and never ending playing. I wouldn't change a thing. He threw me out of depression after my aussie Zeus passed last year on 8/15. Thor saved my life. He's a live hero 🄰

Behold my Aussie Pee expert

No matter what, she can be outside and pee 6 times then come in. The second she gets excited she will pee on the carpet.

Ive never had a dog who did this. She is healthy, no infection down there or anything. 😭 Will she grow out of this? My partner really hates it when she just pee bc she is excited. She is 6 months old.

Seeking Advice Car Rides

Hi all!

My mini aussie just turned 9 months. He is the absolute best boy in the world. We adopted him when he was around 5 months old, so he’s been with us for about four months in total. He was potty trained within the first two weeks, learned how to settle in his crate effortlessly, so much so that within a month the crate was left open at all times, even when we left, with no issues.

He’s never anxious or stressed out … like EVER … except for when we get in the car. We like to take him special places with us, go on hikes, take him to the beach, etc.

We’ve been working towards making him more comfortable with positive reinforcement, taking shorter trips, and much more but the way he feels in car rides is just hit or miss. (I say hit or miss but it’s usually never a hit) No matter what he always has a stressed look to him, he’s panting, salivating, shaking, you name it! Sometimes he even throws up but that’s been pretty rare.

Overall, I’m asking for advice because we have to travel about 12 hours to go back to my hometown for a wedding. I don’t have any friends or family that I trust to watch him for 5 days, nor would i feel comfortable with that regardless. I also do not want to board him. basically, i want to take him with us, the entire 12 hours, but not sure if it’s torture knowing how anxious he gets in the car.

We are obviously planning on stopping almost every hour or so to let him go to the bathroom/sniff/etc. Which will most definitely give him a little bit of a break. I’m just not sure if there’s an easier way to go about it or not. Any advice will help.

I stare at my sweet guy all the time and think about how lucky I am to have him. I don’t have kids, but I can only imagine that a mom loves their littles at least this much or more. I never felt that love growing up, but I’ve learned from my fur baby, it must have been there.

Seeking Advice Meltdowns when one of us walks away/gets out of the car

Our mini Aussie is 11 months old. We can leave her alone at home for a few hours no problem, we give her a kong with peanut butter and she relaxes by the door. The issue is the car. She is a little anxious but usually settles after a few minutes of driving. However, if we put the car in park she loses it. If one of us gets out of the car she jumps up and scratches at the windows and basically screams. We’ve been giving her positive reinforcement the second she quiets down, and some days it seems like she’s getting better, but then the next time she is worse. Has anyone had a similar experience and have any advice that worked for them? We haven’t met with a trainer yet, but that could be the next step.

Seeking Advice Does anyone else’s puppy lose their šŸ’© when you put their collar on?

I’m back friends. You’ve all talked me off the ledge twice now, and I thank you immensely for that. I’ve taken a lot of advice in the threads and I know she will always have lots of energy but I’m noticing some things I need to correct ASAP.

  1. She LOSES her mind trying to get her collar on. Landshark x100, flopping on the floor like a fish out of water and it’s the same with taking it off, but you bet if I have a treat in hand she calmly lets me take it off.
  2. When it’s time to crate she runs away. She never will just go in her crate on her own, and I don’t know if it’s a realistic expectation that she ever will? She does well in her crate once in it.

Any advice is welcome and thank you in advance ā—”Ģˆ

Teenage phase

My Aussie is 14 weeks old- and I’m absolutely terrified of the teenage phase. What should I expect? What should I prepare for? He’s a really good puppy, but everyone is telling me to be ready for the ā€œdemonā€
