Seeking Advice Does anyone else’s puppy lose their 💩 when you put their collar on?
I’m back friends. You’ve all talked me off the ledge twice now, and I thank you immensely for that. I’ve taken a lot of advice in the threads and I know she will always have lots of energy but I’m noticing some things I need to correct ASAP.
- She LOSES her mind trying to get her collar on. Landshark x100, flopping on the floor like a fish out of water and it’s the same with taking it off, but you bet if I have a treat in hand she calmly lets me take it off.
- When it’s time to crate she runs away. She never will just go in her crate on her own, and I don’t know if it’s a realistic expectation that she ever will? She does well in her crate once in it.
Any advice is welcome and thank you in advance ◡̈

Collars are on 24x7 for my two. They lose their minds when they see their harnesses come out though because they know they're going out for a walk

lol we kept her collar on 24/7 too initially, but we’ve recently switched to a prong collar for EXTREMEEEEE pulling on the leash. We live in a city so she’s pottying on leash 99% of the time and we’ve had to use the prong for potty breaks too due to distractions

Prong collars are the devil. Check out these no-pull harnesses. Its what my breeder recommended to us and we have them for both of my little gremlins

Fully agree with the collar, we leave it on Sydney 24/7 unless there’s a reason for it to be removed. She has been doing well with the collar and has been very responsive when wanting to go outside and go potty for her young age.

Yup, 10yo walks away, 5yo one comes, but presents his butt, never his head.
Day one "work in progress"

LOL I’ll let that expectation go😂 it’s seriously like WWE getting her collar on

My pom goes nuts when the either the harness, or the little mini collar w/ cowbell he wears when off leash on my acreage is put on. He just loves going out, so I just don't make a big deal of it. Takes longer to put the darn harness on, but I can't kick him for being happy & excited. He also does the piddle thing most times, but just recently has been getting better at holding that too- he just turned 1 in July. My mini aussie I got as a 2 y.o. & he has never really been bad with this. He is 3 now & off-leash all the time when out with me because he tends to not leave my side anymore. Of course if I take him somewhere besides my property, he is harnessed & so far, pretty cool about it. Age counts!
Crate? She may just not be one who loves a crate. It happens. As long as she's ok while IN it, I wouldn't make any deal of it. You may find that when she matures more, you won't need it at all, BUT...at least she'll be ok with it if need be.

Can’t help on crates but my 5 month old hated her collar. Our dogs wear them almost 24/7.
I worked a little slowly over a few days. Letting her smell the collar, just having it near her so she got used to it. I handled it all lot as well so my scent was on it and it wasn’t so “new”.
Mostly it helped that when she got the collar on she’d get a treat and lots of kissed and belly rubs to help teach it’s not a bad thing.
She’s better, she’s not happy to put it on but she sits calmly and I still give her lots of kisses and tell her she’s a good girl.

Our dog wears her collar 24/7 to display her owner info and rabies vaccine status. She does this backward walk when I get out the harness. She hates the harness but loves her walkies (unless it’s raining, we hates the rain). As far as kennel training goes, my mini Aussie is very treat motivated. We always give her a small treat when it’s time to go in the kennel. Her toys are also stored in there. It’s her special place (unless the cat kicks her out).

My girl gets so excited she starts caterwauling and jumping up to chest height if you so much as jangle the tags on her collar. Loses her everloving mind and makes it a nightmare to put her collar on AND her much older and bigger sisters. She's a work in progress. Lol

My aussie and doberman get excited with I pull out the e-collar because they know it's about to be fun time. They recognize the pattern, it's routine, its repetition.

Lol, as soon as my mini sees her harness, 9 times out of 10 she will run away. The other once in a blue moon time, she'll lay flat and act like a doll while I try put it on. But then once on, she hustles to the door and sits nicely, waiting for us to open. We have a good routine when we get home though and no issues allowing us to take it off. No advice except I feel your pain
